desktop was hijacked with a bright red screen that said "Your privacy is in danger" along with an insertion in top tool bar of 4 buttons that would fix this "danger. Have managed to get rid off fradulent tool bar and bright red screen. Now my desktop is all white and am not able to create any files there. Have run a number of scanners but the white screen still there. Running Windows XP with updates.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI recently had some spyware that took over my desktop. Everytime I would right click on my desktop it would bring up the options as if it was right clicking on a document in Internet explorer. So I went to view source and discovered that it was linking to C:windowsdesktop.html. I went and deleted that file. My desktop then went to a white screen that shifted to different shades of white. So I figured that some spyware program is still trying to reference that file. I dug through my registry via regedit and searched for anything that may be linking to that same C:windowsdesktop.html and I found one "PersistMoniker" and deleted the entry. Now my desktop has a sidebar, just like the ones if you were to open My Computer and on the left side of the window it has the System Tasks/Other Places/Details and their drop downs. Exactly the same thing with the exception that its now for my desktop and those options are Folder Tasks/Other Places/Details. I've taken a screenshot but have no web to upload the image too. If this is needed I can email it to whomever decides to help me Other things to note would be that if I go to Start -> Run... and type in explorer. It will just boot me back to the desktop after a flash of all my windows disappearing. Instead of launching windows explorer. There is an error message but it appears when I shut down the computer and it flashes so quickly that i cannot read it. The computer shuts down normally.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI forgot to turn my computer off last night at work and I came back to it this morning with a blue screen that says "Spyware Infection", so I ran Ad-aware and Microsoft Antispyware and between the both of them they caught lots of spyware. I've deleted them but the blue screen is still there. Another thing, when I click on IE shortcut I'm brought to a blue screen telling me that "my information is vulnerable..." and I have three links at the bottom of the screen and they all take me to the same website: spysheriff.com. I found a txt document in my local folder with spysheriff's site on it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am running windows xp pro edition. When I switch on my pc it loads the icons, then for a split second my desktop background flashes and then turnes blue. This is also repeated when I shut down the puter. When I right click, and click on properties, I then click on desktop and you can only select a color as your background? The browse button is frozen, the scroll bar is frozen as well. They are a tanish color and unclickable. Can someone please help me change my background back to an image? I have been using "Webshots desktop" for years and have never had any problems.

I think I've got most of it weeded out, but I can't get my desktop to return to normal. It's always white. The wallpaper tries to load from time to time, but it always goes white. there is an Internet Explorer window kinda overlayed into the top left corner that I cannot close.

He could do nothing except reboot it using the power button but on rebooting, there was a 'no signal' message on a black screen. We have checked the monitor connections (the monitor works when connected to his second computer) and even replaced the video card but of course this made no difference (no signal) We've taken out the HD and installed it on his second system. I tried to create a shortcut of an email internet link onto my desktop and all I got was a small rectangular white box. Try as I might, I could not remove it. The box is adjustable and can be made to cover the entire desktop area behind the icons but over the current desktop theme. In my attempts to delete it I have ended up with a white box about an inch wide from the top to the bottom on the left side of the screen. I cannot reduce the size any further but as I said, I can drag the right margin all the way across the entire screen.

Trying to help a friend of mine. He had added a shortcut to his desktop, says was active shortcut, ever since then has not been able to change desktop, its white (none) . I went to the sreen to change it and selected the one he wanted . I then closed the system and rebooted, when it first comes up,the background is correct, but when loads icons it reverts to a white background.

Couple this with frequent headaches, sometimes daily. This obviously isnt helped by the fact that my hobby and career are both in IT. I have tried every possible solution to alleviate the headaches. I am running Windows XP, and McAfee and Ad-Aware say I have no viruses. In trying to get rid of this box I have discovered that I can expand and reduce the size of the box from the lower right hand corner, and if I drag a web page shortcut icon from my desktop over the box, the web page is displayed. When a web page is being displayed inside the box there are scroll bars on the right and bottom sides to scroll around the web page. If I click on a hyperlink within the box, my default web browser is opened to the link. At first I was using IE, and then I switched to Firefox, and it made no difference. Periodically, the web page being displayed inside the box will disapear, along with the scrolling bars, leaving behind a white box.
When there is a web page being displayed in the box I can right click on the box and I get a menu with the following options: Back, Forward, Save Background as, Set Background, Copy Background, Set as Desktop Item, Select All, Paste, Create Shortcut, Ad to Favorites, View Source, Print, Refresh, Export to Microsoft Excel, Print, Properties. Some of these items are grayed out. If I select properties, there is a "General" tab with the name of the web page, Protocol Info, Type, Connection, Address, Size, Created, Modified. There is a Certificates button at the bottom in addition to OK and Cancel buttons.

After running a program called System Mechanic from Iolo technologies I discovered my computer had stopped working properly and kept telling me that files essential to the smooth running of windows had been changed. I did a system restore operation and almost everything went back to normal. The only exception is my desktop icons, and icons on the quick lanch bar. They're appearing inside white squares and not against the desktop wallpaper like they should almost as if the wallpaper has not loaded properly under the

I have a hp pavillion dv4000 i bought 2 1/2 years ago and I ran a program the other day called window washer by webroot (spysweeper program) I checked boxes to clean everything and checked a box saying i wanted it cleaned i think 24 times which is what they claim the fbi uses a Guttman style cleaner. I let it run over night and the next day I got an error message System could not log you on. Make sure your Username and Domain are correct then type password again.
I tried everything including putting the recovery cd in the hp and then i put the xp disk and it went through a period where it looked like it was reinstalling and repairing it then it got all the way to the end
and the screen popped up again. The mouse in frozen in the middle of the screen (the arrow)and the blinky straight line where you would type isn't moving even if i had a username and password to type I obviously don't normally handle these things but I am forced to this minute and i could REALLY use some help.

View 6 Replies View Relatedi recently opened a file that my firewall ( ZoneAlarm ) told me it wants to use explorer.exe thinking thats normal because i would be asked to browse i allowed it. When i did that my pc froze. I couldnt click anything but the i could kepp moving the mouse. I could only open the ctrl+alt+delete but couldnt click anything the same applies to the start menu by pressing the start menu button on my keyboard. After that my pc froze from time to time when its doing somethng that requires it to think lol i know funny sentence but what i mean is for exemple when i click the button to show the hidden files or to hide them it froze. Or opening a program some times.... My guess is that the explorer.exe is damaged and reinstalling it would fix the problem. I scanned with norton and webrout spy sweeper 0 infections. I want a solution that doesnt lose me my updates.

Ok the problem is constant from start up to shutdown and has been occurring now for about 2 weeks.At first i thought it was a virus so i cleaned my computer but it is still occurring.The problem is this, every now and then my screen will go completely white, its just a display thing cause it happened when i was working while listening to music. it can last anywhere to just 1 sec to 5 minutes. Its constant all the way through but it gets worse if i am watching a dvd or playing a game. What is this problem and how can i fix it? i tried system restore but that didn't work.i think it may be the software i installed at the time but i can't find it in the add or remove programs list to uninstall it.
