So I got home from work and my computer was frozen. On the screen there were weird program windows title "instructions" and something else. Anyway I rebooted my computer and it said that System 32 was deleted. I had to reinstall windows. Can someone tell me how this happened?

Lately (started 2 weeks ago), while in the midst of doing a search or while viewing an internet news video, a BOX POPS UP and asks me if I want to WORK OFFLINE and I get automatically booted to WORKING OFFLINE. I know this is someone told me to CLICK ON "FILE" and there it is, a checkmark in front of WORK OFFLINE.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently used CDBurnerXP Pro 3 to write an iso image on the HDD. The progress bar jumped to something like 27% and was apparently frozen.Thinking something was wrong, I tried to terminate the program by ctrl+alt+del and the window opened up with the status message "not responding". But the "end task" refused to terminate the CDBurnerXP...The HDD lamp was glowing. The final observation was that the iso image was successfully written.I have repeated the process and my observation on 2 different computers is the same - the progress window jumps to some %age completed and freezes, CDBurnerXP is writing the image to the HDD, but the status window shows the program "not responding".

Have managed to get rid off fradulent tool bar and bright red screen. Now my desktop is all white and am not able to create any files there. Have run a number of scanners but the white screen still there. Running Windows XP with updates.

Not only that but it randomly reboots itself even when not being used. Also, when i go to delete files now, the file does NOT go into the recycle bin. I looked at the settings and there is no check mark next to the "do not move files into recycle bin". My BF said he had been downloading things so I figured maybe its a virus or something. I ran Nortons... nothing. Ran AVG... nothing. A friend told me it sounded like spyware so he told me to run Adaware & Spybot. Did that, found a ton of stuff. But when i retarted the pc, it wanted to start in "safe mode". I noticed that most of these pop ups are (search miracle ??) Found info that its a trojan, but i dont know. . I dont know what to do, totally computer illiterate.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI am in big trouble. I have an hp pavilion a206x- and oldie. The kids gunked it up and it was so slow and running out of memory. Add/remove programs did not help. I decided to use the recovery disks and start with a clean slate. I backed up what we needed on cds and did a full recovery after doing the ctrl backspace option 6 to erase the hard drive. (oh, btw, it is XP) After all six disks, it freezes. I get to the screen that says "Recovery in progress." with Finalizing recovery highlighted in red on the left. Chatted with HP tech and there are no other recovery disks available because it is so old. I don't want to put any money into it. She says repair or retail OS purchase only options.

Ive tried contacting the manufacturer but they cant help because my warranty is up. Any suggestions would be greatful.

My kids computer was frozen and I forced a reboot by pressing the restart button expecting the error message about problem shutting down as it scanned the disk for errors.What happened instead was it continually gets partially booted taking me to the boot up options; safe mode, normal start up.I first chose safe mode and the computer started to reboot from the beginning, then normal mode-same thing, last good configuration.Every option I pick, the computer fails to completely reboot and continuously restarts with no intervention of my own.If I could get it to boot on any mode, I may be able to find the problem.

The cursor will at times freeze up if a couple of screens are open and I don't move it for a minute or 2. Sometimes when the screen saver activates I can't do anything cause its frozen.

I decided to actually run windows updates for once, and I did, it said it was upgrading to windows XP SP3. But then after a while it became extremely slow and I couldn't run anything in the background, the bar was half way through so I left the computer on over night, to find in the morning that the updates were still not finished and the bar was still halfway. The updates were still happening though as different file names like "installing blahblah.dll" were coming up every 10 or so seconds. It's been updating for about 12 hours now and the computers basically frozen and is so slow I can't do anything. I don't want to shut down my computer as I know that's a bad thing to do during windows service pack updates, but what else can I do? This SP update has been going on all night and the bar hasn't moved at all. Should I just shut down/restart the computer and let it restore on startup? It did say at the beginning of the updates that it was backing up my files, and if it didn't I could do system restore. OR, should I just leave my computer on untill it finishes?

It was working fine then all of a sudden nothing it was frozen on blue screen i tried to restart then reboot and i tired to restore but nothing would work. I worked on it for 4 days straight until i got so mad i went to best buy and got a new computer but now i would like to use old one for kids to play on but i tried to reinstall from the disk that came with computer which it says that it did. I lost all my info on computer but i thought ok now i can get it going but it is so slow. I have not got it networked to connect to internet but i hate to spend money on stuff to do it if i cant figure out what is making it so slow.

I have removed all fans and cleaned them, remove battery and replaced after 30 minutes, used a different battery, unplugged all cables. After trying each one, I plugged the computer in again and still activity light stays on. The moniter is black. When I turn it off and on it shows "no signal" on the screen. I also replaced the ram with two 2Gs. What do I do to stop whatever activity is going on?

After several editing the Movie Make became slow and then stopped responding. So I'd like to restore the Movie Maker but it comes with Service Pack 2. Is there anyway the Movie Maker program alone may be deleted and reinstalled without deleting and reinstalling whole SP2 package?

I deleted the registry keys and such;manuelling removing it because the Explorer.exe would shut down every time I tried to do it the old fasion way Wink So, I was going through, and I accidentally deleted the Uninstall registry key Which has led all the installed progs to not show up in the Add/Remove Programs gui that's in Control Panel.And so, I am wondering if I have to wait until tommorow to do this, when I have the windows cd. Or if I'm able to just do some other recovery.I restarted and held down F8, and did the "Last known good configuration" thing, but it said I had to replace hal.dll.

A website told me to run a search for programs with "backweb" in them and unistall/delete them. I deleted one program (application?) from the C:/ drive and now my computer is frozen. The mouse moves; however, I am unable to open anything including the recycle bin so that I can put the program back on the computer. I have tried to restart and it still happens.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been dealing with Java problems.I downloaded, deleted and redownloaded the Java program from Sun Microsystems or something like that and I know you don't speak highly of Wild Tangent as one time you had me delete it from a highjack list with another issue. Anyway, when I try to download the Java from Wild Tangent (MS) and install it this is the error that I get, "The Microsoft Virtual Machine you are attempting to install is a protected system component and can only be updated with a later release of the operating system or service pack." When I click OK, it says that the Installation is complete but windows doesn't detect any Java. Pogo will not work with either of the Javas that I have tried to download and I'm understanding from this error that this is the reason.

In control panel their is separate entry for quick time which cannot be deleted. tried to remove it by deleting all the entry pertaining to quick time from registry, but it simply refuses to go.
I deleted my microsoft word program and can't retrieve it. I tried restoring the computer to an earlier time but that didn't work either. Whenever I try to access the word program I get a prompt that tells me to install the disk. The last month I have been going through spyware/malware cleaners, used everyone one of them including Hijack This. The problem does not seem to be spyware.Now the problem all started when I clicked on some website when I was searching for an old obscure foreign band, at that moment my browser turned into a completely different style for a second.
