Switched my machine an this morning and heard 4 or 5 mousec licks.over the speakers music then started to play in background without showing the IE browser.It seems somehow that IEXPLORER.exe is launching itself? Tried a few spywares, sophos and Zonealarm running.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently found out through my last windows upgrade that I might be using a counterfeit copy of windows. I wasn't aware of this like I'm sure many, so I read where I could purchase for 149.00 a windows upgrade tool and make my windows XP GENUINE. On line I purchased the upgrade tool. I gave microsoft 149.00 and two days later an email came with product key and took me to a sight to run software to check to see if windows was intact. It ran flawlessly and checked my windows xp and said it was complete. Congraltions menu. After a reboot a message came up that I must activate this windows program. I tried to activate it by online, following instructions, but error said my product key wasn't valid. I then called and spoke with three different activation techs that were unable to help and said I needed the CD.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy USB ports have suddenly stopped working fully. Previously working devices continue to work correctly but I cannot connect new ones. When I try, Windows recognises the new hardware and launches a wizard to find a driver but then fails to find it either locally or on the Internet. Subsequently the device is ignored when plugged in. The devices all work correctly on my other (laptop) PC.The system with problems is a Mesh desktop PC running WinXP Home SP2 with automatic updates enabled. My old Olympus digital camera, HP printer and 256MB flash drive still work fine however my new Panasonic digital camera, 2GB flash drive and LG mobile phone do not work on the Mesh but are fine on my Toshiba laptop.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAt boot up everything seems ok, the nice WinXP jingle plays and all is right with the world. At this point I can play MP3s, video files, and games and the sound works ok. Now occasionally (more often than not) the screen does a very strange refresh about 2 to 3 minutes of the computer being booted. Any open widows and the task bar reverts to Windows 98 look (grey with the old fasioned functionality boxes at the top right of an open window) then as quicky as it changes it all changes back again (say less than half a second) to WinXP look.
After this point only system sounds will play. Now if a programme already has access to the sound device then it works until it is shut down. Anything that tries to access the sound device after this fails to (itunes says there is an audio config error, WMP says that another programme has access to the sound device). I guess whatever that refresh thingy is it is stopping any other programme accessing the driver or preventing the driver to be released to other programmes.
When I insert an audio CD into my CD ROM drive it plays automatically and then I do not know which media player plays the CD. I have WMP,iTunes,GoldWave,Realplayer and quick Time in my Entertainment folder.Task manager does not indicate as to which application or process is being used for audio.I would like to know which program/application is in use at the time the CD is playing. Besides I do not want to disable the autoplay of the CD.

I think it was a virus my smaler brother installed but since my father also uses this computer for his work, I cannot ask him to format and reinstall Can I find out what program launches Iexplorer.exe
View 5 Replies View Relatedfor quite awhile now both my computers but they seem to work pretty good although alittle slow. but when you go to shut them down, both of them a box comes up and says ending program where you can wait for it to end the program or you can click on end now. well it doesn't matter which you do most of the time the computer won't shut down. it just keeps going back to the end program box. It is always this program--iexplore.exe always that one. One time I looked into the task manager and it had like 5 or 6 of the iexplore.exe in the application part. anyway it is getting quite annoying. I ran asquared when this was happening and it caught what it said was a trojan (didn't write it down) I deleted it and it seemed to work for awhile. But now it is back to the same ole thing. Can someone enlighten me on what might be wrong? It is on both of my computers.

I run XP SP3 and Microsoft has my upgrades now recommending to download number 7. What is your feelings toward this? I have always felt that this forum, "that has gotten me out of so much trouble" is voices that I trust more than just the talking heads. Your all "hands on guys" with a lot of experience in working with the meat of the matter. Would you convert or stay with 6? Appreciate your opinions.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have win xp sp2 fully update with all drivers etc upto date. WMP11 was working fine and I can't figure what has caused the issue.
All video files play, but only the audio, the screen remains blank. This applies to local files or steaming from places such as mlb.tv etc.
I have tried removing WMP11, and 10 but nothing allows media files to play. No other software would work either. I finally got VLC to work by selecting OpenGL mode, but that would work in no other mode either.
I have checked I have all codecs, tried removing all and re adding, but nothing seems to work.
I have an XP Home HP computer that is offnet and is used exclusivley with a TV as a photo viewer and music player. All work fine in either of 2 drives (Lite On and Samsung). Neither will play the audio to DVDs.
View 5 Replies View Relatedwhen looking at a webpage with an embedded avi, the avi d/l's, then only sound plays.When I attempt to view the file in the temp internet files folder, it only plays sound, and properties (in media player) says audio file. When I copy the same file to another folder (somewhere outside temp int folder) and play the file, it plays the audio and video like it should (and properties in media player says audio video).What gives? I've checked in the browser settings and its set to play videos on webpages, and I've tried checking play by extension (as opposed to content) as well. The media player is only 9 (yes, I'll upgrade), but I know that's not the problem because I've looked at the same site with a different computer (but not xp) and it works fine.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a PC running XP home, which completely locks up when viewing 'any' type of video online. Mostly with flash player.It plays for a few seconds then freezes. Seems to work fine as long as on text pages. Windows media player also seems to work fine. Tried loads of things - Swapped memory, graphics card, removed flash player and reinstalled. Nothing seems to stop it freezing. This happens with either IE7 or with Firefox. Have removed the ethernet adapter and replaced the drivers. When it freezes there is nothing showing in the event logs as a pointer?
View 14 Replies View RelatedWhen I go to turn off my computer or restart it, it tries to end task for the iexplorer.exe. It will say the program is not responding and the computer won't turn off or restart like I asked it to.
Also, when I open up my task manager and look in processes I see that iexplorer.exe is still running when I don't have any IE windows open at all. And the strange thing is I can't end task it and there's 2 of them.
Explorer doesn't load it just stops and when i close it i get this message.The instruction at "0x1001cd11" referenced memory at "0x1001cd11". The memory could not be "read".

Whenever I start up my computer and log in to my account, the computer is running very slow, CPU usage at 100%.I hit ctrl+alt+del to bring up task manager, processes, and see iexplorer.exe taking up all the kb. If I remember rightly, it's in the 160,000+ area.Once I end the process, the computer resumes to normal.I'm not at the PC currently, but how do I remove this thing?

When I am not connected to the internet, explorer.exe is still running. Also, at times their are multiple svchost.exe running. About 6 of them. It is not debilitating, but it is annoying. Can anyone tell me more about these three processes and possible ways to go around them?
Whenever I load a website in Opera with anything that uses flash, macromedia flash player to be exact, the screen flickers and turns hazy/fuzzy. Nothing is effected performance wise, but it's really annoying. I know Iexplorer supports the newest flash and shockwave pllayers, but are they supported in Opera? I tried downloading the newest version of the flash player, but that didn't help. I don't have this problem with internet explorer, but of course I don't want to use it...

My computer boots up fine, but when I try to access any desktop icon, or any feature from the start button, I get the message, windows explorer has encountered a problem... then I get Dr Watson has encountered a problem, then the only thing I can do is reboot. The strange thing is, that I can access AOL by clicking on the icon in the taskbar, also Mcafee and others. The only things that work are the taskbar icons. I ran all the appropriate virus checks, spy checks, with no problem.

View 14 Replies View RelatedThe my computer window instantly opens with all the correct icons displayed on the lest (view system information add remove programs change a setting...) but it shows no drives and I cannot click on anything. If I hit control alt delete it is reported as not responding but after about 45 seconds the rest of the icons show up. I open control pannel and try to open the system folder and nothing happens. I tried running nortons system works windoctor but after the cd launches it freezes. After about 3 hours of working on it I gave up and reinstalled windows ( i did the windows repair so I didn't lose program files and such, i did not re-initialize). After re-installing everything was going fine until last night. The same exact thing is occuring again. Ive attempted running Ad-aware and its locking up after it finds a few files, I have no clue what its finding since its locking up. Ive tried booting in safe mode but it locks up at mup.sys. Their is also no internet connection IE or Firefox can find but when I open the network connections folder it says that I am connected. Im wondering if its a bad HDD or if I've got some delayed action virus or something. Neither seems to likely to me since if it was the HDD when i ran a HDD scan (in dos from the win repair cd) it comes across as fine and the virus would have to be a delayed action one or something since it keeps hitting almost exactly a week after the problems occur.

View 8 Replies View RelatedThis has been going on for a couple of months now.The PC would just reboot all of a sudden, usually when we pop in a CD in the drive, or log on to another user account. When we try to turn the PC on, it takes about 5-10 reboots before it goes on to the Windows logo (or whatever you call that). I'm worried that it might be a virus. I tried Trend Micro's Online scan and left it for a while only to find that the PC reboot in the middle of it, and now, I can't get the scanner to work anymore (I keep getting this error message.) Also, to be honest, we usually leave the PC on for days on end, so overheating might not be so out of the question. Aside from overheating, I just wanna know what else we have to troubleshoot for regarding this problem? Is it possible that a virus is causing it? That's all, I just need a troubleshooting checklist.
