Restart Tries End Task For The Iexplorer.exe
Sep 28, 2006
When I go to turn off my computer or restart it, it tries to end task for the iexplorer.exe. It will say the program is not responding and the computer won't turn off or restart like I asked it to.
Also, when I open up my task manager and look in processes I see that iexplorer.exe is still running when I don't have any IE windows open at all. And the strange thing is I can't end task it and there's 2 of them.

I always use firefox and yet, without me even having clicked internet explorer I see it launched twice in the processes. When I click end process it appears twice and then does not for another half an hour to forty five minutes. I think it was a virus my smaler brother installed but since my father also uses this computer for his work, I cannot ask him to format and reinstall Can I find out what program launches Iexplorer.exe

for quite awhile now both my computers but they seem to work pretty good although alittle slow. but when you go to shut them down, both of them a box comes up and says ending program where you can wait for it to end the program or you can click on end now. well it doesn't matter which you do most of the time the computer won't shut down. it just keeps going back to the end program box. It is always this program--iexplore.exe always that one. One time I looked into the task manager and it had like 5 or 6 of the iexplore.exe in the application part. anyway it is getting quite annoying. I ran asquared when this was happening and it caught what it said was a trojan (didn't write it down) I deleted it and it seemed to work for awhile. But now it is back to the same ole thing. Can someone enlighten me on what might be wrong? It is on both of my computers.

My question is that in much of my reading I feel there is a lot of negativity toward iexplorer 7. I run XP SP3 and Microsoft has my upgrades now recommending to download number 7. What is your feelings toward this? I have always felt that this forum, "that has gotten me out of so much trouble" is voices that I trust more than just the talking heads. Your all "hands on guys" with a lot of experience in working with the meat of the matter. Would you convert or stay with 6? Appreciate your opinions.

I've heard a lot of bad things about this iexplorer.exe which emulates iexplore.exe or something.Well, out family Windows XP computer now has it. Whenever I start up my computer and log in to my account, the computer is running very slow, CPU usage at 100%.I hit ctrl+alt+del to bring up task manager, processes, and see iexplorer.exe taking up all the kb. If I remember rightly, it's in the 160,000+ area.Once I end the process, the computer resumes to normal.I'm not at the PC currently, but how do I remove this thing?

When I have explorer open, iexplore.exe AND explorer.exe use up a great deal of memory.
When I am not connected to the internet, explorer.exe is still running. Also, at times their are multiple svchost.exe running. About 6 of them. It is not debilitating, but it is annoying. Can anyone tell me more about these three processes and possible ways to go around them?

Whenever I load a website in Opera with anything that uses flash, macromedia flash player to be exact, the screen flickers and turns hazy/fuzzy. Nothing is effected performance wise, but it's really annoying. I know Iexplorer supports the newest flash and shockwave pllayers, but are they supported in Opera? I tried downloading the newest version of the flash player, but that didn't help. I don't have this problem with internet explorer, but of course I don't want to use it...

I just started having this problem. My computer boots up fine, but when I try to access any desktop icon, or any feature from the start button, I get the message, windows explorer has encountered a problem... then I get Dr Watson has encountered a problem, then the only thing I can do is reboot. The strange thing is, that I can access AOL by clicking on the icon in the taskbar, also Mcafee and others. The only things that work are the taskbar icons. I ran all the appropriate virus checks, spy checks, with no problem.

All of a sudden, in the last couple of days, I find that I have to go through my Start>Turn off Computer > Restart twice in order for the computer to restart. Unfortunately, I've made a LOT of changes in the past few days (new programs, a system restore, windows registry cleanup, startup configuration changes, etc.) so I have no idea what caused this.

Using Windows XP Sp2.
I am trying to create a task using Task Scheduler, and it asks me to "set account information". I am given three boxes. One of them, marked Run as has "COMPUTERJesse" already filled in. The other two are marked Password and Confirm Password. This is odd, because I am running under an Admin account (yes, generally not smart, but I'm smarter than the average bear when it comes to computers, so I feel confident I'm not going to mess it up with downloading viruses and such
I clicked OK to get out of the "Set Account Information" box, and in the entry for my task, the Status is listed as "Could not Start", Last Result is "0x0", and Creator is "Jesse". how can I get Task Scheduler to run the task and most of all, obey my authori-tah?

I recently downloaded some media files and straight after my computer slowed down to a crawl and then would not respond. The mouse pointer remains active but i cannot click on anything succesfully. The task bar and task manager do not respond at all, i can open files saved on my desktop but cannot do anything when they're open and cannot close them again. I reset my PC a number of times but this did not solve the problem. I assume this is a virus or spyware problem but could it possibly be anything else?

You know how after you end a program using End Task in Task Manager, it asks you if you want to tell Microsoft about the problem? I was able on my other XP system to change an option somewhere so it doesn't ask me that any more. I just can't remember how I did it.

I have searched around a bit to see if others have ran into this problem, but I have had no luck so far. When I start my computer, it pops up with the standard menu it uses when an OS error has caused a restart. I can't get it too load windows using safe mode, last known good configuration, or normal mode. I never even see the windows loading screen, it restarts immediately.

For no obvious reason my NIS 2004 became corrupted and on startup I continually got a warning box saying Norton autoprotection was disabled. I could go no further. I was able to start in safe mode and completely disable NIS. I contacted Symantec, (completely useless) and after hrs on the phone had it manually uninstalled. There was one file I couldn't delete so the support person told me to download some removal tool and after that my computer was stuffed. I didn't bother attempting to reinstall NIS. It was very slow. I couldn't use many programs or the disc drive System restore or restoring the registry didn't help.
I contacted dell who's first suggestiong was to reformat the harddrive and reinstall windows. (I have winXP home) I did a windows repair which seemed. At the moment things aren't too bad. Still slow. My Computer and drop down boxes take ages to open. The services folder is slow to open. AVG scans come up with the kernel/shell/ntoskrnl changed log. I can't update windows anymore. I keep getting the "Files required to use Windows Update are no longer registered or installed" message and this just loops. The internet disconnects every 5min.

Have a hp Pavilion 4600ze. Nice laptop and running Windows XP. Have always (almost always) had the situation that if choose restart it will log out and go to black screen and not restart (I'm sure it isn't shutting down). Just sits there and only by powering down can one start back up. I recall finding something on the web to make a change so that Windows XP could be sent through restart OK.

My new computer, running XP SP2, generally works fine. However, 9 times out of 10, when I try to log off or shut down at the end of the day, nothing happens. I've trying all the different ways of shutting down I know of (Task Manager, Start Bar, etc.), but nothing has any effect. I can only turn off the computer by manually hitting the power button.
