have a weird problem, when I am logged in as me on my computer it will not let me restart, or shut down my computer..I then made a Test account with Admin privaledges and that works fine, I cab log off, restart, and or shut down.. No problem at all...But then when I log in as me, again nothing, I can switch users, but it won't let me shut down or restart
All of a sudden, in the last couple of days, I find that I have to go through my Start>Turn off Computer > Restart twice in order for the computer to restart. Unfortunately, I've made a LOT of changes in the past few days (new programs, a system restore, windows registry cleanup, startup configuration changes, etc.) so I have no idea what caused this.
I am working on a friends computer running XP PRO. When shutting down ie, clicking the Turn Off button, Windows always reboots as if Restart was selected.
I have searched around a bit to see if others have ran into this problem, but I have had no luck so far. When I start my computer, it pops up with the standard menu it uses when an OS error has caused a restart. I can't get it too load windows using safe mode, last known good configuration, or normal mode. I never even see the windows loading screen, it restarts immediately.
For no obvious reason my NIS 2004 became corrupted and on startup I continually got a warning box saying Norton autoprotection was disabled. I could go no further. I was able to start in safe mode and completely disable NIS. I contacted Symantec, (completely useless) and after hrs on the phone had it manually uninstalled. There was one file I couldn't delete so the support person told me to download some removal tool and after that my computer was stuffed. I didn't bother attempting to reinstall NIS. It was very slow. I couldn't use many programs or the disc drive System restore or restoring the registry didn't help. I contacted dell who's first suggestiong was to reformat the harddrive and reinstall windows. (I have winXP home) I did a windows repair which seemed. At the moment things aren't too bad. Still slow. My Computer and drop down boxes take ages to open. The services folder is slow to open. AVG scans come up with the kernel/shell/ntoskrnl changed log. I can't update windows anymore. I keep getting the "Files required to use Windows Update are no longer registered or installed" message and this just loops. The internet disconnects every 5min.
Have a hp Pavilion 4600ze. Nice laptop and running Windows XP. Have always (almost always) had the situation that if choose restart it will log out and go to black screen and not restart (I'm sure it isn't shutting down). Just sits there and only by powering down can one start back up. I recall finding something on the web to make a change so that Windows XP could be sent through restart OK.
I did a google and yahoo search for the error, but it only came up with one result (and it was in spanish). I think it has something to do with my registry, can anyone shed some light on the error?
My new computer, running XP SP2, generally works fine. However, 9 times out of 10, when I try to log off or shut down at the end of the day, nothing happens. I've trying all the different ways of shutting down I know of (Task Manager, Start Bar, etc.), but nothing has any effect. I can only turn off the computer by manually hitting the power button.
I restarted my PC because it I kept getting a spooling error and I couldn't print. I was also unable to save a document. Now it won't restart. It's on, but I keep getting an error message that says, "lsass.exe - System error
I had SP1 in my laptop. So, I updated to SP2 and now XP loading screen shows up and 10 seconds later it goes blank. The machine then proceeds to reboot itself. Also, safe mode does not work.
my computer restarts on its own while i m working on the internet or playing or doing any other stuff. It's quite irritating especially when i m doing something important.somebody adcvised e to turn off AUTOMATIC RESTART under STARTUP & RECOVERY in the my computer menu, which i did but it still restarts without any error.
I had a problem with my pc for a while and i can't find any solution on the i-net. My problem is that when i restart my pc, it turns off for about 3-5 seconds then delay 2-3 sec and bios starts, then the os. The question is why it shuts down when i restart my pc. I'm not overclocker, and this problem came recently.
My PC seems to run slower everyday; takes about 10 minutes just to restart it. Applications are sluggish and "surfing" the net is so slow it's easier to drag out the phone book.
The adminstrator screems comes on when ever I restart. I don't want this screen, I want my computer to go directly to the desktop as it did before. Does anyone know how to remove this prompt? I also recently added my dell lapton (Win M.E.) to my router to share internet, & the adminstrator screen comes on the laptop too. my son uses that one, it its annoyong to have to use a password.
When I go to turn off my computer or restart it, it tries to end task for the iexplorer.exe. It will say the program is not responding and the computer won't turn off or restart like I asked it to.
Also, when I open up my task manager and look in processes I see that iexplorer.exe is still running when I don't have any IE windows open at all. And the strange thing is I can't end task it and there's 2 of them.
My computer is restarting constantly. I tried sunning my virus software and it doesnt even work now. i tried and online scanner but it restarted when it started scanning. Now you guys are my last hope T-T.
hey i recently got a HP compaq nx9110 for super cheap, everything was working ok untill i shut it down. i turned it back on and everything i had done was gone. i can fully install 9194223495 programs, or even delete everything i want to, when i restart, everything is the same? since i have looked all over the internet looking for solutions and have came up with nothing.i wasnt worried about it at first cause i got the thing for 100 bucks, but it just seems kind of completely useless now.
i just instaled win xp and office. everything works ok.just when i shutdown the computer it restart it self as if i just pushed the restart button. that is why i need each time to reset the computer.
My laptop (Presario 2700) froze last night. I tried to restart it several times and it completely stops at the Windows XP screen. Running the Home edition. Even in safe mode, it stops at the XP screen.
I have reviewed the following thread and discovered that the solution does not work on my WinXP Pro SP2 computer.Solved: XP shut down window Jag11 in post#3 of the thread and the original poster applied this fix which worked for the original poster, CactusJack: Control Panel>User Accounts Click Change the way users log on or off, tick the Use the Welcome screen, then click Apply Options. When I click on Start, there are only two buttons at the bottom: Log Off and Turn Off Computer, and no green icon for Restart. The green icon can be found when the Turn Off Computer icon is pressed and appears to the right of Stand by and Turn Off icons in the displayed window (Turn off computer) at the center of the screen. Is there a fix for this problem - i.e. how do I get the Restart icon back at the botton of the Start button display? Or, is this how WinXP Pro SP2 is normally, and not considered a problem?
It seem that my CD and DVD drives has gone away. I have tried to restart and restore but nothing is working.I also have been getting this message: Attention Your compter has been attacked form the Internet.Network attack Intrusion.Win.Messenger.Exploit from address 65.159.178.35.
I originally lost my windows "luna" themes and it reverted back to classic themes only at this point it would not let me change the theme without giving me a much dreaded error message for even highlighting the new theme rightclickdesktop -> properties -> appearance I can no longer change the selected theme as the box and drop down is "greyed out" and locked for some reason However, i can change the color and font and effects and advanced. Unfortunately, without an external program like Tuneup Utilities 2009 i can not change my theme back to XP's Luna theme from classic any other way of my knowledge. So i have to run that program every time i restart if i want my theme back every time i get on my pc.

Im running XP SP2 and when i restart my pc my 2nd DVD drive does not show up in "my computer" but for some reason when i shut down the PC and then fire it back up there it is this something that can be fixed or am i going to have to shut down everything as opposed to restarting from now on?
I've seen a few threads about this but they're all kind of different or whatnot. My computer (three times tonight alone!) has just randomly re-started while I'm in the middle of work. When it comes back, it tells me that the system just recovered from a series error. When I report it, I'm taken to a Microsoft page about Windows Service Pack 2 and updating my driver. I've checked and I have SP2 and when I try to update the driver it tells me they couldn't find a better match than what I'm already using.
I've checked System Information and automatic restart isn't even checked yet this has happened a lot. Like I said, three times tonight it's happened. I've run my virus scanner, I've run Ad-aware SE Personal, SpySweeper, and Spybot and anything that comes back and is quarantined or deleted hasn't fixed the problem.
My computer restarts at random times: Sometimes when I'm playing a game, sometimes when I'm surfing the web, and sometimes right when it has been previously restarted. I haven't a clue what the problem could be.
I've a problem with my laptop - i have an internet connection configured on it, it operates on Windows 2000 Pro, and the computer randomly restarts a few minutes after i am connected to the internet. Its a DSL connection and the modem is configured and all, but every time, several minutes after i am connected, the laptop just restarts. No blue screen, no nothin', just restarts.Any friendly advice? Obviously would be very appreciated - i cant fix this problem myself for over a month now.
