View 1 RepliesI recently purchased a new MOBO for my first build a few weeks ago (ASUS msn32 SLI Deluxe), and it has a few nice little utilities that make the experience of building a PC a fun one - that is, until you try to use them! lol~AI Gear is a utility that (with the interface of a gear shift) allows you to up the power of your processor, or to go into a power saving mode, if you will.
AI Booster is a very cool little OC'ing utility that makes it easier for newbie people like myself to OC within a controlled environment without the fear of screwing something up in the BIOS.Now AI Gear and AI Booster can't run at the same time. So if AI Booster is set up to launch on start up, there's a pop up that will prompt you to disable AI Gear so the booster can be used.
Ok Dum question - How does one hook up a single monitor to dual pci express video cards with a Y or is dual pci express for dual monitors?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have had two video cards in this machine (Windows XP Home SP2) in the past for a dual screen setup.Today I put in a 2nd video card again (as the one that was in there previously has gone walk-about) but I dont have the option in windows for the 2nd screen.Everything appears fine in device manager (the screen that is working is the PCI ViRAGE one), as for the GeForce - well the light on the monitor comes on but doesnt display a picture, but in display properties there is no option for the 2nd card. View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently I opened up my computer to take the dust out of it as I have before. I hadent done so in a long time so there was some caked on dust on some components. I took the RAM out an cleaned it, re-installed it. I also took my vidoe card out because the heat sink had been cloged with dust aswell. After putting everything back and restarting my computer I recived this msg before windows start up. Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEMand it followed with instruction to use the xp setup disk to repair the problem. so I threw the windows CD in, and tried to repair however the program tells me I have no hard drive installed. Which I do since my computer is 3 years old now and has been working fine. I hadent changed any bios settings, I never disconnected the hard dirve either.
Oh boy I hope that you can help me please? The only driver I need and cannot find anywhere is a Video Controller (VGA Compatible) for an old computer.
Have been given a HP Pavillion a6220a and put in my old Hard drive with XP PRO on it. Amazingly Ididn't even have to format it as once I popped it in everything just came up on the screen to my amazement! Worked well except for this annoying popup telling me 'Found new Hardware' etc. I don't have the original discs either as everything was preloaded. Have tried about 20 different things and no luck. Nothing on the HP site either. Did a Intel Chipset Utility test and I have:
945 Express Chipset Family
Graphics: Intel 82945G/GZ Express
I have downloaded the above chipset (didn't install it all though as everything else is fine and updated) and it still wasn't able to find the driver from the disc????
Thanking you in advance for your amazing knowledge with these things i'f you could post a link I would appreciate it. I am wanting to give this to my daughter as her old computer has died and currently can't play any games hardly without the driver.
for some reason the x1600 pro 512 agp will not work with my MB. Right now i have an ati 9800 pro 256 and that works. both are agp both are ati. why cant i use the x1600 pro??

When I try installing Windows XP Pro on the hard drive I can't seem to get the hard drive detected. I actually get to see it in windows XP and as well as in the BIOS, but when it gets to the installaton, It just won't see it. So my mother board is an Asus K8V SE Deluxe and my hard drive is a Western Digital Serial ATA drive 10000 RPM model number: WD360.
I tried the windows xp pro titanium 1.0 with service pack 2. Still couldn't detect it. I also tried many drivers from the internet, all of them were boot disks. That din't work either. I actually never checked the jumpers, I know there is no slave/master... on the drive but where is it suposed to be placed by default? Also I have 2 other IDE hard drives, but formatted in NTFS and my Raptor one is in Fat32, does it have anything to do with it? One also has Windows XP on it.
If I install 2 VGA cards into my XP Pro system, would I be able to have the same image (cloned) on each adapter?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have custom built many computer systems over the years, but I feel like a new comer when trying to decide what board and chip set to use on a socket 939 system. I have used ASUS extensively and will use ASUS on this system. With all of the various chipsets and motherboards available from ASUS for the socket 939 I have reached to a point of total frustration. The more I research the duller my mind becomes and am asking for some help or suggestions. The computer will be used for research, a lot of it on the web, for graphics work and for preparation of presentations. I am not a gamer, am not interested in gaming, and do not have any games on my PC.
I know that the chipset will basically determine which motherboard to use. I am considering the VIA K8T800 PRO chipset, as the ATI and NVIDA chipsets seem to be more for gamers. Again my mind is awash from researching the various chipsets available for the socket 939 from the different chipset manufacturers, ATI, NVIDA, and VIA. I would like some input on which chipset would be best for general computing? Also, I was thinking about an AGP video card, but after research I feel like AGP is becoming a dinosaur. On the other hand it seems like the only advantage of PCI Express is for gamers especially in a dual configuration. Is there any real advantage of PCI Express over AGP for general computing? Would it be advantageous to go PCI Express over AGP?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI was having problems due to SP3 but I didn't know it. I haven't seen any posts on it here but there's a big hubub over at the microsoft technet forum.) Ran a dell diagnostic and had many system memory failures come up. So, I decided to reseat my memory cards for a start. It was the first time I opened up my Dell Dimension 8400 (which I purchased about 4 years ago...I hope that gives some help as to what is in it because I really don't know besides that it has an intel pentium 4 inside). It was VERY dusty so we bought some canned air and went about cleaning it. I did use a vacuum on the inside cover but I was careful not to touch any of the componenets inside. I followed all of the instructions. We did blow air into the fan (something I didn't know wasn't good, per another site I went to later that said you shouldn't)! When we plugged everything back in it worked it's way up to a very loud whirring noise (I thought the fan was going to just break off and fly around the room!). Could be I just had never heard it run outside of the cupboard on my desk (which I now know I shouldn't have had it in)! But, the worst part is, my monitor does not come up with the computer (doesn't matter how many times I press the on/off on the monitor) and not even the lights on the keyboard light up
View 14 Replies View RelatedThis problem is kind of wierd I was having problems with my video card. When I went to boot up the screen would go black. New drivers would not fix the issue. So I bought the same videocard again, thinking that something was wrong with the old one. The new videocard still doesn't work, but in the process of trying to boot up it did something to the registry, so now if I try to boot up I see a blue screen which says there is a registry problem and it shuts the computer down. Getting frustrated I thought it was best to just reinstall XP - so I started the process, only when it got to which partition you tell it to use I got the same blue screen with a registry error. So now what? How can I reinstall XP I thought that when you were installing XP it was basically "running" off of the install disc, so how could the registry be effecting it?

I also loaded Pinnacle Studio 9 along with a patch, because it offers some nice features when capturing raw video. Shortly after, I began having a boot problem. The ASUS screen would come up as usual, but it would hang for maybe 30 to 50 seconds, and then a blank black screen would come up with the cursor blinking at the upper-left corner. Normally the ASUS screen is on for only 10 seconds or so, followed by the black screen for a few seconds, and finally the XP start-up screen.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get a computer to output the same thing to at least two seperate monitors. All I can seem to manage to do is get an extended desktop, which means I can drag things off of my screen onto the other monitor instead of displaying the same thing on both monitors which is what I am trying to do. When I uncheck the "Extend my windows desktop to this computer" on another display it disables the monitor, and when I enable the display it automatically checks it.
In this Compaq (I know Compaq sucks) computer I have 2 video cards. One onboard, and one PCI. The PCI video card has 2 outputs, the onboard has one. I have reached a point where in Windows XP I can output to 3 seperate monitors utilizing the extended desktop feature, which means I am outputting from the PCI video card and the onboard video card. In order to do this I used a microsoft work around in which you must disable hardware acceleration on each driver.

It either fails to respond or just loads the thumbnail icon and then seems to stop, although a couple of times I left it for around 30minutes and most of the 70 thumbnails had opened, so I'm not completely sure if it's stopped or if it's just so slow the computer thinks it's not working. It will open them once they are in a folder on the PC and I can transfer them using the Nikon software otherwise I'd have a useless camera!I'm also getting quite a few "Internet Explorer is not responding messages", and after downloading version 8 went back to version 7 but it's still happening.
Hey I'm running an ASUS K8V-SE Deluxe mobo w/ Windows XP Pro. When I turn on my computer it sort of hangs up on the first screen where it shows the ASUS manufacturers logo or whatever. I believe this is where it is running POST tests in the background, I've hit DELETE before to see whats happening during this and its auto detecting Primary Drives and stuff like that. Well within 20-30 seconds of that the screen goes blank and theres a one little blinking cursor for about 3 seconds then the cursor jumps down a line and blinks twice and finally the Windows XP loading screen comes up.
