Hal.dll. Missing - Having A Black Screen
Jun 6, 2006When I am starting my PC I am having a black screen with words as follows:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupted:
<Windows>system32hal.dll.
Please reinstall a copy of the above file.
Domain Box Missing On Login Screen
Feb 2, 2007I have a computer (Dell) running WIn xp pro (sp2- i think) that my work gave me when i left there, saying it wasn't worth giving back. I used it to work at home and login to thier network.the other day, i was messing around with OUtlook to change it from the work email to my personal email and did something ( i don't know what), but when i turned the computer on a couple days later, I can't login.There is only my login and password boxes, but the 3rd box which was the ?domain box, isn't there anymore. It won't accept any password.I have no restore disk, no xp disk. I have been using it for several months and its been fine. whatever i did in outlook screwed it up and did this.what do i do to be able to login again and use the computer?

NTLDR Is Missing / Blue Screen Comes Up
Dec 30, 2004I know there is already a thread out there for this error. However, it is not solving my problem. My 160 Western Digital HDD is brand new. After the very first partition, OS install, and boot the system went to the "Windows is starting set up" blue screen. It hung up there. 10 minutes later I shut off the system and tried to boot from the HDD. This yielded the NTLDR error. Repartitioning with XP and reinstalling the OS ON A DIFFERENT COMPUTER worked. Hooking it up to my computer and booting from the HHD resulted in an "Operating system is missing error". Re-booting from the XP CD took me to the "Windows is starting set up" blue screen. a few seconds later the screen went blank. No windows start up screen, nothing I Can't get to the recovery console.

I restarted and when Windows loaded the taskbar and the desktop icons were missing. It's been like this all day. I've done System Restores and uninstalled recent things that I've installed.

though I immediately imported my latest registry backup the computer froze. This is the only screen I can get, other than setup for bios - which can still see the hard drive and installed peripherals. Don't have a floppy drive,
although I'll be getting one soon, in order to try a boot to that.
No Product Key- After Reinstall XP With Black Screen With NTLDR Missing
Feb 22, 2008my friends pc needs a re-install of Windows XP, i did it. BUT the computer casing doesn't have his product key for it on a sticker like most do i can't get into windows i get the usual loading black screen with NTLDR Missing press Ctrl+alt+del to restart.... so i can't get into xp to use magical jelly beans 'keyfinder' to get the last product key used on his computer.... i don't wanna use my product key incase it screws up... i don't wanna un-install windows on his computer as i won't be able to re-install it without the product key.

Feb 25, 2006when I went to log onto my pc, after turning on the screen, it remained blank in a stand-by sort of screen. I had left it on the previous evening while running basic Windows Disk-cleaner. So, I couldn't get the PC to respond, and rebooted it. Upon rebooting, I recieved an error message saying that the file "system32c_1252" was missing or corrupt. I tried booting off of the original system setup cd, and repairing the installation, but it didn't work and I recieved another error message stating that "system322052" was missing or corrupt. After that, I managed to get access Dos console and ran "CHKDSK" and "FIXBOOT." Fixboot completed successfully, while chkdsk first hung at 50% and then, when I tried again, completed with unfixable errors. I exited and got back to the original bootup screen, where upon I got the same message as before, only this time it informed me that my windowssystem32configsystem file was missing or corrupt. Now it seems as if there are new small changes each time I try to start up. I'm at a total loss regarding this. I have virus protection, firewall, and I hadn't been downloading or surfing any unfamiliar sites.

When I try to turn on the computer I get a black screen that appears stating that Windows did not shut down properly and how would I like to restart the computer. There are then five options available to chose from (3 Safe Modes options, last known configuration, and normally). I have attempted all five with no good outcome.

After Installing And Restarting Computer The Black Screen - NTLDR Missing
Apr 29, 2007It all started when i installed a fax modem on my computer. After installing it and restarting the computer the black screen came up with the run normal, safe mode and so on. I tried all of them and nothing worked. So i got a boot cd off the internet and tried using that but did not know what i was doing or how to use it. I tried running a couple things but nothing worked i probably just made it worse. So now when i try load windows a NTLDR is missing error comes up. Has anyone seen this before? Any help would be great i do not have original xp cd but i have a boot cd that may work if i knew how to use it.

Jan 7, 2007was getting a blue screen 07A was told by computer techs without looking it was either my hard drive or my operating system. Checked my hard drive several different ways and no problems. So I went to do a Windows XP repair instead of complete reinstall as they are a pain. After a long time it came back that couldn't do this because SPCMDCOM>SYS file was missing and couldn't repair from recovery console without it. My hard drive was replaced by Dell in July of 05 I think. What can I do without going to extremes? Secondly can I install my cd/dvd rom on my other Dell PC with discs I already have? I am very aggravated. I want to try to save at least 1 computer. On the 1st PC about 2 months ago I had my 17 inch flat panel go out it starts but then go black, I am using the 2nd computers screen!

Now, after the cleaning activity as explained by techguys, everything seems going well. All programs do start without problems (through the start-menu or the quick-start taskbar), but there is a small drawback: my desktop screen shows only my wallpaper, there are no icons. The right-mouse click on the desktop also doesn't work (although the desktopsettings are accessible through the control panel). I use WinXP pro. what is wrong and how do I get the icons back on the screen?

Oct 28, 2008its my previously-formatted HP Pavilion dv5201tx! The problem is as the title above. I can go into safe mode. I've used system restore twice. And in Documents and Settings folder I noticed it has:
Administrator
Administrator.computer description name
Administrator.computer description name.000
username1
username2
Is it creating more user folders? At some point Administrator.computer description name.000 wasn't there. Corrupted registry hive? I'm not sure! Restarted many times, used Last known good configuration, and it's still black after the boot screen. Please help!

I went through various 'fixes' without any luck. However in the end I was able to reinstall XP Pro and keep the files from the previous install.Today, however, I'd left my PC for a bit and when I came back I put in a CD I wanted to look at but when I used explorer to look at the CD drive it only showed files from the previous CD i had in. Then suddenly I got a message saying something about input/output. The PC froze and I had to reset. I got an error message along the lines of missing NTLDR file.

So I enter the cd rom and press 'r' for repair, I choose C:windows, however before it can begin to repair it asks me for an 'Administration Password' which I have no idea of after many attempts.
I do not want to have to format the pc since I have some very important files on it. Any help is appreciated.
