I am not sure where this came from there are 4 windows that have been opening and I don't recall downloading them! When I try to check thru properties, my computer or add/remove programs I am not recognizing them.

when I click on task manager it only shows the running task window. it used to have a list of all startup stuff and a thing where I could look at a graph of cpu usage, but those are not there anymore
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to run the Dell Diagnostics from my ResourceCD that came with my computer. I suspect a problem with my video card and I am trying to check it out. I've been trying the following steps but it doesn't work.
This is exactly what it says in my Dell Handbook:
1. Insert the resource CD.
2. Shut down and restart the computer. When the Dell logo appears, press F12 immediately.
3. When the boot device list appears, highlight IDE CD-ROM Device and press Enter. This is as far as I can get. When I select the CD-ROM to boot from, nothing happens and Windows loads normally.
4. Select the IDE CD-ROM Device option from the CD boot menu...........
I am trying to figure out what has been causing a blue screen of D to come up, while playing games.I can usually see the error, and diagnose from that, but the blue screen is not staying up for long enough for me to read it.is there somewhere it would log to, that I can look over, and see what kind of error it is returning? I believe it is probably my harddrive, because almost everything else in the system is brand new, (besides my DVD/CD player/burner) which seems to be faulty too (unless it is just the hard drive).
View 14 Replies View RelatedWorking on a Windows XP Home Edition Dell mini ATX with no serial mouse/keyboard - just USB. I ran Malware AntiMalwarebytes at owners home - no issues (apart from adware!) Keyboard/mouse work fine in set up - so have checked BIOS etc. Soon as load Windows - no response - hence Software issue rather than Hardware. Safe mode no use as mouse and keyboard don't work once windows loaded. Any gurus sorted this before? Have run a diagnostics through utility partition and Everything working okay - especially all USB elements.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI did a repair reinstall of XP which, not only failed but screwed up the computer badly.After spending many hours trying to fix it a couple of MS diagnostics told me their were some irreparable problems.At that point I decided to to a clean reinstall with a quick format in the hope of recovering some files. However, I got to the Product Key page and it told me "invalid key". So I did a complete format and again reinstalled XP to get the same result "invalid Key".I called MS and they generated a new key but I am getting the same result.

However, I ran the System Diagnostics and when it got to the Disk section - it is not recognizing the disk - it said Warning...and to check the cables. I have done that, and everything seems to be connected correctly.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIt all started with my Firefox randomly crashing when it felt was necessary. now i just tried using my windows media player and got the message "wmp is not installed properly and must be reinstalled - do you want to go to the site and download it". and when i restarted after i thought WMP just closed incorrectly the last time, i had the windows XP theme loaded (i use, and prefer the classic look). ps. my WMP is still fungooed. posting a HJT log.

The funny thing is, nothing pops up, does not re-direct.. And this is weird but all the sudden some gibberish sounds start playing... Sounds like multiple audio into one. I am in IT business, so I tried finding the source in Task manager, fully scanned for worms/trojans, you name it, and nothing was found!!This issue also locks up my IE, and I need to kill it... My screensaver will not turn on after a period of inactivity like it is supposed to. If I go into properties>Screensaver and set the "Wait" time to 5 and press "OK", in 5 five minutes the screensaver will come on. However, if I move the mouse and wait another five minutes the screensaver does not activate. It will only activate once per time you set its properties.

I'm really at a loss for words. For some odd reason, every now and again, I hear what sounds like the first second of the Linkin Park song Crawling. No idea where it's coming from. All of my mp3 players could be running or not and I've heard it. I've checked to make sure that if I had any browsers open, that there wasn't any kind of annoying flash advertisement doing it. I've updated my AVG Anti-Virus and ran that as well as AVG-Anti Spyware but I still hear the midi.

I believe I am current with updates.Don't know if this is relevant, but it seemed to start appearing when I renewed my virus software (Trend PC-cillin).Another thing that may or may not be relevant. Recently defragged and still had quite a few fragmented files that could not be fixed. Redid the procedure and reduced the number of files but still seemed like a lot. It takes about 8 hours to completely defrag.My hard disk is about 6 months old.

Giving up the idea... I proceeded to remove every file with Ahead Or Nero in it. Used jv 16 Power tools to remove left overs. Nothing now shows in jv16 or search of all files & folders (with hidden & system showing). Ran CCleaner including other MRUs etc.
I have a Windows XP and Comcast is my provider. Lately (started 2 weeks ago), while in the midst of doing a search or while viewing an internet news video, a BOX POPS UP and asks me if I want to WORK OFFLINE and I get automatically booted to WORKING OFFLINE. I know this is someone told me to CLICK ON "FILE" and there it is, a checkmark in front of WORK OFFLINE.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am getting hanging at any time, where the harddrive light is on continuously, but the monitor is on standby. I sometimes get the blue screen, and other times it just won't boot to the Windows start-up screen In all cases though, when I do have a problem, a simple pressing of the reset button does not do anything, as the monitor never does come back on, therefore no reboot. Only after powering off and on a few times, does it finally kick in. I am on the same computer right now...which leaves me to believe it isn't a software or Windows problem, but perhaps hardware, either memory or video card, I have not installed any new hardware though

I was checking out some web links when all of a sudden my internet firefox crashed and could not reopen Firefox. After I clicked ctrl+alt+delete I found a process running called msiexec.exe. or something like that. Press it again i get two " characters. Also works if i press it once and any other key. Its like the character is queing somewhere in the buffer. Now i thought it was the keyboard at first. I was browsing the internet on sites I usually go to (gamespot, rapbattles, ign, etc) and then a TV show I wanted to watch came on. So I closed the internet (nothing was opened) and left it on the desktop as I watched TV. Then when the show was over,completely off. And I didn't shut it off! So then I powered it up, and it sat at the little windows xp loading screen, and just kept loading... and loading, and my computer was making a weird noise. So I turned it off via button. And turned it back on a few minutes later, and it went to this screen and said "Windows had a problem starting up" or something like that. And it gave a few options,

I been using my PC for a few years now & it's been fine ever since, but now every time I start my PC every application transforms into a different font/style before going back to normal. My system is a XP Home SP2 & I'm using Firefox as my browser.
The last month I have been going through spyware/malware cleaners, used everyone one of them including Hijack This. The problem does not seem to be spyware.Now the problem all started when I clicked on some website when I was searching for an old obscure foreign band, at that moment my browser turned into a completely different style for a second.
