I noticed today that the icons in some of my folders (not the desktop icons) look strange. The text where the file name is--some of them have blue text and others have the usual black text.What the heck is this, and what do I need to do to fix it?
View 7 RepliesToday I downloaded a software called "spaceMonger" and explored my C drive (Not rooot drive) for the disc space usages..I got some huge files under Recycler and deleted em.But, There were some folders that software reffered as UNSCANNABLES.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an old software that runs in DOS and graphs some results obtained by a tool that connects via a serial port. Now, this software works fine on many of my notebooks, but there is a particular model; IBM T30 or A30, that produce errors. The error is that on the screen when I graph the numbers and text (ie axis and points of ref.) show in some weird scrable text. it doesnt even look foreign, just scribble. Any ideas? I have IBM T41 and IBM 600 and it works fine....what does it mean that on IBM T30 or A30 it fails? is it a hardware? because I tried installing Win2000 and same problem....please any suggestions

This has vanished. I now have to manually count the letters how can I get this drop down box back please.

View 8 Replies View RelatedBack in my MS-DOS days I could get the directory of a folder and direct it to a text file. Now I'd like to do that again, but I can't figure out to make it work in Windows Explorer (for XP, but I also have Vista on my notebook).Do I have to run a DOS window. Is the syntax the same? (Can I remember it?) Are there any shareware or freeware program managers that provide this function?
I've got a folder on my PC containing pictures. When I open it in Windows Explorer and use the Thumbnails view, the file names under the thumbnails are gone. In other folders they are visibile (even subfolders of the not working folder). When I choose any other view the filenames reappear just fine..In the 'Choose Details' window of the folder the 'Name' option is selected (it's not even possible to deselect it).

I have a folder with files I am keeping, copying it from computer to computer when I change computers. In this folder I am unable to see folder/file names unless I mark them. This has irritated me to some extent since there are around 12-13000 files in this folder by now. I have asked around at computer-tech stores, and some of my more or less nerdy friends. One of wich is mostly always able to help me but not with this.

These folders appear on all of my drives c:, d:, g: and they are random. It looks like they are of another language, maybe? Actually, the wording makes no sense at all...> It looks like most of these folders previously existed.
Things I have done: Ran Anti-V program + Ewido Suite = No viruses, trojans, malware, etc. Ran three adware programs (ad-aware, spywareblaster, spyware doctor) = Clear. Checked all running processes and startup tab in mscofig = no peculiar programs detected. Ran regseeker = Phenominal amount of invalid keys, etc. (3,000+) very unusual to the norm!!!
How can I make my Windows Explorer display the text names? Normally in Thumbnail view it shows the names too ...

The text file would have to be in this way: I am using graburl to update my host of my location, so I thou ht that I could use graburl to do something like this. If it is not possible to include date and time in the text file it is not completely required. However the latest IP address would have to be at the top of the list not at the bottom This must also happen even if date and time columns are in the list.

I'm sure it's related to a menu toolbar that I've created on the desktop (it's on autohide) If I boot up the pc it's not there, but if I click on the autohide toolbar to access a program, this wierd file appears on the task bar and won't go away. The funny thing is that I can't find out if it relates to one specific program. I've tried them all individually and some where along the line it' triggers this file. I've got Windows XP Pro with SP2. I've got Trend PC-cillin with spyware stopper installed. I've tried using Adaware SE but it hangs itself and it seems to be a problem that Lavasoft are trying to sort out

No big deal, it's easy to do.But here's the kicker... once I'd created a My Documents folder in the larger partition, I decided to click on it and move it to the top of the list of folders, using the My Computer screen.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI recently reformatted my computer, but before doing so moved all my documents to my "D" partition so I could easily bring them back after the reformat. I am using Windows XP Professional Sp3. One of the files I saved was encrypted in windows xp (the file's title has a green font color indicates it is encrypted). When I try to open it it just says 'access denied'. I tried opening it on Administrator account and that also didn't work. I am using the same windows account name and my computer name is identical to the way it was before the reformat. When I right click the file, go to properties, advanced, details.. it shows:
"Users who can transparently access this file: Me@my-desktop (some certificate thumbprint in hex here) That user name "me" and the computer name "my-desktop" are identical to the user name and computer name I have on the computer now.

I want to delete this. How? When I go to C:/Program Files/IM Names and if I want to delete the IM Names folder I can't. This second drive has been named "3 1/2 Floppy B:" by the computer. The problem is that I am working with a program that is looking for floppy drive A, not B, and since drive A is useless, I'm wondering how I can have the program recognize drive B as the correct drive to use. I attempted to rename drive B as drive A, but the computer would not allow me.

the other day i was working in My Documents in Windows XP when the page suddenly clicked off. no big deal, but when i brought My Documents back up, all the names below each and every folder & file were gone!!!
