USB Keyboard - USB Hub Not Installing
Jun 10, 2010
This started when we switched USB keyboards. We were using a Chester Creek USB keyboard without any problems. We bought a new Chester Creek keyboard and plugged it in, The found new hardware wizard opened and looked for a driver but was unable to find one.So we plugged the old keyboard back in and the same thing happened. So now both keyboard don't work in the USB slots. They both work fine using an USB to PS/2 Adapter. Also our USB Hub is now not installing eitherThe same thing happens, found new hardware wizard opens, but is unable to find a driver.Everything else works in the USB slots, Flash drives, headphones, Hard drives Only the USB keyboards and USB Hubs are not working.

I found this forum and it solved the BSOD problem by autodetecting the hard drive. Yay, I finally got the Windows Setup screen. However my keyboard isn't recognized so I can't begin the install. It's a USB and I've tried it in other ports. When I pop out the cd, and start the pc normally, the keyboard works. Windows Vista won't start...I'm guessing because I have to change the drive configuration back to where it was. I really want this Vista gone

When I try to install windows xp pro it gets to the part when it says Loading Keyboard Layout Library KBDUS.DLL... and it just stays there. One of my friends told me that it can take a little longer on some computers so I let it stay on all night long it was still on the same thing when I got up. I've tried every thing that I know. Everything seems to be working right also I was wondering I've got a new CPU coming that I'm going to install would I need to reinstall windows if I get it to install on this CPU?

I have a friends PC, a gateway P4 2.6, winxp home. The mouse and keyboard up and died. He had a kvm switch, the electronic kind when it stopped functioning. I have tried usb, ps2 everything. The keyboard works on bootup, so I can get into bios etc... but when it gets to the windows screen, nothing. No mouse or keyboard. Safe mode is the same thing. Dont want to format and reinstall windows. On that note, I did try a repair, when it asks for admin password it wont accept it. Says invalid admin password.. The password IS windows admin password though. With no mouse even in safemode, and windows not accepting my admin password during repair,

I just finished assembling my new build. It boots and I can get to the BIOS. I even have it booting from the DVD drive so I can load Win XP.However, when I get to the Windows Setup and it asks me if I want to setup windows(press enter), Repair(some other key), quit(F3) my keyboard won't work. I hit "Enter" because I want to install XP and nothing happens. It is not responding to my keyboard strokes.
This is strange because the keyboard works in the BIOS.

I install Server 2003 Standard SP1 downloaded and installed on a PII 400, 256Mb RAM with IIS, ASP.Net 2.0, SQL server 2000 SP4, Mysql 5, and PHP5, and all without a single hitch...too good to be true. I went ahead and tried on what will be my server PIII600, 512 MB RAM, First try, Server 2003 couldn't find a file when installing, retried and it worked. Downloaded SP1 and when I was extracting it said "file is corrupt", downloaded 4 more times with same result. reformatted and reinstalled 5 more times and cannot get past "file is corrupt" on SP1 and sometimes extracting the .Net 2.0 installer got the same error. I swap all hardware with PC from first try (except RAM, Mobo, CPU, CDROM) with no change. Win98 and XP installed fine on the second PC just can't get server 2003

I recently installed xp for the first time after replacing motherboard and CPU.I skipped setup because I didn't know what I was doing. Now I can't boot up (cold or warm) without using the original disk. Can I just go into setup and change boot settings without re-installing.Is there anything else I should know before I attempt to fix this problem? I am tired of using the disk every time I update something or install new program.

I've been casually looking for a new laptop for my Mom for her first computer. Now I am ready to get one, but just about the only choice is something pre-loaded with Vista. I have no experience with Vista and have heard more bad than good about it, therefore I think it would be easier to get her up and running if we're not both having to learn a new OS.
I upgraded my computer from ME to XP with few problems but wondered how difficult it would be to take a new laptop and go backwards. I know I'd most likely have to purchase a Full version of XP, but how much of a hassel is it to get all the drivers/XP versions of necessary pre-loaded software? Would a Vista compatible version of say Word work if I did this? Any other problems I haven't thought of?

I re-formated my sisters computer yesterday, and after installing it i had no internet. As i hadn't installed any drivers yet, i understood that. But after heading over to dell's site, downloading all of the drivers for her computer and then installing them, i STILL do not have any internet. I don't see any connections on the computer either, it's just blank!

Just got a new Dell laptop without a PS2 port. I have an external PS keyboard that I want to use with it. I am using a PS2 to USB adapeter extension to plug it into the bus. The device manager will not acknowledge the external hardward via the USB plug.
The keyboard is made by Inland. The CD rom that came with it for the driver has been installed but it does not work because of the USB port issue.

I have done a format and complete new installation of Windows Xp. Upon rebooting, the computer shows me the option on screen (F1)of going into BIOS setup.then shows me a blank screen with the message-Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt.I removed that hard drive and tried another working hard drive with WinXp and same message came up. Problem the computer does not respond to my (PS2)keyboard input so that I can at least go into the bios setting. Bought a new Logitech USB keyboard but that too did'nt resolve the problem. Is there a way to update this bios as I noted a new update. Computer is a Compaq presario 1920nx.

I'm a fairly experienced Window user and I'm about to pull my hair out trying to figure out these two issues I'm having as of late with my system. Both of these seem to have started on thier own and I can find no traces of spyware or virus. The first issue is my computer will seem to lag at random times for around 10 seconds where it will not acknowledge input from the keyboard, it will take input from the mouse and or joystick but not the keyboard. After the 10 seconds has passed all the keys I've pressed will go in all at once.some reason when I play an AVI file now the foreground sounds (voices mostly) is completely drowned out but I can hear the background music just fine. I don't have any fancy surround soundcard in this system only the onboard sound card and its plugged into a simple set of desktop speakers.

I have a Dell Dimension 5150 which has no PS/2 inputs for Keyboard or Mouse only USB ports.I recently did something I regret now. I was installing a USB TV Tuner which told me I need to install a up to date USB 2.0 Driver which was on the Install CD. I did this, but now my Keyboard and Mouse do Not work when Windows XP starts. The Keyboard works in BIOS with all lights showing on the Keyboard, but as soon as Windows XP starts to load then the lights go off and nothing works. There are no settings that I can see in BIOS that works and I do not have a backup of my Hard Drive.

My friend is getting the above message when trying to boot up he has xp home. I cannot get into the bios or safe mode. There are 2 options press f1 to continue or del for setup neither works because the keyboard does not work. I have tried a keyboard that I know works and get the same message. His dvd rw drive is also not working but that is nothing to do with this problem its never worked for a while even before this problem. It is computer made by tiny which went out of business, he has a reload disc but with the drive not working cant use it. Unless I can get hold of my sons usb external rw drive which I will try to do tomorrow. I dont know if it will work though as the computer is not going very far into the post. I have to put the reload disc in whilst attempting to boot up. I am thinking this could be a hardware problem,He had problems with his ps/2 ports a while back so his keyboard is connected by a usb to ps/2 adapter.

I own a TravelMate 371TCi for about a couple years and until now I was very happy with it. Since past week, I`ve been having some problems regarding the keyboard. I`m not sure if it is a mechanical problem or something like a trojan/virus/worm/etc.. The problem is that eventually the keyboard freezes, sometimes all of its keys, sometimes just a few ones like J or U or H, for instance. I`ve tried to mess around by searching with Spybot, Norton, manually and so, without sucess. I was wondering if any of you heard of something like that or know something that can help me finding out what is wrong. What seens more plausible, a mechanical or some other kind of problem? I usually carry it around in my case, without much protection.

I opened my computer this afternoon and the screen was full of malware saying my computer was infected and buy thier removal tool. I could not open any programs or even use the keyboard. I restarted in safe mode and did a system restore for 2 days ago and everything looks OK except the keyboard wont work. The lights come on but none of the keys will work. Some of the hot buttons work. I have uninstalled through the device manager and keyboard in control panel and restarted. There is a screen that says that computer has detected new hardware and so I want to install, I click yes reboot and it is still x'ed out in device manager and won't work. I did troubleshoot and get this."Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory.

Hello, I have a very screwed up Win XP computer and am trying to reinstall XP from the CD. I changed the boot order to boot from CD and everything goes fine, files load etc. It asks a few questions during the loading which I answer and all goes fine. Then after it loads the files it finally asks 'are you sure you want to proceed' but at that point everything USB fails including the keyboard, so I can't tell it Yes to proceed. There is no other port to plug in an input device other than the 6 usb ports. Is there a way to get around this?

I'm having a keyboard problem that nobody can solve. Should I reinstall the driver? Windows says if I remove the driver it will automatically select one the next time I reboot. Has anyone done this? I'm afraid it will screw up like most Microsoft programs and I'll have a laptop with a dead keyboard.

I bought a new keyboard, and to install it I had to uninstall the old drivers (it was wireless, so is the new one.) After doing that and rebooting, it no longer picks up any keyboards once its in windows. It picks it fine in bios (and I can choose which OS to load.. I have fedora on a seperate HD, not the one I boot off of). This is true for every keyboard! Wireless or not! So I'm stumped.Either windows removed some file when uninstalling the last wireless software, or I donno what else it could be.Any ways I can this fixed? I was thinking if I bypass the password into windows then I can reinstall the drivers. I think a normal XP cd would work?

I installed XP on my new Acer Aspire Revo 3600 (Managed to finally get HDMI sound working okay, etc, etc, but that's another story. It came pre-installed with a Linux distribution, which didn't even get past the boot screen, and up until recently the wireless keyboard supplied was working fine (plug and play I'm assuming). Then starting yesterday whenever I pressed any given key on the keyboard, it would come up with another character (not the one I pressed). Note that some keys are still mapped correctly, but for example the "I" key will come up as if I pressed "7", and "P" will end up with "9", etc. It's as if it thinks the right had side of my alphabetical QWERTY keys are the number pad.Note that this same issue also first happened in the Linpus Linux command prompt when I first received my Revo, but that didn't matter because I put XP on since.

About 5 hours ago my pc crashed, since rebooting my usb keyboard no longer works when it reaches windows login. I'm completely lost with this and it's infuriating me.
- I'm running windows xp
- Never had this issue before with keyboard, it's always worked until 5 hours ago
- There is no fault with the keyboard, I've tried in on 2 other systems and it works fine
- There's no problems with the USB ports all other usb devices work and work on all the ports.
- The mouse as well as all other usb devices work fine
- I've uninstalled the keyboard several times and reinstalled with no luck
The keyboard is a generic dell one using a dell system.
- The device manager doesn't report any issues. The keyboard is listed as installed and working properly.
- The keyboard does work in BIOS just not in windows
The only way i can get into windows is to use remote desktop from another pc so i can use another systems keyboard to control this pc which is what im doing now.Having endlessly searched for a solution, nothing has worked. There was a registry fix but it hasn't worked. One thing I thought may have caused it was before I had made a registry change to IRPStackSize to try to resolve a network issue. I reverted this change back and still no response from keyboard.

Instructed to avoid using IE, so browsing with Netscape 8.x instead - was exploring my nephew's MySpace site. She said that the monitor began flashing intermittantly (go black for half a second at a time, then come back on). Because she insists on running scripts, I instantly suspected some malware and ran some scans that came up clean (Symantec AV and Windows Defender antispyware). After a reboot, the problem was still there but a bit worse. I tried restoring to progressively older restore points, but that didn't work either. I found, in fact, that after the reboot, my keyboard did not work. In Safe mode, I get no monitor blinking, but the keyboard still won't work.
