Is it impossible to do a clean reinstall of Win XP with a wireless keyboard and mouse?I can boot to BIOS and edit my BIOS with my wireless keyboard, but I can't when I boot to the Windows install disk.Is there a work-around, other than pulling out my old keyboard and mouse?

I'm using two monitors but I want to be able to use the same keyboard and mouse for both computers. My question is if I use a KVM switch that supports USB would it be compatible with my wirelss mouse and wireless keyboard that both have USB interfaces? Also, any recommendations for a good KVM switch? I would like one that also gives me the option to share my speakers.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMS Wireless mouse 5000 with MS Bluetooth dongle. I bought the set to install on my desktop eMachine, XP w/SP3. The idiotic instructions only showed inserting the batteries into the KB and mouse and then inserting the BT transceiver into a USB port. Nothing. And the KB and mouse don't have buttons on the bottom. The worst thing is that all the MS articles I've read reference the "Bluetooth Devices" icon in the control panel.
When I bring up the CP, there is no BT icon there. I've done the command line "btprops.cpl" and nothing happens. I've turned the PC off, booted back again, and no plug and play detection of the BT dongle. When I go into the Device Manager, and check the properties of both the KB and mouse, both say they are installed and working properly! The KB and mouse set came with an installation CD and that was it. No freaking user manual and I can't find one on the CD.
I've been given a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 700:the first time i've connected the Receiver, XP auto-installed it and the keyboard worked fine but after rebooting, the keyboard isnt working any longer. I tried syncing the keyboard, changed the batteries, reinstalled but it still wont work: do you have any suggestions on how to get it to work?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI opened my computer this afternoon and the screen was full of malware saying my computer was infected and buy thier removal tool. I could not open any programs or even use the keyboard. I restarted in safe mode and did a system restore for 2 days ago and everything looks OK except the keyboard wont work. The lights come on but none of the keys will work. Some of the hot buttons work. I have uninstalled through the device manager and keyboard in control panel and restarted. There is a screen that says that computer has detected new hardware and so I want to install, I click yes reboot and it is still x'ed out in device manager and won't work. I did troubleshoot and get this."Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory.

I changed the boot order to boot from CD and everything goes fine, files load etc. It asks a few questions during the loading which I answer and all goes fine. Then after it loads the files it finally asks 'are you sure you want to proceed' but at that point everything USB fails including the keyboard, so I can't tell it Yes to proceed. There is no other port to plug in an input device other than the 6 usb ports. Is there a way to get around this?

(The system still seems to be running because it performs a normal shutdown when I hit the power button.) Googling suggested uninstalling the keyboard from device manager and then letting it reinstall; however, the add new hardware wizard fails saying that the device driver is corrupt or missing.How do I reinstall the keyboard drivers from the XP Pro CD? I've tried letting the hardware wizard search the cd drive, but it doesn't find anything.I think I had the same problem on my notebook, but I only solved it by reverting to an old Ghost image, because having to press Ctrl-Alt-Del to log on meant I couldn't even access the system with the mouse.

When booting my computer the keyboard does not become active until windows has loaded. Hense I am unable to press F8 during the boot process and therefore cannot boot to safe mode. I was asked to locate the ethernet port at the back of my printer, plug the ethernet port cable and connect it to the Verizon router. Unfortunately, my printer does not have an ethernet port. After doing all the Microsoft Updates, ALL the wireless driver installs from Gateway there is no 'Wireless Network Connection' icon. I have also checked Device Manager and there is no wireless adapter. Before this exercise she was running wireless fine. It does work 'hard wired' but no wireless icon.

View 10 Replies View RelatedWe have two laptops and one wireless (HP Photosmart C7280) printer. Our laptops both connect to the internet wirelessly through a router. I was able to install and can print wirelessly from my laptop (a Mac) with no problems. However, we cannot figure out how to print wirelessly from my boyfriend's laptop (a Dell). We have installed the printer software and the printer itself on his laptop, and the laptop is able to identify the wireless printer over the network. We made sure that the printer is set to "online" and that file/printer sharing is turned on. But, whenever we go to print any kind of a file, we get an error message simply stating that the printer was unable to print and that we should run the troubleshooter. So, we run the troubleshooter, and we get this message:"The troubleshooter was not able to ping (detect a connection with) your print server. This might be the cause of the problem. Verify that your network is configured correctly and that you are connected to the network."
I am more used to working with Macs and my boyfriend is computer illiterate, so we're a bit lost as to what this means. I was able to set up a wireless network connection on his laptop, but beyond that I'm not sure what else to do. Most of the other advice I've seen online involves a wireless printer that is wired to one computer, and another laptop trying to wirelessly access that printer through the connected computer...if that makes any sense. Our printer isn't wired to anything, and we just can't figure out why it'll print wirelessly on the Mac but not on the Dell laptop. Any ideas?
I have aproblem with my XP machine.when i boot up the small wireless icon says its not connected,Also when i click to view available wireless networks that there are none in range, i reboot the pc and it might resolve it .More often than not it doesnt.Also i sometimes get a yellow exclamation mark over the wlan in device manager.I update the driver and it resolves until next time i boot back up the pc.Wireless switch is on. My 2 other pcs wrk perfect.

View 14 Replies View RelatedIf i log onto my computer and just go into network connections, the computer is not able to look for wireless networks. if i hit the button to find networks, it gives me some strange error message. i have noticed though that i can fix the problem if i manually go into services and start the wireless zero configuration service myself. i configured this service to start automatically, and to keep restarting if attempts to start fail, but for whatever reason, the service does not start on its own when i boot the computer. once i start the service, i am able to connect without any problems.
The error message i get says something about finding more than one wirless device. i have a belkin usb wireless card, and before i installed the one i have now, i had another that coincidentally was the same size and also made by belkin. thinking that maybe some software was still on the computer, causing it to find both, and consequently not being able to connect to either, i uninstalled all the software for both routers and deleted all the related program files off of the computer. then i reinstalled and...got the same exact problem.
I have a friends PC, a gateway P4 2.6, winxp home. The mouse and keyboard up and died. He had a kvm switch, the electronic kind when it stopped functioning. I have tried usb, ps2 everything. The keyboard works on bootup, so I can get into bios etc... but when it gets to the windows screen, nothing. No mouse or keyboard. Safe mode is the same thing. Dont want to format and reinstall windows. On that note, I did try a repair, when it asks for admin password it wont accept it. Says invalid admin password.. I even have it booting from the DVD drive so I can load Win XP.However, when I get to the Windows Setup and it asks me if I want to setup windows(press enter), Repair(some other key), quit(F3) my keyboard won't work. I hit "Enter" because I want to install XP and nothing happens. It is not responding to my keyboard strokes.
This is strange because the keyboard works in the BIOS.
My friends keyboard is not working. When she turns the computer on no lights come up on the keyboard. Have tried another keyboard and still the same. Unable to get into the computer to check bios etc as there is a password on the account.

BUT it still save my Files. I have my orginial files in my Documents folders and In my Program Files It has all the Programs and files that go with that program? How do I zap everything back on my desktop screen so I don't have to go Download each files as new again??? I tried posting a question on another usenet newsgroup, but the answer of: click on install on the C:windowsinfpchealth.inf file - resulted in a search for the file dataspec.xml in the C:windowsinfi386 directory - Unfortunately, such directory does not exist on my C: drive. Furthermore, the "K:I386" directory of my Original Win XP Home CD does not contain any file named "dataspec.xm_ or .xml".And beyond that, I ordered a new Win XP SP2 CD, which just now arrived by mail - and there is no "K:I386" directory on that CD, nor does the CD apparently contain any file called "dataspec" (including dataspec.*).Another effort toward resolution occurred via another usenet post I read, which suggested opening the XP command line feature and executing a system status command, that displayed enabled services - I used that method, and switched the Help and Support service off and then on again. The reinstall worked fine but I cannot reinstall my Virgin Media Bradband service. Before the reinstall the bradband service was wrking fine..When I originall took out the bradband service it was through NTL. My cable modem states 'NTL' and the broadband disk has NTL' on it and I registered it tthough NTL. Now Virgin Media has bought up NTl annd I don't know if there is a compatibility prblem. I've already gone through all the steps to correct this (checking my DSL speed, anti-spyware scans, anti-virus scans, doing it all in safe mode, even reset my winsock.dll, etc.) but I'm still having problems with slow browsers. So now I think I'm faced with reinstalling Windows XP. My question is, should I do a format & reinstall, or is it better to reinstall Windows over my existing version? I can connect to my neighbors unsecured wireless automatically but not my own secured network. View 7 Replies View RelatedI am living in a shared residence and the guys here are running wireless adsl. It is an infrastructure network using 128bit WEP encryption. I'm not sure about their hardware but I am using an asus 54mbps usb stick. I have no problmes logging on but for some reason the wireless config. program automatically checks the "the key is provided for me automatically" option in the network properties. Now this prevents me from getting access to the network after any sort of disconnection. If I uncheck this box the stars in the key field (representing the WEP key) dissappear and so the key needs to be reentered. It only does this some times and since I don't have a copy of the key (the network administrator enters it on my computer) every couple of days I need to get the key re-entered on my computer. It is a real hassle and I can't work out why windows keeps defaulting to this option of having the key provided automatically.

Is there a registry key that can be exported (from already configured laptop) that will contain all wireless settings? We have 2 different profiles we use through Windows Zero on XP SP2. This registry should have everything in there (ssid, keys, encryption, RADIUS and other possible settings for wireless)Please help.
