I bought a new keyboard, and to install it I had to uninstall the old drivers (it was wireless, so is the new one.) After doing that and rebooting, it no longer picks up any keyboards once its in windows. It picks it fine in bios (and I can choose which OS to load.. I have fedora on a seperate HD, not the one I boot off of). This is true for every keyboard! Wireless or not! So I'm stumped.Either windows removed some file when uninstalling the last wireless software, or I donno what else it could be.Any ways I can this fixed? I was thinking if I bypass the password into windows then I can reinstall the drivers. I think a normal XP cd would work?
I recently and unwittingly uninstalled my SoundMax program that I assume was my sound driver. As such I can no longer receive audio from my speakers, and the speakers themselves are not recognized by XP. The speakers themselves, by my judgement, are Logitech Z-3e speakers, bought several years ago and working perfectly until this point. They are connected correctly. I am running Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3, with the latest updates. WMP gives me the message: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device" In WMP, under Sync--->Options--->Speaker Properties, the speaker is listed as "Default DirectSound Device" and there is no other option. In Audio Device Properties, there is apparently no audio device. I visited the logitech site for a new sound driver, as XP Help reccomended, at the following site:....
I'm having a keyboard problem that nobody can solve. Should I reinstall the driver? Windows says if I remove the driver it will automatically select one the next time I reboot. Has anyone done this? I'm afraid it will screw up like most Microsoft programs and I'll have a laptop with a dead keyboard.
I'm running XP Pro SP3 and have recently encountered a problem whereby both the mouse and the keyboard freeze the first time that the keyboard is used. (The system still seems to be running because it performs a normal shutdown when I hit the power button.) Googling suggested uninstalling the keyboard from device manager and then letting it reinstall; however, the add new hardware wizard fails saying that the device driver is corrupt or missing. How do I reinstall the keyboard drivers from the XP Pro CD? I've tried letting the hardware wizard search the cd drive, but it doesn't find anything.I think I had the same problem on my notebook, but I only solved it by reverting to an old Ghost image, because having to press Ctrl-Alt-Del to log on meant I couldn't even access the system with the mouse.
Since installing Windows XP SP2 (upgrade from SP1) I noticed that Standby does not function. When I manually go to Standby, or if my laptop tries to go into Standby as per the power management settings I have set, I get the following message: "Standby has been prevented by the Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard device driver. You may need to install an updated driver."
Any ideas on what I can try. I have tried uninstalling the keyboard in safe mode and rebooting to reinstall the keyboard drivers. I have also checked my BIOS settings, and tried resetting the power management settings. I have even updated my ATI video adapter drivers. I noticed the problem shortly after installing SP2. There are no updated drivers available from Gateway for the keyboard.
I have a friends PC, a gateway P4 2.6, winxp home. The mouse and keyboard up and died. He had a kvm switch, the electronic kind when it stopped functioning. I have tried usb, ps2 everything. The keyboard works on bootup, so I can get into bios etc... but when it gets to the windows screen, nothing. No mouse or keyboard. Safe mode is the same thing. Dont want to format and reinstall windows. On that note, I did try a repair, when it asks for admin password it wont accept it. Says invalid admin password.. The password IS windows admin password though. With no mouse even in safemode, and windows not accepting my admin password during repair,
I just finished assembling my new build. It boots and I can get to the BIOS. I even have it booting from the DVD drive so I can load Win XP.However, when I get to the Windows Setup and it asks me if I want to setup windows(press enter), Repair(some other key), quit(F3) my keyboard won't work. I hit "Enter" because I want to install XP and nothing happens. It is not responding to my keyboard strokes. This is strange because the keyboard works in the BIOS.
My friends keyboard is not working. When she turns the computer on no lights come up on the keyboard. Have tried another keyboard and still the same. Unable to get into the computer to check bios etc as there is a password on the account.
I hate service pack 3.All its done is take my Superduper 2 gig system and turn it into an 8088 xt system. Is there anyway to remove service pack 3, or do I need to do a complete and utter reboot and reinstall of Windows, including all the updates etc?And is there a way i can save the existing updates so that I won't have to download them all again? If I have to do a compelete reinstall, im looking at an 8 hour job or more.

My Laptop XP Pro with SP3 is totally different to the same on my PC, where I upgraded the Sp's as they came out. So the format is different between the two.I wanted to un-install my laptops version and install the version downloaded from MS, but I don't have the option to do so in Add/Remove on the Laptop as I do on the PC. Its listed, but no option to remove/uninstall.Can I un-install this SP3 in the registry or anyother way or could I just install my version and overwrite the current SP3.
I tryed a firewall called Comodo. I was not impressed because I could not get it to allow alot of my apps access even after creating rules ect. I uninstalled it, which was a nightmare and took forever because their installer is bugged! anyway, I have gone through the Regedit and deleted all ref's to comodo, deleted the folders ect. Best as I can tell everythine has been removed. However I have programs, apps and games that used to access fine BEFORE installing Comodo that cant connect now! Should I do a reinstall of XP? or is there some other files that the firewall might of moded that can be replaced? Any thoughts or ideas? I have a post on the Comodo Forums, but after searching most of the day I have yet to find anyone with a problem like this after following the manuel uninstallation and I'm not to hopeful...

I have a Gateway 7422GX which as a Mobility Radeon 9550. I repaired windows using the cd because I restarted my computer and it was either going to take 7min+ to boot, or just wasn't going to. I got stuck at the windows splash screen. I'm using windows professional. Whenever I try to install any of the drivers, I get the same error message: Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system. Setup will now exit.

I have been trying to remove quicktime but the message comes up a program or control panel appears to be running. Uninstallation cannot continue unless you exit all programs using quicktime. As far as I know quicktime is not being used

I am running a windows XP system. The other day I was uninstalling a piece of software that I had downloaded and wasn't paying attention as I clicked through the prompts and inadvertantly uninstalled it and the sounds for my computer. Is there a way to reverse my blunder and return this computer to its beeping and whirring glory. The computer is my landlords and he is being very restrained in his reaction to my inattentiveness.
I uninstalled Cyber Scrub Professionl Suite v. 4 and it left behind a persistent devil--cybshell.dll It can be seen in Process Explorer displays hiding in explorer.exe in the startup list. I cannot see it running in Task Manager. HiJack This doesn't see it either. Yet I can't delete it. I get the usual XP admonition "Cannot deleter cybshell: Access is denied--Make sure that the disk is not write-protected or that the file is in use.
I've recently uninstalled a program I had on my computer called Venturi2. It had been running in the background and didn't seem to be serving any purpose so did so. I did get the feeling it had something to do with graphics though. This was maybe 2 days ago. I tried playing a game right now (Command and Conquer) and for some reason it was lagging horribly. I've ran it fine in the past. Are these two things related? Either way is there some way to redownload the program? I've tried googling all over but the only links I find are linking to an informer.com domain, whereupon it says it doesnt have the software but to try googling it.
Running Windows XP on a one year old Vostro 220. Problem seems to have started after I replaced McAffee with Norton 360 per Comcast's changeover. I have since uninstalled Norton but the problem persists. Ran PSA which showed no hardware or memory problems. I believe Norton must have changed some of the registry values. I am running Norton on my laptop with Windows 7 but that is not a problem.
I have 18.4 GB on the C drive.About a year ago, I needed more space so Iuninstalled programs that I hadn't used for awhile, and it cleared enough several gigs of space for me to do stuff again.Afew months later, although i hadn't added any programs, I was out of space again. This time, I got rid of even programs I did use. I cleared a few gigs again, but a month later, it was gone again. I moved all my picture and text files onto external drives.
Uninstalled microsoft office 2003. she says it is still showing in add and remove she gets this error file-sku112.cab--the problem is she doesn't have the office disk that came with computer in 2005. i seached several forums on this problem there doesn't seem to be a simple solution without the orignal disk.
