To Help Protect Your Security Internet Explorer Has Restricted The File?
Oct 22, 2007
I am trying to install HP Image Zone Plus but I keep getting a yellow bar with the writing "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer. Click for options..." When I click there is the statement "Allow blocked content" - when I click on this, nothing happens - the message just reappears. How can I correct this problem so I can load my program? I don't know where to start.

On both my desktop and my laptop running WindowsXP SP2 I use a simple, homemade start page with links to sites I visit almost daily. Frequently, when I open this page, I will get this message on my desktop but not my laptop:"To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer."Clicking for options, I get:"Are you sure you want to let this file run active content?"This is ridiculous, as there is no such "active content" on the page. Obviously, it has something to do with IE security settings.

I just looked at internet options - security - restricted sites and found a bunch in there. I had none about a month ago and never had any before. Some sound bad but that's irrelevant, my question is how did they get there? Is this some connection to MS's new security downloads?

I think that I have a virus which is stopping me from 1) Installing Norton Internet Security 2005 properly, and 2) Stopping me from accessing all anti-virus related sites, for example - www.symantec.com, ww.grisoft.com, www.pandasoftware.com, and when i tried to download AVG 6.0 from another site which was unrelated to antivirus, I found that I could access the site but the download failed.

When trying to look at my file in MS explorer, I get the message: Your current security settings prohibits running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly. No folder or subfolders are shown.Other strange problems started to happen:
1- Clicking on Task manager brings up the pop up and immediately disappears
2- Can not bring up the Control panel in the normal window. Clicking on any Icon (like add/remove..) that is shown, does nothing!
3- Some system tools (defrag,) do not work at all. No pop up window comes up.

I'm looking for an application that will give me the power of windows xp "group policy" but will allow me to give different permissions to different users, or to different groups on a local machine.I'm running an internet cafe, and have serious problems restricting users permissions. The internet cafe software I use (cybercafe pro) doesn't run on a restricted user account (I'll be glad if you can recomend me another software).I want the users to be unable to download or install any program, and if they manage to get out of the internet cafe software, not to be able to see the "start" button, or the desktop.

from where I can find an explanation of what all the different settings in Internet Options > Security > Custom Level mean? I've already looked in Windows Help and on the Microsoft website but I haven't had much luck.
All I want to do is switch off some of messages like 'Do you want to run this software?' when I click on a program I've just downloaded, but I don't know which options do what.

Recent install of XP Pro.Is there a major disadvantage to running as Admin user all the time? I never setup any users, and I'm the only user of the machine. Are there security risks from the outside world (internet), or otherwise if I always run as the Admin?

Recently I reinstalled XP Home Edition and XP Pro using a slipstreamed installation disk contain SP2 and the latest hotfixes. Following those installations I found that I could not easily access any Drive Image (pqi) files that were created under the newly installed operating systems. The images could be restored but only after booting from the Drive Image rescue floppies. I also was not able to open and explore any of those images using Drive Image ImageExplorer. Images created prior to these installation could be opened and restored within windows with Drive Image. To access the images created under the new OS installation I had start the Home Edition in the safe mode and the go the image file, right click and select security. Then I had to add my user name under services and then check full control. In the XP Pro system I had to disable simple file protection and then change the security settings in a similar manner. This all had to be done even though the user has full administrator rights. I've been using Drive Image 2002 for the last 2 years for backups on both Home Edition and Pro versions of XP so this behavior is something I believe is new an possible a result of security updates included in the new installations. I really need access to these images from within windows but I also need to retain simple files sharing on my XP Pro machine.

Has anyone tried the new "Norton Internet Security 2007" product with Windows XP Pro?I read a good review on it at the pcmag.com website and I am trying to decide if I want to buy it? I will be using it with my laptop computer which I use with a wireless router with built-in firewall. I am mainly concerned with Viruses, Spyware, Adware, and wireless security.I know that previous version of Norton Internet Security have gotten bad reviews, buy it looks like they got their act together on this one.

This has happened on two computers: my wife's and my parents'. Automatic updating is turned on. My wife's computer suddenly lost Internet service upon reboot. I checked everything. She had access to the Linksys router, the network properties showed she was connected to the Internet and, most importantly, I, on another computer, was connected (my auto updates was turned off). I fixed the problem by going to the Device Manager, uninstalling the network card and then scanning for hardware changes. Bing! Working again. Two days later I'm at my parents' house. I turned on their computer, updates were installed and the system restarted. Again, no Internet service despite all apparent "go" connections. Uninstalled the network card, rebooted and it worked again.
I keep my updates off because NetFramework 2 wreaks havoc with a library program I have, so no NetFramework at all. And I've had no problems. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had similar problems? My wife had spent more than an hour on the phone with a tech support guy at Linksys and he had her setting up her notebook computer and changing its settings. When I got home, she was right in the middle of working with a computer that wasn't the problem. I guess this guy was paid by the hour because he was in no hurry to wrap everything up. But he told my wife that he works for several companies in tech support (real surprise there) and that MS "updates" create numerous "issues" I think they call them now.

My pc is so slow that it takes ages to play a song in wmp11. Ive used tools like ad-aware and registry mechanic, tune up utilities. But still no improvement. It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. And the processor is hogged, at the highest level, even though i killed many a startup processes.

My wife just got an Gateway M320S notebook with WinXP Pro, SP2. It also has a built-in wireless card. From the very first bootup, it took several minutes. First I thought it was the Norton Internet Security 2005 that came pre-installed, but when I disabled all of it's elements in msconfig, it doesn't boot any faster. I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router in my home, and the notebook has a built-in wireless card. The internal card is set for 802.11.b., and my router is set to "Mixed" (because I have a PDA that

I have a nightmare with my notebook which is installed with Norton Internet Security. On booting up the notebook, a triangular icon(inside with an exclamation mark or an X)appeared on the bottom right bar. The icon appeared with a message to warn me of spyware attack. On clicking the icon, it took me to IE for http://www.spylocked.com/?aff=334 or http://www.wayofprotection.com/soft/. I also found my IE is installed with a 'Security Toolbar 7.1'.
In the Control Panel, I found a program 'Internet Explorer Secure Bar' which I wanted to delete. However, once I click the 'change/move' button to delete the program, it required me to reboot before deleting but on reboot, no deletion of the program took place. I want to know how to delete the program.I also want to know how to delete the icon on the right bottom.

I had Windows ME and upgraded to XP via the upgrade disk. All went well and I was asked to uninstall Norton Internet Security before installing again to take "make it work again" in the new environment.I am trying to reinstall but for some reason, the NAV install window keeps telling me there is an existing copy of NAV that I have to remove before I can install again.I've searched through the normal areas but am having no luck. These include the Add/Remove facility, Windows Explorer, and the Search facility.
