I have a problem with my taskbar. I accidently changed it and it seems I fixed it. But now, whenever i open up a program, it shows that program two times on the taskbar. It's annoying and wastes up space on the taskbar.

How to show the built in CPU meter which is part of the Windows Task Manager every time you boot or switch users.1. Do a search for taskmgr.exe2. Right click and select Send To - Desktop (Create Shortcut)3. On the taskmgr shortcut that is on the desktop right click and select Properties - Change the Run Command to - minimized.4. Rename the shortcut to "Task Manager" or "CPU Meter" and right click and cut the Shortcut.5. Paste the shortcut into the startup folder by right click on the start menu - Select All Users - Programmes - StartUp. You should see the Meter in the system tray. If not then:6. View 9 Replies View RelatedI seem to be having problems as of late with my computer. for the past 10-15 days when I startup my computer sometimes Windows will load and other times it won't. I don't even get the privledge of the blue screen of death, but rather then brown green screen saying Windows failed to start. Usually it takes 3-4 tries before Windows successfully loads, but it seems to be getting progressively worse. I haven't installed any new software or modifiied any configuration details within the last 30days. I even tried a system restore point of about a month ago and I continue to have this problem.
I threw in my XP cd for a re-install but it says my version of windows is newer then the one on the cd, and after thinking about it, if this is a serious problem, having to re-install windows, all of my drivers for my 3rd party hardware and then update everything might not be worth the effort if I can just get a new computer. I have been pondering for a while of purchasing a mac for my next round of computer purchases so if it comes down to that, hardware and software costs from my current system are not a major issue. So is my computer just slowly dying like a used car, or what might be the problem?
I am working on a machine where the machine boots up fine. I log into XP Pro SP2 and it starts to load but never finishes. I have a wallpaper but icons and no taskbar. The only I can open the task manager and try to start the explorer.exe process, but it never starts. It does the same thing in safe mode. I have cleaned some trojans, spyware and a ton of adaware by slaving the HDD and ran a defrag. I performed a CHKDSK /r using BARTS's PE and it fixed a few errors. I then ran a sfc /scannow. I updated all windows updates. I ran a repair on XP. I checked the startup and found nothing suspious. When I go into the add remove programs it locks up the PC.

View 8 Replies View RelatedMy browsers, particularly IE (6) dont always respond when I try to open them. With IE about half the time when I click the icon nothing happens. If a then check task manager IE is indeed running and taking up about 14K of memory, but it never opens. If I try opening it again another instance will just open under task manager and nothing will show up. Now if I end all the IE processes in there and then start IE again it'll be fine. But I need to get this fixed.

The strange part is they do on my other PC's.If I start Word I don't see word.exe if I start some games I don't see their *.exe's I find it to be strange that htings aren't being listed in here. Uninstall and reinstall of offending softwares is not changing anything.Mind you Process manager is not empty it has a fair amount going on... just some never show up.Also no rhyme or reason as far as application opening times I can start up word first and it not show up but then start up internet explorer and see the iexplore.exe.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI get an error message saying that An exception occurred while trying to run " "C:WINDOWSsystem32mfyuv.dll" DllGetVersion", only the .dll file is a different one each time I reboot the system. And I can't find any of the .dll files online at all. Not only that, but when the computer is starting up internet explorer is using up all of the memory, even though I can't see anything on screen. This slows everything down and I have to turn it off using the task manager to give enough memory to the System Idle Process.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Winodws XP on a Compaq nc6120. I opened my laptop today to get it working and clicked on Google Chrome's shortcut, and nothing happened. The hourglass cursor came up and it stayed that way for about a half hour, then I tried to turn it off and back on the same thing keeps happening. I have also tried other programs. The task manager doesn't show up and the start bar does not even respond. I ran an HDD self-test and it said that all tests were successful. I use Avast Anti-Virus Free, and tried to download Comodo, but something went wrong, this was the day before theses issues started happening. I'm not very intelligent when it comes to 'under-the-hood' problems with computers, so I have no idea what could be happening.

When I try to open a file using Open with by rght clicking a say, a JPEG image file, earlier I used to see the Photoshop Cs2 as an option. But now, I not only do not see Photoshop listed as an available program option, even when I select browse and go to the program folder and select Photoshop.exe for opening with, the image does not get opened in the Photoshop.

View 14 Replies View Relatedi bought star wars battlefront 2. my swbf2 disk broken (broke disk #2). the good thing is that i could still play with disk 1... until i got a virus and had to clean install windows. luckly b4 that happened i burnt all the swbf2 data to a dvd. now i copied everything from the disk to E:programfileslucasarts starwarsbattlefrontII (its an external harddrive) but it doesnt show up in the add remove thing. i heard that the windows registry handles things like this, so how can i update the registry to show swbf2 installed? i have windows xp sp2.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI noticed that my screen saver was never running ever after I left my computer unattended for several hours. This is not the problem, but a sympton of what I believe is the main issue. Every couple of minutes a box pops up on my task bar for about a second and then disappears. There is no text in the box so I have no idea what it is. I assume it is some application that is either trying to run or set to check for something periodically. That's why the screen saver is not running I guess. I there anyway to find out what is causing this. I've run Norton Antivirus (clean) and Microsoft Anti-Spyware and Spybot (also OK). I've look at my Task Manager and didn't see anything unusual there. I ran MSCONFIG and disabled any applications (other than system apps and ones that I was familiar with). I cleared out my "Startup" folder. I don't know what else to do to track down this rouge application.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm not able to open the task manger or it only stays open for a few seconds and closing. Even HJT gets closed after a few seconds. Both actually works right after the computer boots up but shut down in about 30 seconds. I was able to run a scan before it shut down.

For some reason, I have a blank program flashing accross my task bar. It is a box with blue accross the top and white on the lower part. It also occurs when I initally boot up my PC. It occurs so quickly and randomly that I haven't been able to click on it to find out what it is. It also is preventing my PC from going to screen saver mode.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWell today I suddenly started having problems and you seem to know what your talking about so I thought I'd ask you.I ran a Trend Micro PC-Cillin Scan and it found the worm, WORM_MUGLY.I which I am working on removing. The problem is that part of removing that requires you to open your task manager and view processes which I am not allowed to do. I tried to run regedit but it opened up to an ms dos window which in the title bar said regedit.com. I ran registry cleaner, ad aware, and spybot search and destroy but to no avail.
