I don't know if this is on any other site.I was just bored and noticed my shift key was hard to press down.so i kept hitting it and i found out if you hit SHIFT 5 times a program called STICKY KEYS pops up.I didn,t find it that useful but its there.

I have turned this off in control panel and in the dialogue box that appears but it just keeps turning on and off randomly.I reset the sytem to an earlier date and that cures it for a day or two then back.I have rune three different virus checkers but they find nothing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to disable the Sticky Keys feature that makes a box open up when I hold down or repeatedly use the shift key. I am unable to access the settings to change this because of missign Accessibility options. Not only are they missing but the ones that are available at Start/Control Panel/Accessibility do not function. When clicking on an option a box appears saying "window could not find the file."I would like to reinstall my missing mircrosoft features but to start with I would like to disable sticky keys.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI was uninstalling a prog that had a trojan in it. I deleted the registry keys and such;manuelling removing it because the Explorer.exe would shut down every time I tried to do it the old fasion way Wink So, I was going through, and I accidentally deleted the Uninstall registry key Which has led all the installed progs to not show up in the Add/Remove Programs gui that's in Control Panel.And so, I am wondering if I have to wait until tommorow to do this, when I have the windows cd. Or if I'm able to just do some other recovery.I restarted and held down F8, and did the "Last known good configuration" thing, but it said I had to replace hal.dll.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI seem to be having problems as of late with my computer. for the past 10-15 days when I startup my computer sometimes Windows will load and other times it won't. I don't even get the privledge of the blue screen of death, but rather then brown green screen saying Windows failed to start. Usually it takes 3-4 tries before Windows successfully loads, but it seems to be getting progressively worse. I haven't installed any new software or modifiied any configuration details within the last 30days. I even tried a system restore point of about a month ago and I continue to have this problem.
I threw in my XP cd for a re-install but it says my version of windows is newer then the one on the cd, and after thinking about it, if this is a serious problem, having to re-install windows, all of my drivers for my 3rd party hardware and then update everything might not be worth the effort if I can just get a new computer. I have been pondering for a while of purchasing a mac for my next round of computer purchases so if it comes down to that, hardware and software costs from my current system are not a major issue. So is my computer just slowly dying like a used car, or what might be the problem?
My Norton AntiVirus just upgraded from v2008 to v2009.Several weirdnesses ensued:
1. At the Windows Welcome screen, arrow keys could move the user selection up & down, but no alphanumeric keys made any visible entry (dot) in password field. Clicking Shut Down and restarting corrected this (for now, anyway).

3. In Control Panel, User Accounts lacks "Change the way users log on or off"! [Is XP SP3's REAL purpose to hose up a nicely-running XP SP2 box, so the owner will FINALLY spring for a Vista system?]
4. Clicking any of the "Learn About." links opens the help page in IE7, but with its contents crowded to the left and the yellow bar at the top. Clicking to allow blocked content (Are you sure? YES!) results in yet another dialog about an ActiveX control that "might be unsafe" but the only new ActiveX control on this PC is one from Symantec, installed during the NAV 2009 upgrade. NAV 2009 was the FIRST product I've run into that did NOT permit its EULA to be selected, printed or saved. I like to keep a record of things I've agreed to, but that text was out of reach! Sixteen screenshots later.
I inadvertantly switched on sticky keys. I have since switched it off but my backspace, arrow keys and Fn keys no longer work.

A light on the front of the PC begins an unending cyclic blinking. Playing a video on the internet results in interrupts in the video and sound synchronized with the blinking. The Solitaire card game has interrupts when cards are dealt. Typing is sticky in MsWord 2007 The blinking and sticky PC performance can be ended by reinstalling the backed up registry and rebooting.
Lately I have been having an issue with my cursor movements. I have an IBM Thinkpad Z61m. When this intermittent problem happens I cannot move the cursor smoothly across my desktop using either the trackpoint stick, glide pad, or USB mouse. The cursor may move or not move initially, but if it moves it stops as though stuck. I can move it again but invariably it will stick at some point. It makes it very difficult to get the cursor where I want it. I seem to fall short or overshoot. Things I have noticed that may offer a clue: When the "sticky cursor issue is happening I notice (in Task Manager) that my CPU usage is high, like 50% and higher. When this issue is not present it ranghes from zero to maybe 7 per cent.
If I am listening to audio or watching video both will start stuttering. The audio makes sounds like a machine gun, like "dat, dat, dat, dat, dat." I have also seen the blue screen of death warning me that Windows has detected a problem ans is shutting down to prevent damage to my computer. Its hard to remember all that was written on the BSOD, but I seem to recall a reference to IRQ. I use a Sprint Mobile Broadband card (Merlin S720) and thought maybe this device or its software was causing my "sticky" cursor issue, but it doesn't appear to be the culprit since I removed the card and closed the software application.
I accidentally deleted a very important folder using the trick, shift + delete. Is there any way to get it back?
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy laptop (a Dell D620) has developed an annoying issue.Ever since I connected a projector into the spare VGA output on it the desktop icons move whenever I close the lid down during use or before its completely shut down.The projector was running at 1024x768 as an extended desktop, and I have since checked all the settings in my display properties and NVidia settings, but nothing seems to be wrong there.
View 12 Replies View RelatedWhenever I point to some files in Windows Explorer or similar program a yellow "sticky note" displays with either the filename or occasionally a summary of the details of the file such as Date Modified, Size etc. I find it really annoying since it covers up an area such as other files etc.I have tried "Disable Notification Area Balloon Tips in Windows XP" and "EnableBalloonTips" registry entry is already set to '0' plus I even recreated and still no go...still appears. Does not appear on every file but once in a while it will happen/
A host computer, windows xp, plugged directly into a satellite modem (Internet) and ONE client computer.
I had to configure my IP addresses manually, but the host ends in "2" and the client in "3" at the end of the IP string.
So - from the client, I can
1) See the Internet fine
2) Ping the host fine
3) Ping the root host (1) fine
From the host I can
1) See the Internet fine
2) When I ping the client, it returns REQUEST TIMED OUT
Both computers are members of the same group.
Both seem to connect fine to the Internet at all times, no problems.
The host computer, sees ITSELF, in that, if you map a drive, and you click on Microsoft Windows Network, then the group name, you SEE the computer name.
On the client, when you click on the same group, it stalls, and you see NOTHING - neither the client NOR the host (despite being able to PING the host)
The Windows firewall is TURNED OFF on both machines.
What do I do to resolve "Request Timed Out"?
The client is attached to the network via a Belkin Wireless Adapter, which seems to work and connect PERFECTLY.
From the client, you can ping the client,(itself) and it responds.
My computer freezes at least twice a day. Sometimes when i leave it on for quite some time, it freezes. At other times it just freezes while i'm doing some work. Just now the computer restarted by itself when i was running some programs (matlab, excel, bitcomet, zone alarm). I have to restart my computer manually everytime. I'm using Windows XP SP2, Zone Alarm Pro, BitComet, Prevx, McAfee. I've already checked my power option (hibernation disabled, never turn off monitor or hard disks and never standby).
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have been looking into this computer restarting. I have downloaded recent drivers and updates. I looked at Microsofts suggestions. After the bsod if comes back up and the error reports says they are not sure what it is but it has something to do with antivirus.
Here is the event. It seems to happen whenever they are playing games or online. sometimes they will just go back to the desktop and the program will close.
I just completed my first computer build and everything went fine, until i had to install windows. I am using Windows XP with SP2 its an oem version, and i am getting the asms problem. The only problem is, i can't use the microsoft solution because of the fact that my keyboard and mouse are not functioning when the problem goes off. I can't figure out how to just start the installation over and i don't really know where i should go from here. I hear that getting a new cd drive may help, i'm using the ones from my old computer. I also hear to borrow a windows disk and use a different disk.

I alway zero in on Startup check or unch0eck something and leave it at that.Tonight I noticed a tab marked "service" and investigated. There are lots of entries, all checked off, and many of them refer to programs long since deleted. What are these entries, can I uncheck some of tjhem, eg the ones belonging to programs long ago deleted? And most important why is this section separated from startup?

i think there is a problem with the pagefile allocation because i have found that the drive check takes place of that drive on which the pagefile is allocated.
I'm not sure whether this is a hardware or software problemBasically at random times my computer just seems to lose power and shuts itself off. Ive have taken it too computer shops and had it looked at, they have done various things like change motherboard etc and none of that has helped. The last piece of advice I had was that it was probably software related and the best way to fix it would be to simply wipe the system and start from scratch but if possible id like to avoid that.Sometimes the PC will stay on for 4/5/6hours at a time and run fine, other times after just 5 minutes it will shut itself off. Then when I try to turn it back on it won't switch on unless it is left for a while.
View 12 Replies View RelatedLately it has been going super slow I have been trying to play my sims 2 game which was working fine until I installed the Sims 2 Pets. which seems to have trouble running on the computer. However the computer had been running slow previous to all of this. It had also been restarting itself at random times which we thought was because of the video card as the fan is humming and vibrating making all kinds of weird noises. I have now deleted all unecessary programs and uninstalled all of the sims programs. I have also ran two different anti virus programs whilst in safe mode which did not pick anything up each time. As of now it is running pretty efficiently but I can not do anything with it when i open IE6 it will load Google but no other pages.it just doesn't work it stays open sometimes when IE6 freezes the whole computer freezes and I have to restart by using the power button.

It sporadically moves from place to place and at times is completely unresponsive. The weird thing is that every once in a while, the power on the mouse completely turns off (no light coming from it). I am certain the USB mouse works as it has been tested in another computer.

I scanned many times with: AVG - SPYWARE DOCTOR - MICROSOFT MALICIOUS SOFTWARE DETECTOR - all of which thought everything was fine, until I installed spybot search and destroy which picked up on 8 malware problems and sorted them. I scanned with AVG again and that found 3 problems/viruses to do with microsoft office containing macros which were vaulted.
