I have hidden folders on my computer that I want to view. The odd thing is that it is already selected as view hidden folders in the folder options menu. No matter how I change the settings it is stuck on show hidden files, but it does not show them. I have also tried to restore defaults and it sets it to show hidden files. I pretty sure that show hidden files is not the default.
View 7 RepliesI am running Windows 2000 Pro and it was working just fine yesterday. This morning I go to turn it on and it's stuck on the loading your personal settings screen. It acts like it's about to load and than it restarts and does the same thing over and over.I did read somewhere that it probably has to do with a corrupted file in my settings...but since I'm the only one who uses the computer I don't have it set up to have more than one account setting. I can't even go into safe mode..the same thing happens. I did try to go to last known good configuration and that didn't do anything. It there a way I can log on without loading my personal settings? I can't think of anything I did yesterday that would cause this problem except that I ran a spy ware scan with SpyBot and it deleted a few bad things. I also don't have a Windows boot CD since my computer was built by someone and he didn't give me the CD.

When I get to the log on screen, and click my user name (the only one available) it gets stuck on "loading personal settings".My first reaction was to boot from CD, at which point I could not get my USB keyboard to work during the boot which made it impossible to "hit any key to boot from CD", so I fixed that by plugging the keyboard into the default keyboard port with an adaptor.
When I managed to boot from CD, I tried to do a repair install and got the message "Setup cannot find Hard disks bla bla cannot continue, windows will restart".
What is the "Temp" folder for which is at C:Documents and Settings Admin Local Settings Temp? Nothing seems to appear there while I use IE to browse.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThere is a Temporary Internet Files folder literally STUCK on my desktop. There was another listed under My Documents > When I tried to delete that one, it deleted. So then I tried to move the folder on the desktop to My Documents with no success. "Access Denied", or "In use by another user or program. Close all programs and try again." I tried to "Send" the folder to another location on the computer with no success. Also tried deleting it and cutting and pasting it some where else, that also did not work. Temporary Internet Files folder's properties: General Tab > Attributes: Read only box is checked and grayed out.

I need a way to apply the view settings (ie, thumbnail, details, list icons etc) to only folder 1 AND all the sub folders without it affecting Folder 2 and 3. Also, is there a way to apply the type of columns for the folder when using the details view.
Trouble remembering my folder views/settings. For example, I can set my folder to view Tiles or List or Details, but when I go back, it resets the view to what Windows chooses. Also, my quicklaunch bar won't remember the order of icons. After I change which icons I want where, it resets after a system restart.
So far, I have already tried deleting the BagsMRU key from the registry to reset the folder views. Also, I have already played around with the "remember folder settings" option in folder views. I have also tried a program called MRUBlaster to reset the settings. And, if I choose "set all folders to this view" setting, it works, but if I change the view later, it won't remember it
I am running Windows XP Home version 2002 with SP3 and cannot connect to the internet with 2 of the User Accounts. Account No 1 No problems Account No 2 IE freezes whenever I try to connect to the internet. Account No 3 I set up this new account to see if a new account would have the same problem connecting to the internet as Account No 2. It does. On checking both Accounts I found that the Documents & Settings folder is missing. In Account No 1 it is present. Had same problem as some past threads regarding recalling folder view settings. Followed that advice and deleted the recommended registry lines + applied Kelly's BAG Limit fix. Reset individual folder views/settings and these now saved OK. EXCEPT as follows:Through My Comp I open Drive C: and window opens at size/pos saved but does not remember that I set VIEW/FOLDERS for a split pane.If I then continue and expand, say, My Documents, or any other folder which has had its view defined and saved, then close current window, the next time I open a folder from my desk top (eg My folder, Download, etc) it opens at the size and view settings of the "Drive C:" window. I can then reset that window view again until I repeat steps above when it is again lost.

I have the events setup as the subfolders names. I do not like to use Folder Task to set my view settings, and instead of changing the view settings one by one in each of the subfolder, is there a fast way so that I can apply the same folder settings to all my subfolders in "My Pictures/Digital Camera" without changing other folder's view settings?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a used laptop and have removed all of the previous owner's data. I have created a new user. I have changed the owner's name in My Computer and in the registry. Everything works well and I can find all my new files in My Documents as I expect. However in C:Docs and Settings there is a folder with the old owner's name. XP will not let me rename it or delete it and says it is "a Windows system folder and is requred for Windows to run properly". Apparently some part of XP is still using some files/folders in the old owner's name folder. How can I get around this so I can clean up my disk and delete the old owner's folder?

They wanted me to reformat the drive (and lose all my work). Instead I installed XP onto my secondary drive and nenamed it "C", set up a special partition on my secondary drive to receive the old files ("D") and renamed the "bad" drive to "G". Though I can access/copy most files from "G" onto "D", my "Documents and Settings/Administrator" directory on "G" (not password-protected, but contained a lot of files) are all "access-denied". I can't open/view these files on "G" or even copy them to "D". If I try to open them, I get a "files inaccessible, access is denied" msg.

It asks me if I want to unhide just the folder or all files and subfolders, I do all files and sub folders. Now everything under the F:Documents & SettingsLen" directory cannot be accessed. If I look at the "Len" directory and all of it's subdirectories on the second drive "Make this folder private" is not check so I don't understand why I can't read it. In fact the "Make this folder private" is not checked. If it helps any the drive is an NTFS drive.

View 5 Replies View RelatedThe partition C, where Windows XP is installed, became too small. Often XP crashes with the blue screen (BSOD). I already, successfully, moved the system folder "My Documents" to another hard drive, to give space, and changed the registry accordingly.
That was two years ago. Meanwhile, my space is again too small, somehow everything seems to grow on that partition. I need to give space again. I tried to copy the system folder "Documents and Settings" to another partition before making any registry change. But i cannot copy, XP reports an error saying that "NTUSER cannot be copied. The file is being used by another person or program". I also don't find any variable inside the registry pointing to that system folder.
I had just reverted my computer from Windows Vista to Windows I didn't have to use a boot disk (though I obtained one) and Windows XP Home SP2 started up normally. What I did notice was that the Documents and Settings folder was (and is) completely empty, and I can't access it. So, I can't access "All Programs", My Documents (from the Documents and Settings folder), and the wallpaper is blank. I have the Documents and Settings folder in Windows.old, but apparently that didn't transfer successfully back to the C: drive. Is there any way possible that I could redirect the Documents and Settings folder to the one in the Windows.old folder? What about forcing the computer to replace it
View 4 Replies View RelatedI found images in Windows Picture and Fax viewer that I want to delete. I can delete them one-by-one, but that takes time. I went to Disk Cleanup up and deleted all Temp and Temp internet files, but the images are still there. I checked Properties of the images for the file names, went to Win Explorer, but only found C:Documents and Settingsuser, there was no subfolder for Local Settings and, obviously nothing after that. I did a Search in Explorer, including hidden files and folders, for the file names and the searches resulted in nothing. I am back to deleting one-by-one, but my concern is, Where did everything from Local Settings on go to. BTW, I also run Skybot, Adaware and Norton virus weekly
