When my computer starts up, there are pink stripes running down the screen. I have to restart the computer a couple of times to make them go away, and I can't use the computer with them there. How do I make them go away for good without restarting the computer a lot??

I am running XP Home on a HP PC with pentium 4. A couple of days ago I developed a soft pink and green surround on the monitor screen, heavier at the screen edge and fading to nothing an inch or two from the edge, normal colors within this area. I have tried variations in settings, resolution etc but nothing I have changed has affected the problem.
Suddenly WMP plays wmv files with everything in blue and pink, sound is okay and all other file formats playback okay. Has anybody found a viable solution for this one?
I have so many / too many programs running at Start up. Messenger, Winzip, winamp, etc, etc.How can a stop them from running at startup of my computer and also which ones are safe to stop running at the start up?
I have an intel pentium 4 running on windows XP.My computer is terribly very slow! I have performed full scans with mcafee, but I might have malware or viruses.
Two files occasionally start running which tie up large amounts of CPU capacity. Checking thro Task Manager these appear to be
MSMSG.EXE which i assume is microsoft messages of some form but no message is actally on screen the other is VSMON.exe which is part of the Zone lab firewall, they only activate sporadically and when I am on the Net but they show cpu usage at 80%+ so everything freezes. When they are not active the cpu runs at around 15%.
When i turn on,first Windows screen appears, then a blue screen blinks, then hp screen, then a blank page with cursor on the top left, then a screen with the message"we apologise for the inconvinience but Windows did not start successfully.there was a hardware or software problem.I tried to run it in Safe mode, Windows normally, last known configuration but no luck......Then someone suggested to Get into the Recovery Console by making a Recovery CD with ISO image but the machine is not responding to any of it.Is it with CD/DVD ROM drive or any major hardware problem???...I ran a self hard drive test and it seemed fine
I was playing a game and I rebooted my computer. When i went to start it it went to the a blank blue screen before the account screen in the beginning of XP. I know i can restore to new but i will have lost so much information that it would take about 3 months to retain it all back. It says it can not find operating system. I need help in a serious way. all advice and solutions are requested.
When I start the computer, it asks if for the choice of Safe Mode, w/ Networking, w/Command Prompt or Normally.
I've tried them all and if I try it normally, it won't get past the XP loading screen. It's loading and then it flashes a blue screen for a second and then restarts the computer again.
I tried pressing F8 at boot and selected 'Disable automatic restart on system failure' and this is what I get
I even tried using this http://forums.techguy.org/6669592-post28.html to get to chkdsk At boot, F12, chose CD/DVD, but still nothing, I even tried disabling boot from +HDD, FDD and LAN from the bios setup menu to see if it works and this is what I got, it just keeps going on and on unless I enable boot from +HDD
I was just typing along in a word document when my whole screen on my laptop flipped. File, Edit etc are across the bottom and start and all those things normally across the bottom are on the top - but upside down. The mouse is working backwards as well. MAJOR PAIN. When I restart it, the Windows screen comes up correctly but from the login screen on everything is flipped. I just use that computer for word processing not the internet so I'm hoping it is not a virus. I tried restoring the system
I start up my laptop with the screen closed. When I open the screen I see the XP login screen for a second and then the computer goes black. I can't do anything else.I have Windows XP Home with the service pack 2 (I regret installing it).I never had any problems before. If you know how to fix this let me know.
A while ago i maximized console window while it was running, and it just stayed that way.Now whenever any programs run any console commands, my whole screen starts blinking since the windows are opened and closed, forcing my monitor to switch between resolutions at a really high speed
there are thousands of blue lines on my computer screen running up and down, they move when I type, etc. It looks kind of like a bunch of barcodes all across my screen if I could compare it to anything. My computer seems to run fine even with them on the screen. I thought my video card may be shot but when I tried starting my computer in safe mode this lead me to believe that this may be a virus or trojan.
So basically the computer I'm on was loaded with spyware so I decided to use Spybot to get rid of it. After running it it told me I needed to reboot to remove the rest of the spyware so I did. I got to the windows login screen and after logging into my screen I'm immediately met with a blue screen that flashes for about half a second and then goes to restart the computer. The only way that I can actually get into windows without it crashing is by logging in with safe mode.
This computer had win98 SE, it kept dying, the screen would go black, but the computer was still running. Had to reboot several times before it would load windows again. It seemed it would do that when the computer was running a while. I checked the processor fan and it is working. I finally decided to reformat and load XP Exeutive. It loaded fine, but when I go to do windows updates, it freezes and gave me errors # OX8024402C and OX80072EE2. Then it will just die again, Screen goes black, nothing there, but you can hear the computer box still running. I don't know what else to check.
Last known stable drivers for ATI are Catalyst 5.2. which I use right now. I installed Catalyst 5.4 and I get blue screen with STOP message at the far end of installation procedure. I uninstalled previous drivers of course. Then I tryed again end same thing happens. After that I can see that all graphics are normal in games, exepct there is no sound at all, computer is REALY slow working in win xp and there are no optical drives in my computer menu-dissappered?!? After that I uninstalled 5.4 and installed 5.2 back again. Same thing but worse happened with 5.3 version. I updated BIOS, apertur size is default 64Mb (my graphic card is 9600xt 128Mb), fast writes are off, as same as caching and shadowing are off too. I've got Audigy LS and S-ATA 160Gb.
Pentium 4, 2.44 gig processor, 2 gig memory, XP Pro SP3. I have had recurring BSOD for 2 months. After running a mini-dump with BlueScreen View, the problem appeared to be a corrupted ntoskrnl.exe file. I rebuilt the Boot.ini file, which loads the ntoskrnl.exe file. Still BSOD crashes. I then purchased "Registry Booster", and ran that. Continued BSOD crashes. I can send a JPEG of the BlueScreen View if any one can help me figure out the cause of these random crashes.
Computer boots to blue screen after showing Windows splash screen and then immediately restarts. Windows Stop code 0X0000007E (0X80000003, 0X805C370C, 0XBACCB2B4, 0XBACCAFB0). Computer will not boot in safe mode or last known good configuration. I have decided that I will need to reload windows but have several very important files on hard drive that I need to get off first. As it stands, I have 2.5" drive loaded into external hard drive enclosure. Only problem is that 2.5" drive has drive letter of C: like every other computer I have in my house. Is there anyway to change this letter to view files via usb enclosure? Any way to change drive path of C: volume on any other computer?
While running about a week ago, the monitor simply quit displaying anything. Now, when I boot up the laptop, it shows the BOIS icons and the Windows XP splash screen, but when it should show the logon screen (I have two user accounts on the box) the monitor goes blank. I know the laptop is still running because after a couple of minutes the screen saver music starts to play, so it must be a monitor-specific issue.I've gone into setup and reset the boot sequence to no effect, took out the battery and rebooted to no effect and now am at the end of my limited hardware diagnostic abilities.
desktop was hijacked with a bright red screen that said "Your privacy is in danger" along with an insertion in top tool bar of 4 buttons that would fix this "danger. Have managed to get rid off fradulent tool bar and bright red screen. Now my desktop is all white and am not able to create any files there. Have run a number of scanners but the white screen still there. Running Windows XP with updates.
I am running Windows XP Home Edition, and I have recently been having frequent crash errors. Everything seems to be running fine and suddenly the screen goes blue and a long message shows that said that the computer is shutting down to prevent a crash.
My screensaver has never worked since I bought this computer (HP Pavilion 2.66 Pentium 4). I'm running Windows Media Cener Edition and set up a screensaver to go on after a few minutes of inactivity. Is it because I'm hooked up to a cable internet provider, or is it something
I'm using Windows XP Professional, an Intel P4 with 1.0GB Ram, nVidia GeForce FX5700 graphics card. Microsoft's Windows Defender Beta 2, Nod 32 Antivirus program and eTrust's Pest Patrol are running on my PC. I also have Windows Firewall running in the background. On starting the PC and before the Microsoft XP's welcome splash screen, I get a blank window. Not always, but 99% of the time. The only way I can close this window, is to click the OK button that appears on the screen. Clicking on the red X button doesn't help close it either. Once the window closes, the welcome screen appears and then the desktop with my icons, folders, shortcuts etc. appear and all is well with the PC. Most of the time the window is blank except for the OK button in the middle. On some occasions, a single file path(different each time I start the PC - examples listed below) can be seen on the dark blue band on top of the window and occasionally, inside the window:
