While running about a week ago, the monitor simply quit displaying anything. Now, when I boot up the laptop, it shows the BOIS icons and the Windows XP splash screen, but when it should show the logon screen (I have two user accounts on the box) the monitor goes blank. I know the laptop is still running because after a couple of minutes the screen saver music starts to play, so it must be a monitor-specific issue.I've gone into setup and reset the boot sequence to no effect, took out the battery and rebooted to no effect and now am at the end of my limited hardware diagnostic abilities.
My son has a Sony VAIO laptop running Windows XP SP3 which originally had Windows/NT on it. There are several issues with this machine including how it slows down to a crawl and kills Firefox so that it must be rebooted. I want to know this: there are several folders in the C:WINDOWS directory as follows
I am running XP on a Sony Vaio. Recently, every time we boot it up and try to start ANY program, we get the"Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. I would like to back up some docs, but have started it in safe mode with and without networking, and have been unable even to open Backup or My Computer to copy docs
The Vaio is about 3/4 years old now, and I just did a reinstallation of Windows XP to clean things up a bit. Before the reinstall, I managed to track down this page on the Sony Asia website (http://www.sony-asia.com/support/dow...subpage=detail), and downloaded all of the listed drivers onto a memory stick. Having formatted the disk and installed Windows, I installed the drivers in the order listed on the website. They all worked perfectly, except for the Realtek audio driver. No sound was played by the computer, and when viewing the sound preferences under the Control Panel, I was informed that there is No Audio Device.
I have a Sony Vio model PCG-3E2L. I tried installing xp on my sony computer that had vista on it. It continually blue screened during the very beginning of the install process. So, I decided to remove vista. I could not get vista to uninstall so I finally ran an older bootable windows like 98 or me which got me to dos. In dos I deleted and reset partitions. I did not format as format was not on the disk I used. Now, with a fresh hard drive I figured that xp would install but it won't. The computer boots by cd but again it continually blue screens at the beginning of the install process b/f it asks any questions but after loading drivers.
So I have a Sony Vaio PCG-VX88, and the hard drive has been clicking and the computer has just been acting weird. I can no longer start photoshop, when I ran Windows Spyware check and began deleteing the files it started clicking and after restarting I can't get it back to normal state like I could before. When I started it up it says "no opperating system found" (happend twice) then finally after the 3rd try goes and starts up, the last time I tried it did a check on the file system of the C: drive, will a reformat help Or is it a hardware thing
My Sony VAIO starts. It's plugged in normally. The power lights flash, it checks the CD-RW drive, and then remains on with the main power light on and the fan on, but the screen remains black and nothing else happens. Windows XP doesn't load. No Sony logo, no "Operating system not found," nothing. It's like it's had a lobotomy.I haven't installed anything new, and the notebook has just been sitting around unplugged for a few days. The last thing I used it for was to burn a CD with Windows Media Player. The only change I can think of is that my USB tablet isn't plugged in.
A family members sony vaio will not boot up, the computer doesnt load windows XP (The windows XP loading screen appears but will then goes blank and reboots automatically.) When the computer first turns on a blank screen appears with text saying "we're sorry for the inconvienice, etc..." then has a 30 second timer for which option i would like to choose. These are my options below (which none work). It doesnt work on Safe Mode, Safe Mode (Networking), Safe Mode (Command Prompt) or even the "last known to work configurations". Im totally lost on what i can do from here. I need assistence people!!
I have a problem with my laptop & it is really starting to do my head in. I got my vaio about 2 years ago, it was second hand, so came with no CDs. nIt has been running fine with no problems until this morning. It is constantly restarting, with a blue screen that flashes up momentarily.I saw something that someone mentioned about it being to do with the wireless, so I've switched that off, and it has stopped restarting. As soon as I switch it back on though, it goes back in to constantly restarting.I can't even seem to get into the menu to start with safe mode. I've tried to restore the system to when it was working fine, but this hasn't helped.
Recently my laptop is unable to boot up. The screen is blank and then frozen. I have to turn it off, unplug everything, and then wait for an hour to restart it again (and then it can boot up as normal). It all started last week after I installed Windows Media Player 10. I tried to restore the system back to a week ago, but the problem is still there.
Also, it always gives out a short "beep" sound after the laptop is ON for about 1 hour. Does it indicate that my mother board is having problem, or is it the hard disk?
My niece installed drivers for a Kodak camera on her HP laptop at the weekend. Everything seemed to go fine until she switched the machine on the next day, when it failed during the boot. She's reasonably tech competent so by the time she called me she'd tried all the safe mode options with no luck: it would get up to mup.sys in the boot and then reset. I did try to access the HP Recovery software, but it just comes up with a pale blue blank screen and a windows-style pointer and stops there.
Dell inspiron 510 laptop starts with dell logo XP logo and moving bar below then grey blank screen instead of users names only blank screen with moveable cursir used yesterday as normal except i did defrag
I'm using Windows XP Professional, an Intel P4 with 1.0GB Ram, nVidia GeForce FX5700 graphics card. Microsoft's Windows Defender Beta 2, Nod 32 Antivirus program and eTrust's Pest Patrol are running on my PC. I also have Windows Firewall running in the background. On starting the PC and before the Microsoft XP's welcome splash screen, I get a blank window. Not always, but 99% of the time. The only way I can close this window, is to click the OK button that appears on the screen. Clicking on the red X button doesn't help close it either. Once the window closes, the welcome screen appears and then the desktop with my icons, folders, shortcuts etc. appear and all is well with the PC. Most of the time the window is blank except for the OK button in the middle. On some occasions, a single file path(different each time I start the PC - examples listed below) can be seen on the dark blue band on top of the window and occasionally, inside the window:
I'm trying to reinstall XP on my Sony Vaio laptop after having to replace the hard drive. It won't boot from the CD - it just tells me that the operating system is not found. I had that much figured out. I'm no computer whiz, but it looks to me like the drive IS recognized in the BIOS. I even loaded the XP onto a flash drive and tried to boot from that.
i have a sony vaio model pcg572m , it`s quite old .anyway i had to reload windows xp on to it ,and now i can`t get a sound out of it ,i can`t find what make the soundcard is,plus i can`t find any drivers on sonys sites ,in sounds and devices it just says, no audio device
Computer boots to blue screen after showing Windows splash screen and then immediately restarts. Windows Stop code 0X0000007E (0X80000003, 0X805C370C, 0XBACCB2B4, 0XBACCAFB0). Computer will not boot in safe mode or last known good configuration. I have decided that I will need to reload windows but have several very important files on hard drive that I need to get off first. As it stands, I have 2.5" drive loaded into external hard drive enclosure. Only problem is that 2.5" drive has drive letter of C: like every other computer I have in my house. Is there anyway to change this letter to view files via usb enclosure? Any way to change drive path of C: volume on any other computer?
When I turn on the machine, the screen stay blank, no bios display, no windows boot logo, but the power light and hdd light flash away, AND once its up to the Welcome screen, the display kicks in and no further problems. She tells me it once did show a bios and Windows boot screen, and I can't seem to work out whats going on to blank the screen during this time. I can't even F2/F12 to a visible bios setup to see if its a setting, but I know its going in, because it stay blank forever
My computer is windows XP and Pentium 4. I had problems with booting the computer for a few months now and has gotten worst. When I press the reboot button, I hear the PC running, but the monitor is just blank. I had to click the reboot button MANY times before it starts, and whenever it does, I hear a beep sound and this green light flashes from the CD drive. After a few months later, I did it again but this time I don't hear the beep or see the green light flashing. So I figured out a way to make it work, and it was by clicking the reboot button like 10 times, then switching the back switch on the PC off, then turn it back on and reboot again once. So I was wondering if there's a problem with the monitor(about 9 years old),the graphic card(renewed it recently) or something else.
Very similar to the following problem but i do not have a raid, and it seems that this PC has a raid and i don't, plus it was never really determined what the actual solution was.
The basics: XP Professional Boot up screen, right before the windows loading screen, or direct after the F8 Menu if you hit "Start Windows Normally..." it will just lock up, no HDD activity, blank screen. now BSOD, nothing.
All 3 safe mods work fine.
Ran chkdsk /r in recovery. Ran proper fixboot procedure.
Went into safe mode and checked the event viewer.
The only concerning message i got was: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: AmdK8 Fips nod32drv
Formatting really isnt an issue since i can back up anything i need through safe mode. However its just the fact that the Windows gremlin has struck me again and i must defeat it once more.
I highly doubt this is a hardware issue as it is more of a driver/software issue.any help?
When i turn on,first Windows screen appears, then a blue screen blinks, then hp screen, then a blank page with cursor on the top left, then a screen with the message"we apologise for the inconvinience but Windows did not start successfully.there was a hardware or software problem.I tried to run it in Safe mode, Windows normally, last known configuration but no luck......Then someone suggested to Get into the Recovery Console by making a Recovery CD with ISO image but the machine is not responding to any of it.Is it with CD/DVD ROM drive or any major hardware problem???...I ran a self hard drive test and it seemed fine
I was playing a game and I rebooted my computer. When i went to start it it went to the a blank blue screen before the account screen in the beginning of XP. I know i can restore to new but i will have lost so much information that it would take about 3 months to retain it all back. It says it can not find operating system. I need help in a serious way. all advice and solutions are requested.

issue seems to be similar to: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt...o-startup.html http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt...p-problem.html but recommended solutions didn't help so far.

I have 5 year old Inspiron 1100 that I recently opened up to clean the cooling fan/heat sink. This was the first time I ever opened this laptop and was careful about doing it. When I reassembled/closed up, the laptop would not boot up. The power light is on, the fan is running, but no HD activity, no display and no lights (number lock, scroll etc). I removed the battery and tried it with same results. I even removed the ram modules and tried to boot with same results.
Recently my laptop has been running very slowly and I've noticed that the cpu usage is usually at 100%, even when most of the more memory intensive programs such as firefox and azureus are closed. Is this a problem with most lenovo laptops? I have a thinkpad T43p.
I have a 3 computer network. (A)Host running xp Pro. with printer using Netgear wireless router for internet connection. (B)a desktop running xp home with a printer, and a (C)laptop running Vista with no printer. all of the computers recognize each other when use "view workgroup computers. However, When I try and accesss files or printer of (A) from either (B) or (C), I get a message that path does not exist. I am printing from (C) using printer hooked up to (B). Cananyone tel me how to get a configured so that (B) and (C) can talk to it?
Hey my screen will go blank like it's starting up the screen saver after a few minutes on my PC. Then it will go back to what i was doing can i fix this?
There are 2 accounts in my XP Pro SP2 machine, one has admin rights, the other is limited. When I log into the limited account then log off, Windows does not return me to the welcome/login screen, instead it gives me a blank screen (my monitor, which uses DVI, gives me "No signal"). Pressing any key will not wake the computer. The only resort is to press the Reset button. I expect this to be either software or hardware incompatibility.
I tried to open an flv file in Winamp and XP froze up, and do not start up again except in Safe Mode. The XP splash screen comes up, but then the screen goes blank.
