I am running XP on a Sony Vaio. Recently, every time we boot it up and try to start ANY program, we get the"Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. I would like to back up some docs, but have started it in safe mode with and without networking, and have been unable even to open Backup or My Computer to copy docs

View 7 Replies View RelatedWhile running about a week ago, the monitor simply quit displaying anything. Now, when I boot up the laptop, it shows the BOIS icons and the Windows XP splash screen, but when it should show the logon screen (I have two user accounts on the box) the monitor goes blank. I know the laptop is still running because after a couple of minutes the screen saver music starts to play, so it must be a monitor-specific issue.I've gone into setup and reset the boot sequence to no effect, took out the battery and rebooted to no effect and now am at the end of my limited hardware diagnostic abilities.

I can no longer start photoshop, when I ran Windows Spyware check and began deleteing the files it started clicking and after restarting I can't get it back to normal state like I could before. When I started it up it says "no opperating system found" (happend twice) then finally after the 3rd try goes and starts up, the last time I tried it did a check on the file system of the C: drive, will a reformat help Or is it a hardware thing

It continually blue screened during the very beginning of the install process. So, I decided to remove vista. I could not get vista to uninstall so I finally ran an older bootable windows like 98 or me which got me to dos. In dos I deleted and reset partitions. I did not format as format was not on the disk I used. Now, with a fresh hard drive I figured that xp would install but it won't. The computer boots by cd but again it continually blue screens at the beginning of the install process b/f it asks any questions but after loading drivers.

Before the reinstall, I managed to track down this page on the Sony Asia website (http://www.sony-asia.com/support/dow...subpage=detail), and downloaded all of the listed drivers onto a memory stick. Having formatted the disk and installed Windows, I installed the drivers in the order listed on the website. They all worked perfectly, except for the Realtek audio driver.No sound was played by the computer, and when viewing the sound preferences under the Control Panel, I was informed that there is No Audio Device.

When the computer first turns on a blank screen appears with text saying "we're sorry for the inconvienice, etc..." then has a 30 second timer for which option i would like to choose.These are my options below (which none work).
It doesnt work on Safe Mode, Safe Mode (Networking), Safe Mode (Command Prompt) or even the "last known to work configurations". Im totally lost on what i can do from here. I need assistence people!!

Sorry for the inconvenience. in the middle of my screen It appears on boot and remains there .If I click close ,the desktop icons disappear and reappear and the message also reappears several seconds later,In those few seconds things seem to operate normally but after it appears, things on the screen just blink once when I click on them and nothing else happens. If I click something , and then click close on the message, it clears the desktop and reappears the previous click is then executed and the lockup is back .I can do things one at a time by repeating this closing process and the application on the screen does not close but reappears also

It then asks me to tell Microsoft about the problem and i have the option to either send a error report or not to send one. Either way, after choosing one windows explorer terminates and restarts itself. Then the same error message pops up. View 14 Replies View RelatedI just noticed this problem, but I'm not sure how long it's been going on because I seldom use IE. When I start IE the process iexplore.exe starts up, which is normal, but when I close IE, iexplore.exe keeps running, which is not normal. If I start IE again it will start another iexplore.exe, so I can have several running and the only way to stop them is to kill them with task manager. Now another thing I have happening which is even weirder is I'll start IE, then kill iexplore.exe and IE keeps running like normal. I've run all the anti-virus and anti-spyware stuff I can think of and everything comes up clean. I'm current with all Windows updates?

Being my usual, carefree self i managed to make the system go into one of those 60 seconds til shutdown. I opened cmd and aborted the shut down. I then saved what i was doing and shut it down. Turning it on this morning, all of the services are disabled and there is no option to re-enabe them, and everything seeems broken!

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows XP Professional, an Intel P4 with 1.0GB Ram, nVidia GeForce FX5700 graphics card. Microsoft's Windows Defender Beta 2, Nod 32 Antivirus program and eTrust's Pest Patrol are running on my PC. I also have Windows Firewall running in the background. On starting the PC and before the Microsoft XP's welcome splash screen, I get a blank window. Not always, but 99% of the time. The only way I can close this window, is to click the OK button that appears on the screen. Clicking on the red X button doesn't help close it either. Once the window closes, the welcome screen appears and then the desktop with my icons, folders, shortcuts etc. appear and all is well with the PC. Most of the time the window is blank except for the OK button in the middle. On some occasions, a single file path(different each time I start the PC - examples listed below) can be seen on the dark blue band on top of the window and occasionally, inside the window:

It was an Add-Ons problem but I can't seem to fix it.When I am in the original window of Internet Explorer and I click on a link that opens a new window. When I want to close the new window it will close down all of Internet Explorer and leave a Blank Page. Then it will want to report the error. It did not used to do this. It seemed to have started happening about the time I upgrade IE and they started the new tabs. I work online and I need it to stay open. I was running internet explorer 7 with no problems until I installed Norton 360, then all I get when loading IE is a message that Internet Explorer needs to shut down, "do I want to send error " When I click either send or do not send, Internet Explorer shuts down.
