Last night after the computer was running really slow i decided to close a few processes! Being my usual, carefree self i managed to make the system go into one of those 60 seconds til shutdown. I opened cmd and aborted the shut down. I then saved what i was doing and shut it down. Turning it on this morning, all of the services are disabled and there is no option to re-enabe them, and everything seeems broken!

View 8 Replies View RelatedI expected the whole thing to be shot considering what the case looked like. I ended replacing the case and basically rebuilding it to see what all didn't work. Well, it ended up booting up just fine! Thing is, for some reason it seems to be running very slow. It seemed too coincidental that RAM was suddenly getting chewed up, but I upgraded to 1G anyhow, as it really needed it. It's still very slow, and seems to get hung a lot. Upon doing almost anything, the CPU gets pinned at 100%. I ran a little CPU test utility, and it comes back that it is running at that right speed, but it shows CPU to memory transfer rate at 340M/sec., which seems really slow! I'm not sure where to go from here. Is it possible that the mobo is damaged but is still working, only slowly?

How do I find what is running to help speed up my PC, and also; which are essential? I have dial-up AOL. It's running like a horse-drawn computer. How can I get it up to at least steam-powered.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe problem is on a system running XP Pro. Windows boots very slowly into the admin's account with only the background image visible; the taskbar, icons, etc. never load. A runtime error appears after a while, which ends the explorer.exe process. Opening task manager reveals that only a handful of processes are runnning - svchost, crss, winlogon, and a few others that I don't recall. The only thing I can do is use Window+L to switch users and open things manually via the run function in task manager.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI went through all the processes listed in my task manager and I show 70 running.I checked them all out and most are "system" processes like svchost.ext and things like spoolsv.exe, etc.but a lot are for programs that I need running in the background (my virus software, mouse, keyboard, smiley faces don't laugh! and stuff like that) not to mention the programs I'm working in at the moment.I'm just curious as to how that compares to other XP users.how many processes do YOU have running right now? BTW, I have tons of memory so the all these processes never create slowdowns or other problems, so I'm not asking because I have an issue to resolve. This is simple a case of inquiring minds want to know!
View 11 Replies View RelatedMy PC has slowed down considerably, so I opened the Windows Task Manager and under "Processes" there are 101 processes listed. 53 of those processes are "iexplore.exe" The "Mem Usage" listed for these varies between approximately 14,000 K to 40,000 K. I have looked at the Windows Task Manager sometimes in the past and iexplore.exe certainly wasn't listed this many times. Should I end these processes, and if so, how can I keep this from happening again?

I was wondering if anyone could help me by telling me if this definitely is too many to run at once, and if there is some way I can post a list of the running processes and have someone with more knowledge help me get rid of some of them.

Also, some of the other running processes i recognize, i.e. firewall, IM, anti-virus, but some of them I don't have a clue what they are. View 13 Replies View RelatedI just bought a compaq presario laptop a month ago, and now it's having problems. Every time I turn it on for a few hours, it starts to run at close to 100% CPU constantly, even when I'm not doing anything. I check the running processes, no single process seems to be doing the thing. It would be Mozilla using 80% of the CPU power while tskmgr.exe uses 20% one second, then next second it would be explorer.exe using 50% of the CPU power while svchost.exe using 50% of the CPU power. Sometimes, the processes would show that System Idle Process is at 95%, while the performances tab would indicate that 100% CPU power is being used, which is absolutely confounding to me. End tasking processes don't work, it'll just be different processes or some imaginery process taking 100% of the CPU power.

View 14 Replies View Relatedi'm having a lot of lockup probs while playing call of duty multi. xp2400 gigabyte nforce, 512 corsair,maxtor 80 gig 7200 rpm.in task manager processes i'm running almost 120,000k is that normal ? is there a way to post my task manager processes readout?my hijack log is clean, running spyware blaster, avast a/v, roboform, zone alarm. and a temp monitor.case is clean and all 4 fans are working. heatsink is clean.core temp normally runs around 113 f but saw it get up to around 150 once.

(I'm sure there is, stopped looking after 45 minutes) It doesn't seem to slow my computer at all. I AM running quite a bit on here as far as spyware, virus scans, webshots, etc. It's also a media center 2004 computer with all the trim so there are quite a few windows processes on there. Even with AOL running, my computer is only using 430MB of RAM and I have 1GB.

For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. I don' know what file that is. there are two files that were not deleted: mon000.log and one named Dat.File pefib Perfdata Also ran ATF-cleaner

What process(es) are absolutely essential to leave running for computer to operate? And if the DAW software requires a process to run for use, will it "launch" that process upon starting the program?I have 45 processes running right now when I boot normally. I'm thinking of partitioning C: drive to be able to boot into "audio" mode where all but the most essential processes are stopped and therefore all resources are dedicated to DAW software. Never had to partition a drive before, I figure it's not all that hard.
