Enable To Repair Drives: Get Logs On Restart After Repair?

Aug 24, 2005

Problems started was when i updated my Zone Alarm firewall, windows works absolutely fine no problems what so ever, then next time i reboot it does the same, this time problems are non-stop until about 10% then fine from there on in, then when it finishes repairing the drive it gets stuck at repairing unreadable security descriptions date stream.

It also said whilst recovering orphaned files insufficient disk space to recover lost files. It stopped for a while then carried on. After scan disk it restarted and wouldn't load windows, just got stuck on windows loading screen forever, eventually 15+ minutes i pressed reset as there was no disk activity.

Made A Partition, Made It Active, Copied C: To It But Can't Boot

Aug 14, 2009

I have a 1terrabyte drive and I want to get my two older drives out of the tower. I made some partitions, I copied the c: drive contents to r: and I made r: active. But it won't boot when I romove c: as it doesn't see netdlr. Or is it netldr? LOL. At any rate, maybe part of the problem is that r: is now r:c:windows and not r:windows. But it took forever to copy this drive to r: and I don't want to do it again.I am using Cobian backup by the way.

Repair Function In Recovery Console / Hard Drives Do Not Show Up

Jul 28, 2009

This is an older Dell Dimension desktop pc. It is running a RAID configuration with 2 drives. When I try to do the repair function in the recovery console, the hard drives do not show up in the MAP commmand. Also they are not listed in the Windows setup. However, they do show up in the BIOS, but not available in the boot sequence.I am not that familiar with RAID, are the drives fried or is the system not able to recognize b/c of the RAID?

Desktop Started To Vanish Periodically

Sep 23, 2008

Recently installed a few software and removed other small things such as browsers and anti virus. At some point my desktop (XP-Pro) started to vanish periodically blinks and the cursor is lost from previous function. Any open folder closes and another thing the option to visualize the Show Hidden files does not work I re-installed the graphic card and respective drivers but did not fix the problem. I open the event viewer and check the periodically events and here they are: Application: EVENT_SHELL_RESTARTED System: The IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service service was successfully sent a start control.

Ive reinstalled the monitors drivers (I downloaded a new copy even though it was the same version, so I know my driver install wasnt corrupt. I have half a mind already to uninstall SP2

Had Vista Made Partition For SP2 / Something Screwed Up

Mar 9, 2008

About 4 months ago I tried to make a partition on my HD to install XP SP2 on it, while running Vista Business, which I installed on the laptop (it originally had XP), but something screwed up while making the partition and Vista was erased from my laptop and XP was installed on both partitions. When I turn on my laptop a boot screen comes on to choose which partition to boot up. I've always chosen the larger partition, I've never tried booting the other partition, I'm scared it will screw something up. All of my files are on the bigger partition, the one I always use. But I want to know how to delete the other partition so that there is only one partition and I can use the space on the partition I don't use at all. I want to do this without deleting my files if possible.

Fortunately, I still have a version of XP on my old HD and changed the boot order. The new HD with the screwed up theme is accessible in Windows explorer. How do I change the theme on that copy of Windows back to normal?

What I did specifically was:

1 - Right click on the My Computer icon to get to the Computer Name tab.
2 - unclicked the domain button and clicked the workgroup button for group HOME (this required me to "login" with my work username/password
3 - got the message that I had to restart to take effect, which I did.

Save The Changes - Made To Text Strings In The Registry

Dec 17, 2004

I have Windows XP home w/SP2 and I am buffaloed. I thought I was a knowledgable user, but I have been trying to stop a program from autorunning. I have deleted the value in the registry under the "RUN" key of H_KEY LOCAL_MACHINE, and CURRENT-USER, then I exit, and as soon as I open regedit again, the values are back like they were, ignoring my deletion. How do I save the changes I make to text strings in the XP registry?
I have administrator priveleges.I miss Windows 3.1, where you only had sys.ini and win.ini to fool with, and when you changed something it stayed changed.

Mapped Network Drives: Programs Unable To Find Drives?

Apr 20, 2006

I have setup a wireless network between two computers in my office and have installed some software that will automatically backup folders on each of the two computers. It work by backing up certain folders on computer 1 to the hard disk on computer 2 and vice versa.I also have a program installed on both computers that uses the data on computer 1.simplify the process of locating the data on my network I have created virtual drives using the Map Network Drives function in Windows. However; if I start up my computer and open these programs - they can not find the drives, I have to open My Computer first and double click on the drives before the programs will read from them. I am guessing that for some reason Windows is not connecting to these drives, even though I have set them to "reconnect at logon".

Cd And DVD Drives Paths To These Drives / Deleted From Windows

Dec 27, 2007

I recently installed the program registery fix and i believe it has caused my Cd and DVD drives or the paths to these drives to be deleted from windows as they do not show up in my computer. I have tried the options in the following list but none of them have helped me, i'm really stuck but i can't fix the problem.
- I've tried deleting the upper and lower filters but they are not in the selected registery.
- I've tried a system restore but i can't go back to a previous point before the registery fix install.
- I've tried unplugging the leads and restaring but this didn't help.
- I've tried microsoft guided help but it couldn't find the upper and lower filters.
- i beleive they are still listed in my bios but don't know exactly what i'm looking for when in bios.
I don't know where to go from here, i also run alcohol 120% a virtual drive software and the registery fix has had no affected on these drives but i'm wondering if this maybe why the program registery fix deleted my actual drives becasue of the virtual drives and replaced the paths to my actual drives but i'm not sure it's just a guess. I've deleted the virtual drives and tried the steps above but i've had no luck.

Norton Quarantined or deleted it and said no more further actions required. The install finished (windowblinds) and I tried a couple different skins and decided to uninstall it. Uninstalled with Revo Uninstaller

Many Removable Drives - Shifting Other Drives

I am using Windows XP Professional SP2 on an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe MB. I have 5 internal HDD's and 2 external USB drives, I also have 2 DVD R/RW +- Dual Density drives, a Zip 250 and an Orb 2GB drive. So far this year I have had to reinstall my Windows like 8 times and done about 4 Windows repairs! Each time I seem to get 4 extra removable drives added to my system. In Disk Manager they are listed as "Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device", I have changed Device Usage to Do Not use this device (disable) and also I have uninstalled each device. Unfortunately, each time I restart the computer, they come back, shifting other drives to another drive letter.

I know this is very vague, but has anyone had this problem?BTW, I just recently upgraded from NT 4.0 to Server 2003 Standard, and we've had tons of other little problems with permissions and the like. Is this the cause of the dissapearing drives?

I use an external USB HD and do weekly full and daily differentials with NTBACKUP. When my laptop HD crashed, I was able to easily recover 100% of my files (less XP restore points, of course).

Even in safe mode it says windows setup cannot proceed in safe mode it reboots.Kindly help me on what can I do now so that either i can get thru with the 'asms' file or is there a way I can revert back to sp2 and do any possible recovery so that I can go into windows and backup my files.
