I am trying to reload XP on a sony Vaio machine. First off, when it comes up with 'press any key to boot to CD' nothing works. I have done searches on this and have tried both PS2 and usb keyboards. I have also tried to access bios but nothing loads it.I have tried esc, tab, del, f1-f12 and no matter what, windows continues to load. I know the keyboard works because once windows loads, I can type. So this is an issue with the usb keyboard and bios I assume but I cannot get to bios to enable the usb support.
My PC has Windows XP and Linux operating together with GRUB boot loader. I have to reload XP, and when I insert windows OS CD, it encounters GRUB boot loader and hangs. How to reload XP... i.e. how to get past GRUB boot loader.
A family members sony vaio will not boot up, the computer doesnt load windows XP (The windows XP loading screen appears but will then goes blank and reboots automatically.) When the computer first turns on a blank screen appears with text saying "we're sorry for the inconvienice, etc..." then has a 30 second timer for which option i would like to choose. These are my options below (which none work). It doesnt work on Safe Mode, Safe Mode (Networking), Safe Mode (Command Prompt) or even the "last known to work configurations". Im totally lost on what i can do from here. I need assistence people!!
My computer has two physical drives with dual boot, Primary Physical drive having XP prof and Secondary physical drive having two partitions, one has Windows Vista Basic and the other partition for back up files and data. Everything was fine till I went for a reinstall of XP prof on the primary physical drive. After the XP prof reinstall I was not able to access the secondary physical drive, when I go in from the windows explorer, I can see the drive which used to have windows Vista partiton and I get a warning message that the drive needs to be formatted.
I recently purchased a notebook with XP Home SP@ proinstalled. I upgraded to XP Pro but had to do a complete intall rather than an upgrade because my xp pro update cd was older than xp home sp2. I now have a windows (xp home) and a windowsp (xp pro) folder.
Last year I installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my Dell Dimension 5000 running Windows XP Pro, giving me a trouble-free dual boot system until recently. Recently though, I've had problems with Windows being excruciatingly slow, some crashes, unexplained error messages etc - probably partly due to a load of unnecessary and now unwanted programs I've installed along the way. I would now like to start afresh with a clean reinstall of Windows - but am worried about possible complications with my Ubuntu installation and some horror stories I've heard about messing with the Master Boot Record. I do not wish to remove Ubuntu, and have had no problems with it.
Can I simply format my C drive and just install Windows again? Or am I rushing in where angels fear to tread? I have my Win XP Pro disk. I've reinstalled Windows in the past, but that was before I had installed Ubuntu.
I loaded SP 2 for XP home edition on my Dell insperion laptop and the machine slowed down. So much that it takes 24 minutes to boot-up. When I first got the laptop 96months ago)I was prompted to download SP2 I did and had the same problem. Dell walked me through restoring and said I should not install SP2.
I have had a weird problem of the keyboard not working during boot up -- except it WILL let me get into BIOS. And this is the ONLY time it will not work.A little background is in order, however. Previously, the keyboard stopped working, first during boot up, then totally. Then the mouse stopped working as well. Couldn't do anything at all.... The keyboard is a Micro Innovations, and I'd had it plugged into the PS/2, but I eventually found out that if I plugged it into the USB port instead (it goes either way), the keyboard would work. So, I went out & got a USB mouse, and it worked too. So I was thinking that the card was fried.Last night, I decided to boot it into Safe mode to run some scans. And it wouldn't boot into safe mode, just kept ignoring my F8 command, and going straight to Windows. I did find out that it WILL take my DEL command and go into BIOS, where the keyboard works just fine. So tonite I thought I'd try a repair, thinking maybe some files were corrupt. And it will not take any keystroke to boot from the CD. Again, I can still get into BIOS, though. And, as you can see, it is working fine now. This is how it started in the PS/2 port, when it eventually quit working altogether.
Today my computer went slow so i restarted it and from that point it kept doing the same thing: it starts, then the dialog where it asks u if to start normal or safe mode (but keyboard doesnt work) then after the 28sec it tries to load windows, but a blue screen is shown and then restart again. I put the reinstalation CD but when i get to the "To boot from CD press any key" i cant becouse keyboard is not working.
Alright the Problem is, when I start the computer the key board and mouse are working just fine both showing lights and I can access the boot menu and everything through the key board. But when windows boots up both the mouse and the keyboard go dead, and there is nothing I can do besides looking at the User Login Screen as I can not use ether my mouse or keyboard.
I've backed myself into a corner, now I need to pick your brains to get out of it. OS is XP Home sp2. Stopped booting, with error message about missing files,e.g.windowssystem32cp_437.nls. Repair did not work, so I ended up reinstalling XP, but in another folder, as I didn't want to lose settings etc. In "windows2", when I try to enter My Docs., etc on "windows1" it says "access denied". How do I get at "favourites, Docs etc on "windows1" I have heaps of genealogy files etc that I cant access.
This is symbol is showing instead of my line but to the left.Error loading C;windowsNVMCTRAY.DLL This specified module could not be found. After reloading Windows XP on a Dell optiplex GX270.
Had to format my hd, XP home edition was preloaded, only have a reload disc which does not sem to reload!I have the serial number for the XP which was loaded originally. What can I do? I tried to load XP pro from a system disk, it goes so far then stops.
I have a Dell XPS Gen 2 computer (3.2 GHz P4) in which I was running a striped RAID array (2x250). It had worked fine for about a year, when one of the drives failed (the original that came with the computer) so I thought it would be a good time to upgrade and change configuration, so I installed 2 new Western Digital SATA drives (500 GB). The computer recognized the drives and let me create a mirrored array, so I started reloading Windows. When I got to the F6 part I put in the floppy disk with the RAID drivers and now I keep getting this error messag The only other thing I've done to the computer recently was upgrade from 2 GB of RAM to 4 GB, but everything was working for at least a month before this happened so I assume it's unrelated.
While I wait to see if I get an answer on how I can fix my current problem, thought i would check on how I might completely relaod computer, just in case I don't get a fix. I have a HP Pavilion P3, it originally came with Windows ME, at a later date i installed an upgrade to Windows XP Home Edition. I have the original 3 disks (2 ea system recovery, and 1 application recovery), I also have the original XP Home upgrade disk with product key. I have already tried this once but it would not work-- I inserted disk 1 (hp system recovery) and booted the computer, after only a second or two the screen went blue and informed me the hard drive could not be found. I thought maybe it was because I was not using ME, so I installed the upgrade disk and booted. It began doing its thing then after loading several files it informed me of a windows error and it shut down windows.
The computer suddenly turns off - when I reload it I get the disc check routing kick in - sometimes there are some 'truncated file' messages - sometimes not.I've checked for viruses and full 'disc check' with no problems.I would say that there is no predictability to this happening - at least that's what I thought - but it happens 'solid as a rock' when I try to defragment my C drive.
Ok, here is the situation, I want to know is there a way to repair or reinstall windows like this http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt...l-windows.html Instead of booting with a XP Installation CD just putting in the cd and installing? Would a upgrade work? I use NTFS... The reason why I want to not boot with the CD is because I keep getting Verifying DMI Pool Data but instead of it sitting there forever like that, like most people, it shows the options like boot with safe mode or normal or safe mode with command prompt.
For some odd reason my Icons on the desktop refresh after losing some programs. Is there some way the 'system' may have lost the data? can this be restored in some way?
I had left my computer on logged in on Windows 7 and when i got back the computer was in a continuous boot sequence (starts to boot, then after about 4 seconds shuts down and then over and over again). I reset the power from the back and turned it back on and it started up but with a different boot screen (Dynamic Energy Saver Quad6 Screen lol) and not the "black" one that normally comes up. It happened again last night and I think it happens when I leave my computer logged on in Windows 7. The weird thing was that after I reset the power from the socket (which stopped the loop) and turned it back on, it had me still logged on as a user and everything was like it was before I had left (basically like hibernate, except that hibernate is disabled on my computer
When I try to boot my computer reaches the windows screen then restarts, and keeps repeating this. Sometimes it throws up a bad pool caller error and a bsod. It gives me a Stop code: 0xc2 (0x43, 0xc3af4000, 0x0, 0x0) Additionally my keyboard no longer works, at least during startup which is all I can access. True for both USB and ps2 keyboard. The numlock light can be turned on but that's about it. So I know the connection is working but the boards still don't work, which means I've been unable to get to safe mode or into bios settings.
Dell D 800 Laptop running XP SP2.Internal AND external Keyboards and Mouse NOT working after boot to XP. Can't enter cntrl/Alt/Del or anything to log in. Keyboard DOES work in Bios mode but is lost as soon as xp is loaded. Does NOT work in SAFE mode either because can't log in..(no Cntrl/Alt Del).I've tried repair and reinstall of xp but still does not recognize any keystrokes after boot to xp.
I have a friends PC, a gateway P4 2.6, winxp home. The mouse and keyboard up and died. He had a kvm switch, the electronic kind when it stopped functioning. I have tried usb, ps2 everything. The keyboard works on bootup, so I can get into bios etc... but when it gets to the windows screen, nothing. No mouse or keyboard. Safe mode is the same thing. Dont want to format and reinstall windows. On that note, I did try a repair, when it asks for admin password it wont accept it. Says invalid admin password.. The password IS windows admin password though. With no mouse even in safemode, and windows not accepting my admin password during repair,
I just finished assembling my new build. It boots and I can get to the BIOS. I even have it booting from the DVD drive so I can load Win XP.However, when I get to the Windows Setup and it asks me if I want to setup windows(press enter), Repair(some other key), quit(F3) my keyboard won't work. I hit "Enter" because I want to install XP and nothing happens. It is not responding to my keyboard strokes. This is strange because the keyboard works in the BIOS.
I just got a used xp.. its slow and i cant seem to get any thing to work on it like restore , defrag, and i cant get it to change from dial up to dsl. pls i really need some help im all new to the computer

My computer started slowing dow about a month ago. It got to where it took forever to load when I turned the computer on and even opening software took forever. Same with turning it off. It also hangs up on me. I can't even press Ctrl + Alt+ Delete to end a program when its not responding. I have to strictly turn the computer off just to get somewhere. I uninstalled and reinstalled Norton. I have the entire Norton system and catches nothing. It says all systems are working properly. I was asked earlier if I had ever put a music CD in the computer that was by SONY, and I can say that probably close to 20 over the 4 years that I have had it. I was told that SONY puts this "thing" on the CDs that transfer to your computer before you even hear the music so that you are penalized if you try to duplicate them.
My son has a Sony VAIO laptop running Windows XP SP3 which originally had Windows/NT on it. There are several issues with this machine including how it slows down to a crawl and kills Firefox so that it must be rebooted. I want to know this: there are several folders in the C:WINDOWS directory as follows
I have burned this little 15 MB movie I created w/PS3 and I have no problems playing it on any PC w/WMP Ver 10, but when I burn a copy onto a CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-, or DVD+ and try to play it in my new Sony DVD/VCR multi-format player, it won't play. The Sony supports regular CD's, DVD+ RW/+R, DVD- RW/-R, JEPG, MP3, etc, it's brand new. So who do you call Microsoft who created the PS3 software, Toshiba (new laptop w/awsome mulit-dvd burner drive), Record Now (software that does the burning) or Sony who manufactured the DVD/VCR unit (new). Each tech seems to want to brush me off on the other.Like, is there some simple switch or something I'm not doing that makes a big difference when I want this movie to burn to a disk to be played back on a TV?
