Trying to fix my friends computer thought I would be done in an hour or so but I ran into a retarded problem when trying to boot from the windows cd. Here is some information I know off the top of my head. If you have any input please let me know, I'm trying to get this done before tonight since its Friday

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I purchased my lap top from Dell 2.5 years ago I made a backup OS CD. The computer did not come with the xp disc. I need to re-install the OS now-computer is slow, sluggish and just acting down right weird. I know its time, so as I gathered up the gutts to do this but when I popped in the cd and began the process it asked for the key number. I dont have that because I made the disc. I just followed the directions when I bought the computer. Now what do i do? I would rather purchase and upgrade to vista but when I ran the program to see if I could, there were some issues, plus its getting old and needs more memory, ram etc. Sooo this is the next best thing untill I breakdown and get a new PC.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI can't get the streaming videos to work when viewing pages from the internet. I have installed QuickTime 7.0.3. Instead of seeing the videos, a faded QuickTime symbol with a question mark appears. I am assuming that there is a plug-in problem, but can't seem to get it to work. I tried reinstalling Macromedia Flash as well, but it does not install properly. I get an error message asking me to make sure I am connected to the internet, when I already am.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows XP home SP2 computer that has a Sony DVD RW DW-D22A that supposedly supports both -R and +R. Well I bought a stack of 100 Blank DVD-R and less than 1/2 way through the stack they turned into lousy DVD's. Both for DVD movies and data storage they wouldn't work. I would get this CRC check sum error message. I contacted the manufacturer and sent in a few samples and they replaced them - sent me two stacks of 50 - nice company. Well I just burned a data disc and my computer doesn't recognize anything being on the disc - I even get the "You have inserted a blank cd/dvd window" thing on my screen. I then tried to burn a dvd movie using a different program and that program doesn't even recognize a disc being in the drive (yes I did put in a fresh dvd before I started the program).
View 6 Replies View RelatedI had 8mm tapes professionally transferred to discs. Now I want to transfer the video from my disc to my desktop so I can use one of the movie editing programs. I have Windows XP. I was guessing that I had to copy and paste? When I try this I get an error message stating Windows does not support this type of disc. It is a regular DVD disc so I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

View 4 Replies View Relatedwhen i try to play news clips on msnbc.msn the player appears with the loading message at the bottom. it just sits there, but doesn't load and play the video. i can go to othe sites, ie, Internet, and it plays fine. i know this sounds like a missing codec, but it's hard to believe that ms wouldn't already have that codec loaded to play clips from msn. i can play them on my destop pc, winxp pro, wmp10, without additonal codecs. i upgraded the laptop to wmp11, but that didn't work, so i rolled back to wimp10.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just recently gotten a new computer which came with Vista. Previously what I have done with any new operating system I got was installed it into my old computer. However, I came to find out you can only have one computer assigned to each cd, unless I wanna buy another one, which is unecessary. I wanted to get rid of Vista and return to XP but the XP disc would not install because of multiple errors, such as missing ntldr.

When i add the cd it just repeats Disk Boot failure, insert system disk and press enter. Have wiped my hard drive before and haven't had this problem. The boot order is correct in the BIOS and i havent touched any cables.

So, i rebooted my comp and it says a file is missing or corrupt ( forgot what file something windows/system/config) and told me to repair it. and it wont let me use my windows xp disc. I set my cd-rom to 1st priority, im posititve my cd drives work, and the cd has only been used twice so im pretty sure it cant be that.

The ME files were erased from the desktop after installation of XP. After formatting I assume I will need an MS-DOS bootup disc to install ME; install ME and then upgrade to XP-Home. If my assumptions are correct how can I create a bootup disc for ME? I am hoping that someone has a simpler method than I have outlined.

When I look at the disc it looks like an ordinary XP disc, but when I put it in system it says PRESS ANY KEY TO REBOOT. View 5 Replies View RelatedMy computer crashed about a month ago and I had to use a recovery disc to restore my original system.. Everything works fine except when I boot up and following the Sony logo and Intel logo the following message appears "Press F11 for Acronis Startup Recovery Manager. Acronis fatal error Boot drive (partition) not found. Press Enter to try to boot your PC." Pressing enter boots up the PC fine but how can I eliminate the process? I had Acronis on both drives before the crash but it no longer exists.

It gave me a black screen with"bootmgr is compressed press ctrl+alt+del to restart" that could not be fixed fast because I had lent my Win7 to someone who is far from me at the moment.I had the brilliant ideea to install Windows XP (since I had the CD).Everything went well up until the point when, during the installation it told me that it couldn't copy a file from the CD and the option to skip or try again. I skipped it since "try again" didn't do anything. I thought it couldn't do much harm. I got to the blue screen with the green bullets, progress bar and 39 minutes left when I got this error that said that windows can't continue and restarts the comp.

I have a problem booting up my other PC, it's been happening quite often, sometimes it boots up but sometimes it just simply doesnt... it gets stuck with a message "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"
can anyone tell me what I should do to fix this problem?
i have recently downloaded boot editor and as it did not work the first time i uninstalled it, this was yesterday. Today i turned my pc on and the system speaker beeped and it didnt even show the first loadup screen that says energy at the top.

I'm looking to purchase a notebook and learned a XP Home CD or a Bootable CD isn't included. XP Home is already installed. Isn't a XP CD needed to load uninstalled XP features plus to insert at various times when prompted? Also, can a bootable CD be purchased? If both are purchased at retail, would they be compatible with the installed version of XP Home and with the keycode differences? To be prepared for maintenance, what is needed to support XP Home?
