Recently Stopped Running .exe Files
Jun 19, 2006My laptop has recently stopped running .exe files.Now whenever I try to run a .exe file, windows prompts me what program do I want to open it with.Does anyone know what's going on here?

Update Recently But Computer Is Running Slow
Nov 14, 2006I ran an update recently, as well as installed some new drivers (ATI Catalyst and Logitech Webcam drivers). Since then, every two days or so (I suppose something crashes) drwtsn32.exe and drwin.exe (and I think rundll32) boot a billion copies of themselves and continually screw up. How do I disable Dr. Watson? It's really bugging the hell out of me, and it's not like I ever use Dr. Watson's error reports.

Nov 10, 2004The recently used files shortcut does not appear in my start menu. It cannot be solved as per help instructions, because the related command does not appear in the properties dialog box. Actually, the bottom part of the advanced tab is empty. I am using Win XP pro.

There was one point when it started to work, but only briefly and that was when I checked for new updates on the RADEON Video 7200 card, I downloaded the updates then tried to open the DVD, this worked before re-booting, but when I re-booted the DVD-ROM refused to work again.

Apr 7, 2005I have a problem with video codecs all of a sudden, both my media players (Windows media player and BS Player) have stopped playing the audio tracks of my video files earlier on today, everything was working fine, and my video files were playing perfectly. I have the Xvid and Divx codecs installed. When I try and play a video file (that I watched earlier on today), Windows Media Player says that it is connecting to the codec server, then says there is an error downloading codec but it shouldn't even need to do this, as I KNOW I have the correct codecs installed. The visuals play fine but no audio.

Jun 21, 2005I use internet explorer and I have windows xp. Recently the internet went down. While everything else could work, every time you went to open a web-page it said there was no connection. The only way to rectify the problem was re-install Windows.However in an attempt to make sure the problem didn't occur again, some programs were deleted via ad-aware. Immediately the internet was unavailable again. Another re-install was required and I was back on the net. I tried to re-install Norton and it would stop half-way through, saying it couldn't finish installing.After trying to delete some stuff, Norton still couldn't be installed and after turning off the computer for the night and switching it back on the next day the internet again required a re-install to work. Can anyone help me work out what is wrong, and what I can do to stop it happening again.Also, I recently switched internet services from inbuilt dial-up modem to external ADSL Modem. But I had no problem for at least a month.

I tried clearing or setting it to display 0 programs, then restarting and setting it back to 6 but it still doesn't show.

GPU: GeForce 7950GTX 512mb
HD: Samsung 160GB SataII
DVDROM: Samsung DVD+RW
PSU: Tagan 580watt
MOBO: Gigabyte DS3R
O/S: WinXP SP2
Basically i can play games, watch movies, listen to music, burn DVD's, but the problem seems to start when i simply just browse the internet. after 10-15 minutes i get a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death).

Aug 8, 2010I recently reformated xp computer with xp 2002 disk all went well until i got to the activation of windows I activated windows and clicked ok then as i got to the logg on screen the error popped up again i repeated what i did the first time and sure enough it worked but when i clicked finish it returned to the logg in i tried once again to logg on and it came the same error but this time it told me windows is already activated and the only way to access windows is via safe mode which dont allow u to activate windows.

So i went to add/remove progs and uninstalled it. but when i restart my computer i get to the boot screen an have chose from xp or ubuntu? why is this? please help. I have partitioned 5 Gb for ubuntu how can I get it back and use it for xp? can i got to the file "boot.ini" found in C drive and erase the text where it says 'C:wubildr.mbr = "Ubuntu"' and change the value of partition from 1 to 0 in that file?

Sep 10, 2008I've recently reformatted and re-installed Windows on my computer. Now, some exe files won't run properly. By not running properly, I mean they are not running at all. I'll double click on an icon, the file flashes up in task manager for a second and then vanishes.
This problem is apparent with IE, RPG Maker XP install files and others. I do have AV's on my comp, and they do scan regularly.

I created a 'visitors' limited account, and put it in just the 'guest' group. A teenager has had use of the computer. Now, she's mature for her age (14) and her computer use was monitored, so I don't think she did anything intentionally, if she did anything at all.Problem started when one of the adults had the system freeze on her, twice. Once with IE, the other with Firefox. Both times Firefox was up with whatever the teenager had up (beebo?), another window or tab with something else the adult was doing, and msn.com - hotmail - was reported to me as "hotmail froze".

May 1, 2007My computer at work has been recently upgraded from Windows 2000 to XP. Funny thing is that the Internet Explorer icon (not a shortcut) doesn't show on the desktop. When I right click on the desktop to open the display properties and select the IE icon to be displayed, it still doesn't show on screen. I can only find shortcuts. They're not what I need because when you right click on a shortcut, the IE properties don't show (so you can't delete history or cookies).

Aug 29, 2005I have an Alienware Pentium 4 PC which is refusing to run a number of programmes. When I double click I get the hour glass but then the pointer returns back to an arrow and its as if the programme never started. I've check the apps I have open and its not listed. I've tried reinstalling the application and it makes no difference. I also have a problem where my desk top freezes so I can't click on anything but my mouse still drives the pointer. I ran a hard disk check using a utility from Seagate and it found errors with the metafiles and file structure in section one of my drive.

I've had a new mainframe installed, new hard drive and recently had a guy come over with a windows xp disc to repair some windows file..Ever since then the computer has been running slow. When I click My Computer, it takes a few minutes just to load it up. When running WMP the computer slows down dramatically, especially in full screen. This was not an issue before this repair was done. Also, under my documents and settings there is 'all users', 'default user', 'owner' and 'Owner.OWNER-C96F31C52.000'.

Jul 14, 2005I have Windows XP SP2 and all the updates. I have recently been fooling around with Batch files. I have been having problems with them not running the command. What happens is I will have a correct command set up in the batch file but when i run it a cmd window opens and the command it is supposed to run continously repeats the command over and over. The command function never actually initiats anything.nothing ever runs from the batch file command. It will just keep repeating for ever and ever untill i close it. Now here is the thing. If i rename the batch file or move it from where i was editing it to another folder it will run just fine. But see the issue is. I dont want have to rename it or move it. I want it to just run like it is supposed to.
