I've recently reformatted and re-installed Windows on my computer. Now, some exe files won't run properly. By not running properly, I mean they are not running at all. I'll double click on an icon, the file flashes up in task manager for a second and then vanishes.
This problem is apparent with IE, RPG Maker XP install files and others. I do have AV's on my comp, and they do scan regularly.
I have an Alienware Pentium 4 PC which is refusing to run a number of programmes. When I double click I get the hour glass but then the pointer returns back to an arrow and its as if the programme never started. I've check the apps I have open and its not listed. I've tried reinstalling the application and it makes no difference. I also have a problem where my desk top freezes so I can't click on anything but my mouse still drives the pointer. I ran a hard disk check using a utility from Seagate and it found errors with the metafiles and file structure in section one of my drive.

I've had a new mainframe installed, new hard drive and recently had a guy come over with a windows xp disc to repair some windows file..Ever since then the computer has been running slow. When I click My Computer, it takes a few minutes just to load it up. When running WMP the computer slows down dramatically, especially in full screen. This was not an issue before this repair was done. Also, under my documents and settings there is 'all users', 'default user', 'owner' and 'Owner.OWNER-C96F31C52.000'.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have Windows XP SP2 and all the updates. I have recently been fooling around with Batch files. I have been having problems with them not running the command. What happens is I will have a correct command set up in the batch file but when i run it a cmd window opens and the command it is supposed to run continously repeats the command over and over. The command function never actually initiats anything.nothing ever runs from the batch file command. It will just keep repeating for ever and ever untill i close it. Now here is the thing. If i rename the batch file or move it from where i was editing it to another folder it will run just fine. But see the issue is. I dont want have to rename it or move it. I want it to just run like it is supposed to.

It will however load if I am already in the program which usually opens it. Beside them it says SIG file, which I have no idea what that means. Also, it is just a blank box beside the file name (in my documents list) when usually there is a mini icon showing which program will work to open it.

MSMSG.EXE which i assume is microsoft messages of some form but no message is actally on screen the other is VSMON.exe which is part of the Zone lab firewall, they only activate sporadically and when I am on the Net but they show cpu usage at 80%+ so everything freezes. When they are not active the cpu runs at around 15%.

I tried to recovery them off the recovery disk but they are not there either. is there someplace I can get these files? I went to microsoft.comsupport and tried to put them in through notepad like they said and it did'nt work, must be doing something wrong.
I need to have a scheduled script running at certain time of the day to stop an application (File Maker Pro) from running; the backup the database and launch the application again. I know basics of command line scripting to re launch and do the copy of the data base. The only problem is to stop the application without damaging the database

(I'm sure there is, stopped looking after 45 minutes) It doesn't seem to slow my computer at all. My system totally crashed. I reformatted the drive and reinstall XP. Well, everything seems to be going along just fine until I get to 70% finished with copying installation files and I get message after message saying that the files cannot be copied.

One possible solution I thought of is using the registry files from my other computer running Windows XP. I don't even know if this is possible, but if it is, how can I transfer the files. I would put them on a CD but the CD drive won't open when the system repair tool is running, and they're too big to fit on a floppy disk, even one at a time (the system and software files are both over 2mb.)
