I have a problem with video codecs all of a sudden, both my media players (Windows media player and BS Player) have stopped playing the audio tracks of my video files earlier on today, everything was working fine, and my video files were playing perfectly. I have the Xvid and Divx codecs installed. When I try and play a video file (that I watched earlier on today), Windows Media Player says that it is connecting to the codec server, then says there is an error downloading codec but it shouldn't even need to do this, as I KNOW I have the correct codecs installed. The visuals play fine but no audio.
I have managed to put video footage onto my PC from a video cassette (by plugging my VCR into the TV aerial socket). The video footage is saved on my PC as .mpg files & when I open them, they play fine on Windows Media Player. When I import them on to Windows Movie Maker, they are recognised as video footage and I am able to put them into the collections as video. However, for some reason, when I drag them onto the timeline, they go onto the audio line & I can't get them to go on the video line, so when I play it, the sound plays but there is no picture. I have tried saving them as .AVI files but that makes no difference
I have a problem with playing video files. I can hear sound but no picture, no video. I'm using Windows XP home and I downloaded the latest codec for Window player and still won't work. I downloaded divx player and it won't work.. only sound.
i know this is the software section but it is becasue i also want to ask this question. what software do i use to convert any movie file format to dvd format which can also be use on a dvd player?
My Windows Media player 10 is trying to play some video clips as songs rather than video clips. This has only recently happened. Do I need to purchase some decoder to fix it or is there a down oad for it?
I imported a video of 90 min length onto my computer. When I imported it into Movie Maker the final quarter skips and the video and audio are disjointed. What caused this?
just got a new computer recently and updated the media player to windows media player 11 but when i try to play a video file it just plays the audio with no video.. anyone know why this is or have any tips?
my computer freezes when I play some video games and also when I play AVI files (if I play mpeg files they work just fine, no freezing at all) But the thing is when I play games or AVI files my computer will freeze randomly (5 minutes, 30 minutes, just randomly sometimes it won't freeze at all) I don't know if it's the memory or not.
I was listening to the audio on my laptop through headphones. Today my audio just stopped working. The headphones belonged to my friend and I can't find mine so I can't to even test to see if it is the speakers. Does the computer think the headphones are still plugged in by chance?
I have a Toshiba laptop M115-S3094 Satellite with Windows Media It's less than a year old.In the beginning it ran great. Now I can't get any audio. I tried the Fan in Comcast, it plays the videos, but no sound. I tried a DVD. No sound. I ran the troubleshooter. No help. No music in Windows Media Player either. There are so many devices on this laptop. I do get the sound when windows opens and closes. I have had sound on the Fan video clips and Windows Media Center in the past. I recently completed the Window authenticity.
My computer has recently started playing the System Notification sound that is defined as Windows XP Balloon.wav in the Sounds and Audio Device Properties at seemingly random intervels, and I cannot seem to find out what application is triggering the playing of this sound. I am sure it is this sound specifically as I changed it up and the change was reflected in the sound that was playing. I have also been checking the event viewer under Administrative tools and haven't noticed any events that correspond with the issue at hand. It's slowly driving me crazy! I have heard a ton of good stuff about your forums and thought I would give it a try.
I have a problem with audio, every once in a while I try to play an audio file and it just goes fastforward and doesn't play, sometimes it just gets stuck after 2 seconds.I tried to check my audio card (phonic firefly 302) and it's fine, I think the problem is with the controller or something Whenever I restart my computer/the audio card the problem is solved, but it keeps on happening.
i have a problem with windows media player, whenever i try to play a video, it says play at the bottom left hand side of the screen but nothing plays, audio, or video, what do i do?
I have a spare computer that I use for editing my home videos. TV and VCR hooked up to a capture card, then I burn to a dvd. However, I recently replaced the mobo and cpu, using the same harddrive that was in the other setup without formatting the drive. Hardware all works correctly, but my video programs kept giving me error messages. I uninstalled all the programs and codecs, reinstalled after clean reboot, and the programs are functioning correctly again EXCEPT. After capturing the video and playing the movie back in Media Player, all movies, even ones that were on the harddrive previously, are UPSIDE DOWN.
sometimes when i watch vidoes on you tube if i don`t enlarge the screene it will play ok but when i do enlarge the screene it would go so far then the screen would freeze but you can hear the video playing in the background then i would have to go back and enlarge the screene again i could have to do this a number of times during the play it`s most annoying can anyone tell me what i can do to rectify the problem
The only real problem I have is when I am playing a video or movie, it jumps up to 100% and causes the video to freeze up for a few seconds. I've gone through msconfig and turned off a bunch of start up stuff that I didn't need. I went from having about 50 processes to less than 30 and have seen no difference. I then changed the performance options from the Control Panel to optimize the system for performance. I have defragged, scanned with AVG and Ad-Aware
I am trying to watch video playback on my tv. I am using a dell Latitude 610 with an s-video output cable. All displays are fine except video playback. I have used windows media player9, windows media player classic and nero. The video box opens fine and playback occurs on the laptop but I get a purple screen in the video box on the tv. resolution has been changed from 600x800 to 1024x768 with no change in video display.
I'm using Win XP. Recently, in running video files, I'm getting audio, but the video portion is blank. My player is Windows Media Play 10, with current codecs. Preferences for the player are set to include all types of video files. I also have QuickTime installed, and DivX, although I don't use them. No previous problem like this. I've reinstalled Media Player and have the latest codecs package to go with it. Video files most used are .avi and .mpeg. I've got 512 ram, and that has not been a problem in the past. So, I'm guessing my video card has soured.
The videos that I have been downloading (.avi or xvid) movies give me video and only background audio. The music in the background and the background noise plays, but the voices of all characters does not play.
I think someone has posted a similar problem on this. I used to be able to view movies perfectly, but all of a sudden all I get is sound and no picture. This applies also to my DVD's using the player, and these are DVD's which have worked on this machine before.
How to extract the audio component of a video DVD film into an MP3 format. Eg to record a song from a DVD into MP3 or similar. What software can I use freely,

I have 5 hard drives in this system. My music files reside on the second SATA drive. When I am listening to music, it will stutter if I am doing any disk reading or writing, even when I am using a networked computer to access files on the machine. The videos on the other two SATA drives do the same thing; those hard drives are dynamically linked. The PATA drive has DivX movies on it, they dont stutter quite as bad. I have tried reinstalling the OS, without any other third party software, virus, or internet security programs (I dont network or connect to the Internet when I do that). That doesnt remedy the problem. I remove Windows components to the basic level. None of those steps work. I make sure all of the drivers and updates are current. The problem occurs with almost all software: WMP, Real Player, Quick Time, Pinnacle, MightSoft, and others. When I stream audio or video from the network or the net, it doesnt happen. I tried a couple of registry fixers they didnt work either. If someone could point me in the correct direction, I would be mighty pleased. I dont want to upgrade to Vista or another computer at this time. Otherwise, everything works just fine. I will upgrade to a dual or quad in about six months or so after Vista is more stable. However, I think I will keep this one as my sound system if I can correct this problem. I am not unintelligent (well maybe just a little slow out of the gate).

I try to play video/audio on my hard drive or the internet, my computer freezes and have to restart. It doesn't freeze everything, just the video player or internet. But I always have to restart. I could still move my mouse, however I cannot open anything else till it unfreezes.
When i download some stuff on utorrent like bleach (hehe) or the movie 300 the sound and video are not in synch so i used VLC player to make them synched but when viewd using WM11 its out of synch
I have a dell Inspiron 6000. I cannot get audio or video to work on sites that use pop-ups for them. For example, I cannot use most online radio streams or access video clips on cnn's website. This occurs with both Firefox and IE. The pop ups do appear but there is no video/audio.
