When I try to play a DVD, I get perfect Video, but NO Audio.
When I go play a video file the media player will open and try to play the video file then my whole system slows down to a snails pace. The whole system will start stalling. It’s quite hard to describe the problem but here are the symptoms;
- Just as the video starts to play the system will appear to freeze.
- 6 seconds latter I can move my mouse around
I have a situation where commercial dvd's play ok on the Widows Media Player but movies I make using Pinnacle 9.0, have no Audio. The video is good.

I tried the Fan in Comcast, it plays the videos, but no sound. I tried a DVD. No sound. I ran the troubleshooter. No help. No music in Windows Media Player either. There are so many devices on this laptop. I do get the sound when windows opens and closes. I have had sound on the Fan video clips and Windows Media Center in the past. I recently completed the Window authenticity.
View 22 Replies View RelatedMy computer has recently started playing the System Notification sound that is defined as Windows XP Balloon.wav in the Sounds and Audio Device Properties at seemingly random intervels, and I cannot seem to find out what application is triggering the playing of this sound. I am sure it is this sound specifically as I changed it up and the change was reflected in the sound that was playing. I have also been checking the event viewer under Administrative tools and haven't noticed any events that correspond with the issue at hand. It's slowly driving me crazy! I have heard a ton of good stuff about your forums and thought I would give it a try.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with audio, every once in a while I try to play an audio file and it just goes fastforward and doesn't play, sometimes it just gets stuck after 2 seconds.I tried to check my audio card (phonic firefly 302) and it's fine, I think the problem is with the controller or something Whenever I restart my computer/the audio card the problem is solved, but it keeps on happening.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with video codecs all of a sudden, both my media players (Windows media player and BS Player) have stopped playing the audio tracks of my video files earlier on today, everything was working fine, and my video files were playing perfectly. I have the Xvid and Divx codecs installed. When I try and play a video file (that I watched earlier on today), Windows Media Player says that it is connecting to the codec server, then says there is an error downloading codec but it shouldn't even need to do this, as I KNOW I have the correct codecs installed. The visuals play fine but no audio.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have managed to put video footage onto my PC from a video cassette (by plugging my VCR into the TV aerial socket). The video footage is saved on my PC as .mpg files & when I open them, they play fine on Windows Media Player. When I import them on to Windows Movie Maker, they are recognised as video footage and I am able to put them into the collections as video. However, for some reason, when I drag them onto the timeline, they go onto the audio line & I can't get them to go on the video line, so when I play it, the sound plays but there is no picture. I have tried saving them as .AVI files but that makes no difference
This problem is kind of wierd I was having problems with my video card. When I went to boot up the screen would go black. New drivers would not fix the issue. So I bought the same videocard again, thinking that something was wrong with the old one. The new videocard still doesn't work, but in the process of trying to boot up it did something to the registry, so now if I try to boot up I see a blue screen which says there is a registry problem and it shuts the computer down. Getting frustrated I thought it was best to just reinstall XP - so I started the process, only when it got to which partition you tell it to use I got the same blue screen with a registry error. So now what? How can I reinstall XP I thought that when you were installing XP it was basically "running" off of the install disc, so how could the registry be effecting it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor several months I have had a problem with windows xp restarting - a stop error - caused by- according to Microsoft (when I report the error) - a device driver. the only device with new drivers that I have added is the video card. The problem has recently gotten worse - the computer now either restarts or freezes after 20 - 25 minutes (it even did this when I was operating in Safe mode). HP tech support suggested that I remove the video card and see what happens - result was the same. I suspect some type of hardware problem. Hp support receommends I do a system restore and that if the computer shuts down during the process I will know it's not the operating system
View 1 Replies View Relatedmy computer freezes when I play some video games and also when I play AVI files (if I play mpeg files they work just fine, no freezing at all) But the thing is when I play games or AVI files my computer will freeze randomly (5 minutes, 30 minutes, just randomly sometimes it won't freeze at all) I don't know if it's the memory or not.

I just got a new computer with an AMD Duron processor, 512 M RAM and Windows XP. Only problem is I've got no audio. I've checked BIOS and sound is enabled but Windows doesn't seem to recognize that the speakers are hooked up. When I tried to play system sounds from the Control Panel, I got an error message that said cannot play sound, your sound card may be in use. The computer was a gift that was bought used and the shop didn't have any documentation with the system. I think this might be a driver issue but I'm not sure how to find out which driver to try.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI reinstalled my OS and all my software, shortly thereafter I noticed I had an issue where any sound that was coming through my headphones was being retransmitted through the mic, with further testing I found that this was not actually the case but rather any sound that would be output is being retransmitted as audio in, even if I had no speakers, headphones or mics connected. I have looked at and experimented with everything I could in every sound settings.
I have tried updated drivers, the only way for me to stop the issue from occurring is to mute the mic in the recording control, but that stops me from using the mic altogether. I need to be able to use my mic without recording anything that I am hearing as well.
First off I use windows XP with the latest service pack. I'm using the onboard sound card on my motherboard Asus striker II extreme.
The volume of my flash player (I first noticed it when trying to view a video on Hulu) but other flash embedded videos won't play sound either. I thought this was a flash problem, and tried the usual fixes uninstalling reinstalling, running the update utility and removing and reinstalling the plugin. Also it likely isn't a browser issue as embedded videos didn't play on either Firefox or Opera.
After restarting my computer after a few uninstalls I noticed my startup music wasn't playing as well. I'm thinking that it might be some registry error as it seems like the music is very quiet instead of muted, and all of the volume levels in the Sounds and Audio Device Properties menu are at the correct levels, and my other media players play music and movies just fine.
I've browsed the forums and haven't seen anyone with a similar problem or a fix, so any help would be greatly apprciated.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI do not know how to determine the CPU load of audio on a motherboard how to determine if the sound includes a digital signal processor (DSP). I assume a DSP, especially for older CPUs (600 MHz. or so) is a big improvement because it offloads a lot of processing from the CPU. I am interested only in stereo. How can I know if an add-in sound card with a DSP is actually an improvement? Does the DSP overweigh other issues, eg. does a cheap Mad Dog Prowler 4.1 DSP sound card offer an improvement over the motherboard sound of a Compaq DeskPro ENS/P600? Truth is, I've been looking for but have not seen a treatise on this topic. Does anyone have any links for me to pursue?

View 6 Replies View RelatedA new machine with a new XP build who is unable to hear audio from his machine. After taking a look at his machine I noticed he had no audio driver installed. Thinking that this was a simple fix I attempted to re-install the Realtek HD Audio drivers that are included with the machine (HP dc-5750). After installation and restart I receive the new hardware detected prompt and I navigate to the directory with the .sys file in it. When attempting to install it the wizard states that it was unable to locate the drivers. I know the drivers are correct and I have even attempted to download updated drivers.
This is when I started to search the forums, all stating to remove the drivers and remove the UAA hotfix from Microsoft and re-install both. (UAA first then drivers) This failed to produce any results, so I looked around more and found an article stating I needed to extract the files into a folder and direct the new hardware wizard to the commonfile folder in the folder. This left me still without sound or a working driver.

However, I recently replaced the mobo and cpu, using the same harddrive that was in the other setup without formatting the drive. I uninstalled all the programs and codecs, reinstalled after clean reboot, and the programs are functioning correctly again EXCEPT. After capturing the video and playing the movie back in Media Player, all movies, even ones that were on the harddrive previously, are UPSIDE DOWN.
View 8 Replies View Relatedwell for the past couple months I've been getting this really annoying problem with the "System" process randomly using the CPU A LOT on WinXP Pro. This is only noticeable while playing games that use high amounts of CPU usage as well (two of which are Continuum which is an online multiplayer game and Sims 2).
I've been through many forums trying everything that could possibly be a problem. Removed the registry entry related to avis, set the settings to best performance but no change. Now I would assume that it has to do with something running, but just this morning I shut down all my server process, and basically anything I could.
My computer often hangs whenever I play games. After it hangs for 3 times, my monitor will go black and the yellow light will bleep and it will restart by itself. This annoys me very much as I play games a lot.I've checked for viruses,trojan,ad-aware,spyware etc.
I used Ad-aware,SpyBot,PC Doctor and all of it says I'm clean.
