I need to flash my router but to do so I have to be in 'pure dos'. This means using an msdos disk and using it when system starts up. It all goes fine....however....The directory it starts on is A: and I want to get to C: I have tried using commands such as 'chdir C:' but still no luck. Goes anyone have a clue how to change the directory?

View 5 Replies View RelatedUsing WinXP-Pro-SP2 on a Dell XPS Gen2 running at 3.4GHz with 2GB RAM. Ever since I upgraded to SP2, command mode hasn't worked properly and it's driving me bonkers. Symptoms:
(1) Many of my BAT files no longer function properly. E.g. a simple BY.BAT with only EXIT in it does nothing.
(2) Every command entered, other than DOS built-ins, gets the response: 'C:Documents' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file... and then sometimes the command executes and sometimes it doesn't.
(3) Good old 'DOSKEY' no longer works at all. I cannot get DOS to repeat the last entered command.....
I recently tried to reinstall windows xp, but the installation was interrupted and left me with a partially installed windows on my hard drive. Now, whenever I try to install again, it gives me the error: NTLDR is missing. I made a msdos boot disc to reformat my drive such that I can try installing windows again. However, I have two hard drive (one for windows and programs and one for storage) and I don't know which one is which letter. How can I find this information, so that I don't accidentally wipe my storage drive?

Instead, I just get a red screen with ERROR and says to contact Compaq for support. I'm assuming something is "missing" that allows the Quick Restore to be "ok" with loading. I've formatted the Hard Drive.

I have a 2 Year old HP dv600 Laptop that causes endless griefThe computer boots up with the HP quick Play display on screen with a choice of three selections DVD.Music and Windows OS When Windows OS is selected the Computer goes in to search which takes up to 1-2 Min.and then goes in to sleep mode The only way to get it to boot up at all is to boot in to safe mode and then restart I have uninstalled HP quick launch with no results it seems Quick Play is a Keyboard service and there doesn't seem any way to circumvent the Key.

I can't imagine why I don't have this function. When I drag to the quicklaunch bar I don't see the usual black line on the left of the icon.I can drag and drop on the desktop all day. I have to click the small arrow on quick launch bar( see the first and second attachements with my post). The quicklaunch buttons, for some reason, are disproportionately large,though.I know that before they were nice and tidy (before I had to reinstall), so know that it IS possible to have something that takes less space than these do. Now, whenever I reboot, the toolbar disappears and I have to right click on the task bar, select toolbars, and select Quick Launch. View 12 Replies View RelatedI recently had to restore a mail folder for my Thunderbird application for a deleted account.So I accidentally made my entire application data folder visible (not hidden).Since then, an application called Quick Launch appears in the Applications pane of the Task manager that I can't kill.My understanding was that it was just a toolbar folder in the Application data folder. Every time I go full screen in WMP and come out, a little Quick Launch window minimizes itself to the bottom right of the taskbar.
