Compaq Presario 5000. Hard Drive failed, replaced hard drive and now Win XP Quick Restore Cd's that came with this PC won't load on new Hard Drive. Instead, I just get a red screen with ERROR and says to contact Compaq for support. I'm assuming something is "missing" that allows the Quick Restore to be "ok" with loading. I've formatted the Hard Drive.
View 5 Repliesi need to buy a compaq quickrestore cd. ive been looking online and they seem pretty hard to find. i found one website that might work but im not sure(restoredisks.com). also, i found somewhere that there was some type of settlement with compaq and that i might be able to get a quick restore cd for free through https://www.orderz.com/qrcons/page1.asp i have my serial number on the side of my computer so everything would be legit. if worst comes to worst i might just call up compaq tech support and try and buy one from them but im not sure how much that would cost.

I use to do alot of Compaq service and know there is a way to force the quick restore to go in on a new hard drive with a keystroke combination while its starting up, but for the life of me can't remember the what the keystroke combination is.

I came across this ebay item. What do you guys think? Is this any good? If so, will the restore option install Windows XP instead of the Window 2000 that I currently have running?
View 6 Replies View Relatedwhen a memory failure corrupted the OS. Compaq runs its setup from a special partition on the HD and Ive reloaded all of that from floppies. Setup says I have a 26.2GB HD but it is 60GB, otherwise all tests pass. In setup under storage the help file says I can select the boot sequence but I cant seem to find anyway to do this?? Id like to boot from the Win 2000 CD, I did make a boot floppy set from the 2000 CD but it dies on disk2 with a "isapnp.sys corrupt". Downloaded another makeboot.exe diskette set and get the same message. The original OS starts to load off the HD but stops with an error message and only allows a reboot. Can I move this HD to a slave on an XP system and load 2000 that way and then move back and configure the different hardware? Or just boot from the CD on my other PC and install

When I started the restore it was just shutting off on me. I gave up and bought a new computer. Well just a few days ago a good friend of mine passed away, and his family wants pictures that I had on this computer. Went to start it up and see if it would turn on. It did and continued with the restore, It finished the restore, but now there is none of my data left. I would love to get these pictures back

View 9 Replies View RelatedI decided to install an old hard drive from one of my computers that is no longer used into my aging desktop. I've always dual booted with Linux, and decided that with the extra space, I was going to put Linux into the "new" drive, and reinstall Windows on the old primary drive. Both are IDE, and the following problem occurs whether just the Windows drive is plugged in, or if both disk are hooked up: I have a Compaq SR1620NX. I've only added extra RAM, a TV Tuner, and the extra hard drive When I put in the Compaq restore CD's, you first boot from the CD's, in order to copy the files first (which are the first 50% of the install), then the computer reboots into XP, and continues the installation process (Mostly Drivers, Crapware, and the license key). I've done this process once or twice before, and it worked flawlessly, this time it keeps freezing.
Once the computer boots into XP, I'm prompted to insert the final recovery disk. A few files are copied over, and the computer reboots. Once the computer reboots, the same screen pops up, and continues the installation (as it's suppose to). After a minute or two after the reboot, the computer locks up completely. I've waited quite awhile, yet nothing happens. Although it's against what the screen says, I hold the power button in, and let the computer reboot. Again, the installation screen pops up, but nothing happens
compaq computer has bit the dust and I'm building her a new one. Her original 20GB harddrive won't boot up in the new system....it gets to where the XP colored window flashes, goes to a blue screen of death screen, but that blinks out so quickly that I can't read it or pause it, and the computer reboots itself. It won't boot into safemode either. thought the harddrive was dead since I could hear it click at that point

View 7 Replies View RelatedRecently took some hits on my Compaq Presario 7478 system. Got two or three nasties via the 'Net. After McAfee's virus scan and removal, began experiencing weird happenings, such as system closing down and restarting. Then just not starting. Tried a few remedies [probably inadvisedly], and finally the system seemed to hang on my restore at the same place repeatedly.Ultimately the system could no longer establish my OS. Restore failed.
Bottom line: Could not invoke computer restore. Could do nothing with this computer.Q... Being compaq is the BIOS set to a certain condition that would prevent my reformatting the hard drive and restablishing an OS? Is this an option I can override? If I were to piggy-back the existing hard drive onto an operating hard-drive and reformat would that solve this problem and permit me to then create or repair the hard drive subsequently to get my compaq back?
I have a compaq computer and have a problem with the restore cd from compaq. I needed to reformat the hard drive because of some crup files. When I put the restore cd in the computer is says the cd's are not for this compaq. I taked to compaq and gave them all the information they ask for and was told that I had the correct cd and it must be a bad cd set. They had me order a new set of cd's from there online store which I did with the part number they gave me after I double checked the number to see if they were correct and I got them in yesterday and still had the same problem. I talked to hp again last night and was told that the mother board most likely needed to be tatoo to match the cd's. I was told to take it to one of there repair stores to have this done. Never heard of a mother board changing it's self.

I have a 2 Year old HP dv600 Laptop that causes endless griefThe computer boots up with the HP quick Play display on screen with a choice of three selections DVD.Music and Windows OS When Windows OS is selected the Computer goes in to search which takes up to 1-2 Min.and then goes in to sleep mode The only way to get it to boot up at all is to boot in to safe mode and then restart I have uninstalled HP quick launch with no results it seems Quick Play is a Keyboard service and there doesn't seem any way to circumvent the Key.

My quick launch tab is checked so it's not that. How do I get my Quick Launch Button back? I don't know how anyone can function without that Button.. I love that button! I can't imagine why I don't have this function. When I drag to the quicklaunch bar I don't see the usual black line on the left of the icon.I can drag and drop on the desktop all day. Any suggestion as to what the problem might be? I have never had this problem in eight years I have had a computer.

I have to click the small arrow on quick launch bar( see the first and second attachements with my post). I want to know is there some way that I can see more than just 3 progeammes on this bar without clicking the arrow? Secondly can I choose which programmes to appear all the time on quick launch bar( see first attachement) and which programmes should be hidden and will only appear when I click the small arrow( see second attachement).

The quicklaunch buttons, for some reason, are disproportionately large,though.I know that before they were nice and tidy (before I had to reinstall), so know that it IS possible to have something that takes less space than these do. Now, whenever I reboot, the toolbar disappears and I have to right click on the task bar, select toolbars, and select Quick Launch. Any ideas why this may be happening or how to prevent this from being removed each time. I tried locking the taskbar, but that didn't help.

So I deleted most of them, but kept show desktop and outlook express.
