Help With Win2000 Restore On Compaq Deskpro4000
Dec 23, 2004
when a memory failure corrupted the OS. Compaq runs its setup from a special partition on the HD and Ive reloaded all of that from floppies. Setup says I have a 26.2GB HD but it is 60GB, otherwise all tests pass. In setup under storage the help file says I can select the boot sequence but I cant seem to find anyway to do this?? Id like to boot from the Win 2000 CD, I did make a boot floppy set from the 2000 CD but it dies on disk2 with a "isapnp.sys corrupt". Downloaded another makeboot.exe diskette set and get the same message. The original OS starts to load off the HD but stops with an error message and only allows a reboot. Can I move this HD to a slave on an XP system and load 2000 that way and then move back and configure the different hardware? Or just boot from the CD on my other PC and install

Compaq Presario 5000. Hard Drive failed, replaced hard drive and now Win XP Quick Restore Cd's that came with this PC won't load on new Hard Drive. Instead, I just get a red screen with ERROR and says to contact Compaq for support. I'm assuming something is "missing" that allows the Quick Restore to be "ok" with loading. I've formatted the Hard Drive.

i need to buy a compaq quickrestore cd. ive been looking online and they seem pretty hard to find. i found one website that might work but im not sure(restoredisks.com). also, i found somewhere that there was some type of settlement with compaq and that i might be able to get a quick restore cd for free through https://www.orderz.com/qrcons/page1.asp i have my serial number on the side of my computer so everything would be legit. if worst comes to worst i might just call up compaq tech support and try and buy one from them but im not sure how much that would cost.

I just did a restore on a compaq laptop that is about 5 years old. It was having problems connecting to internet so I started the restore a few years ago. When I started the restore it was just shutting off on me. I gave up and bought a new computer. Well just a few days ago a good friend of mine passed away, and his family wants pictures that I had on this computer. Went to start it up and see if it would turn on. It did and continued with the restore, It finished the restore, but now there is none of my data left. I would love to get these pictures back

I decided to install an old hard drive from one of my computers that is no longer used into my aging desktop. I've always dual booted with Linux, and decided that with the extra space, I was going to put Linux into the "new" drive, and reinstall Windows on the old primary drive. Both are IDE, and the following problem occurs whether just the Windows drive is plugged in, or if both disk are hooked up: I have a Compaq SR1620NX. I've only added extra RAM, a TV Tuner, and the extra hard drive When I put in the Compaq restore CD's, you first boot from the CD's, in order to copy the files first (which are the first 50% of the install), then the computer reboots into XP, and continues the installation process (Mostly Drivers, Crapware, and the license key). I've done this process once or twice before, and it worked flawlessly, this time it keeps freezing.
Once the computer boots into XP, I'm prompted to insert the final recovery disk. A few files are copied over, and the computer reboots. Once the computer reboots, the same screen pops up, and continues the installation (as it's suppose to). After a minute or two after the reboot, the computer locks up completely. I've waited quite awhile, yet nothing happens. Although it's against what the screen says, I hold the power button in, and let the computer reboot. Again, the installation screen pops up, but nothing happens

I'm a little lacking in memory, so I think this one has hit the bit bucket on me. I use to do alot of Compaq service and know there is a way to force the quick restore to go in on a new hard drive with a keystroke combination while its starting up, but for the life of me can't remember the what the keystroke combination is.

compaq computer has bit the dust and I'm building her a new one. Her original 20GB harddrive won't boot up in the new system....it gets to where the XP colored window flashes, goes to a blue screen of death screen, but that blinks out so quickly that I can't read it or pause it, and the computer reboots itself. It won't boot into safemode either. thought the harddrive was dead since I could hear it click at that point

Recently took some hits on my Compaq Presario 7478 system. Got two or three nasties via the 'Net. After McAfee's virus scan and removal, began experiencing weird happenings, such as system closing down and restarting. Then just not starting. Tried a few remedies [probably inadvisedly], and finally the system seemed to hang on my restore at the same place repeatedly.Ultimately the system could no longer establish my OS. Restore failed.
Bottom line: Could not invoke computer restore. Could do nothing with this computer.Q... Being compaq is the BIOS set to a certain condition that would prevent my reformatting the hard drive and restablishing an OS? Is this an option I can override? If I were to piggy-back the existing hard drive onto an operating hard-drive and reformat would that solve this problem and permit me to then create or repair the hard drive subsequently to get my compaq back?

I have a compaq computer and have a problem with the restore cd from compaq. I needed to reformat the hard drive because of some crup files. When I put the restore cd in the computer is says the cd's are not for this compaq. I taked to compaq and gave them all the information they ask for and was told that I had the correct cd and it must be a bad cd set. They had me order a new set of cd's from there online store which I did with the part number they gave me after I double checked the number to see if they were correct and I got them in yesterday and still had the same problem. I talked to hp again last night and was told that the mother board most likely needed to be tatoo to match the cd's. I was told to take it to one of there repair stores to have this done. Never heard of a mother board changing it's self.

My old computer is a Dell Optiplex GX1 Pent3 with a fresh install of Windows 2000. My brother had been using it with Win 98 and a dialup connection and all was fine. Prior to that I had it on a DSL connection. Now I want to get it back online at home where I have a cable modem and my usual computer with a DLink router.I know the router and cable are ok because I just had another XP computer on it.Nothing I do will seem to connect the Windows 2000 Pro to the internet . I tried disabling the onboard LAN connection(a 3COM 3C918 Integrated Fast Ethernet Controller and installing another LAN card but that didn't work either. I also connected it to the modem without the router.

I work at an company of which I choose to remain anonymous. We have an intranet set-up, and I would like to get onto the internet, just to watch videos or check e-mail during the slow hours. It will display the intranet, the webpage for the company itself (the public webpage), the testing site for our recruitment testing, and thats it.It gives me a message as if you attempted to access google from home, but unplugged the ethernet cable. Today I accessed a site I run through angelfire through ftp.angelfire.com, and it displayed the contents of my server, but I can't see the photos or anything.

I have just re-installed Windows 2000 and I have a strong wireless signal to the usb adapter but cannot get connected to the internet. What is it about 2000 networking that is the trick to this? I have it set up to obtain an IP address automatically. By the way it is connecting to a wireless access point, not directly to the router. The access point is piggybacked off the main router.

I have 2 computers that i need to know what is the max hard drive size. One computer is running winME and the other is running Win2000. As for the win2000 i changed the registry for 48 bit LBA support in order to see my 320gb drive. The reason why I ask is because I'm planning to purchase a 750gb or 1tb external hard drive to backup my system. I don't want to purchase it to find that the system can only see 500gb or something like that. I'm gonna post this same post in the winMe area.

I would like to erase this partition, is there an automatic way to do it?
Or at least, if it's too difficult to erase it, I'd like to start directly with windows.once loggen in windows, I am asked whether I want to start with winXP or win2000, but I don't have win2000 installed , so I'd like to erase this option page and log directly with win XP

I'm running Windows XP SP3 with everything up to date as far as I know. I have the complete set of my PC's OEM Disks that I've used once when my OS was completely messed up, had Geeks Rescue out and they couldn't figure out what was wrong, so I know what they are for. What I'm not understanding are the several tools I'm afraid to open listed in my "Start"/"All Programs" I have both "Compaq"/"Compaq Presario PC Tools" with "Compaq Application Recovery"/"Compaq Recovery CD-DVD Creator"/"Compaq Recovery Tools CD"/"Compaq Support Information"/"Compaq System Recovery"/"Remote Assistance"/"Safety and Comfort Guide"

I recently downloaded some drivers as I was trying to install a new printer who's software would'nt load. This did'nt solve the problem. I decided to get a printer that I had had before, Brother DCP-110C as I knew this had worked well. I tried to install yesterday (28th July) but could'nt and my PC keeps switching itself off near the end of the installation. I then thought I would use System restore to go back to a happier time when I had the first Brother printer. previous saved point wont let me to restore

I was messing around with CCleaner and deleted something to do with an old version of McAfee (which isn't even on my computer anymore) from the registry. Yes, it was stupid to mess with the registry I guess because I failed to make the backup and now my computer won't boot. I get the blue screen that says there was an error 0x0000008e, or something like that.
I have tried using F8 and choosing the last known good configuration but it doesn't work. Also, I can boot into safe mode and I tried running a system restore but after it finished and I rebooted, it said that I couldn't restore from that point.I haven't really tried another restore because I am a little afraid to do anything. I don't want to risk losing access in safe mode because I need to be able to back up some of my files if in case I have to do a reformat.

My computer had a turn yesterday and kept giving me the blue screen error on start-up, so using my windows disk I managed to run chkdsk. So I can get on now, but certain things won't run, like Media Centre, Firefox has forgotten my settings and also my iriver doesn't get acknowledged when I plug it into a USB port.So I am trying to run System restore to go back a couple of days.I can get into restore, and go through everything up to the point where you click 'next' in order to restore it.I click on next but nothing happens, it just stays there.

I am unable to acess any of my or XP's restore points. When I went to restore to an earlier date. All appeared to be going as it should. However, when I got to my profile a message window came up that said unable to restore to (chosen date/time) etc. I chose 3 other restore points over the last month, thinking it might be some recent problem, still a no go. Any help would be greatly appreciated? Is there a utility to use to check and see if there is something corrupted?

Restore Incomplete is the message regardless of what date is entered. I have 8.5 gig disk space and turning off RESTORE , rebooting and creating a new restore point did not solve the problem--the message remained the same. Other than reinstalling XP I am at a loss as to what to do. I do not have a need to restore at the moment but I may need to in the future.
