Prevent Wakeup On Mouse Move?
Dec 26, 2004
I'm using XP Pro. I'd like to prevent my system from resuming from Standby mode every time the mouse gets nudged (which, on my crowded desk, is often). How can I do this? I've read in a few places that you can set the "wake up" option for the mouse, but I've never been able to find this setting.

I got a new computer and I have been having problems with my mouse. I have a simple optical wired mouse. During random times, my mouse click freezes, although my mouse can move and I can use the key board at this time, I cannot click or focus anything. To fix the problem I can control alt delete and exit the Task Manager, this fixes the problem.

im running XP. for some reason lately, i've noticed since my family changed ISP's, that my computer temporarily freezes. Like I'd be running 2 IE's, and I'm switching to the other browser, when the screen freezes - but I can move the mouse. It freezes for around a minute to a few minutes, but I can move the mouse. I go to click on eg the Start button, go back to the browser i was originally on, etc. Only after the screen temporarily freezes does the start menu come up at around the same time the browsers switch from one to another. how do i fix this? it's REALLY annoying. it doesn't only happen on my computer, but on my parents' computer as well. the funny thing is that it doesnt happen to my bros computer.

I've got Windows XP Pro, SP2. Say your mouse quit working. Isn't there a way to move around and select stuff with the keyboard? I've looked in "Help" but I must not have known how to phrase it because I could find nothing. Could somebody please tell me where to look?

Couple new things. I've been using win98 for the past 7 years, but now have 2 new items a mouse with a scroll wheel and win xp pro. I've dug thru just about everything I could find to see if I could get this mouse to respond when I move it. But so far nothing. It sits there I'm guessing just to make sure the mouse actually moved for justthe annoyance factor length of time. then it jerks and catches up. Other than this nothing wrong with the mouse. How do I get it to move when I move ?

I have a Dell Inspiron 4100 laptop with Windows XP Operating System. Recently, the mouse begins to move on its own without me touching anything usually the left bottom corner but it could be other directions as well. When I use the touchpad, the mouse moves but I am competing with something stronger pulling it to one side so I have trouble controlling the mouse in general. Since the Inspiron has two types of laptop mouses (the touchpad and ball), I have to use them both in tandem to actually move the mouse

Where is the control for the setting that makes the desktop resume with one move of the mouse? Mine seems to have changed itself from one move of the mouse, to two moves of the mouse, to bring the desktop back up. I don't remember doing anything at the time, or ever really, like software installs, sys restores, etc., that would account.

I've spent the last two months just trying to get Windows to operate correctly on a new Mac. Unbelievable! I've re-installed XP SP2 too many times to count, finally had it up and thought it was running fine for the last week, then I went over to the Mac OS tried accessing windows through boot camp, it shut down the Mac OS, then when I tried to go back to boot Windows directly, I received the damning <windows root> system32hal.dll file is missing or corrupt - again.

With the classic style in windows XP, the programs that I open (IE, FireFox, others) just keep compressing together as I add more and more. This is what I want. However, with the XP style, after a certain point the icons are pushed to a different "page" of the task bar and I have to use the scroll button to go back to them. My question is: How do I keep the XP style, but lose the scrolling of my programs? Is there a way to keep everything about the XP style, but bring the classic taskbar behavior over?

I am trying to prevent users running .exe on a certain program on their pcs.
The problem is that they have full administrative rights so even if i restrict it via group policy they will just change it back. Then i thought i could restrict them opening gpedit.msc in the registry but they will still be able to download one and change everything back. Im back to where i started really and don't know what to do.
Is there a way to amend the registry for a certain application to prevent them opening it? I just need to do something clever enough they wont be able to work out without having to change their access from administrator. Any help would be very appreciated - using Windows XP Professional

A co-worker turned on _all_ of the accessibility options on my PC as a gag and turned off the computer. Upon being presented with a logon screen, any keypresses made result in an audible 'bong' noise, the title bar of the 'press ctl+alt+del to login' window flashes and the keystroke appears to have done nothing. At this point, I cannot press ctl+alt+del to be able to log in.

This tweak is used prevent windows XP from using mirror Video driver when accesing some program.1.Some program or games like Ghost Recon, use alternate Video driver when it can't recognise the Primary Video card driver.2.Alternate driver lack AGP support and performance. So this tweak will prevent window XP from using this alternate driver whenever it was called for.3.Some bug may appear when using the primary Video driverHere's how to do it:-Run Regedit.-Go to. --> "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEM CurrentControlSetControlVideo"-There will be 4 'display device GUID' key.-Expand all 4 key.-Open the 'subkey' labelled "000" -Change any 'DWORD' value labelled "MirrorDriver" from '1' to '0'.-Close regedit, restart.4. My graphic card is soo slow (SiS based graphiccard) so, if my AGP texturing capabilities disabled, my computer will go soo slow.5. I use a program named "POWERSTRIP" to determine my AGP capabilities (and to overclockmy Graphic Card).

It was in the middle of Shutting down windows and the power breaker went so my computer got shut off incorrectly. I started getting a memory dump screen when i tried to log into windows. So i put in the windows disk and did a Repair Install. that worked fine, I got it working and everything. Then I got a windows update installed from MS website... the whole Automatic Updare thing. Then I went to restart the comp cuz it was required, then my system could not load past the login screen, just always did a memory dump. so i went and tryed to Repair windows again, now i get this error

I have recently been getting a "blue screen of death" or windows crash screen and have been trying to get a solution. I was running a computer game several days ago and began to notice crackling in the speakers every now and then and became concerned. When out of no where the game crashes and I get a blue screen thats says stop: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer and it goes on to sya a bunch of other crap and at the bottom the technical code for the error reads 0x0000009c (0x00000004 0x8053FAf0 0xB2000000 0x00070F0F. I decided the best way to go would be a re-installation of windows. But anyways.

It has an MSI board, Celeron D cedermill at 2.2ghz. Western Digital 160gb sata drive. I don't think any of that really matters, but heres the problem. When trying to install windows XP, after loading all the drivers it needs and it gets to 'starting windows' a blue screen comes up saying something like 'your system was turned off to prevent further damage. The hard drive works fine in another system, and so doesn't installing xp. I put the hard drive with xp installed. It tries to load, same screen. But it installs windows 2000 without glitch.
