View 6 Replies View RelatedI set mouse pointer speed (speed cursor moves over the screen) set to max (in control panel)This was fine until I upgraded from a 19" screen to a DELL 2405, this being a 24" widescreen. Now the screen is massive (I run at 1920 res) and the mouse is just too slow when in XP. Is there any way I can tweak XP to speed my mouse pointer up even more.
View 8 Replies View RelatedLately my computer has been extremely slow, not just internet slow but onboard slow. For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. I've looked in the task manager and the applications column will be blank
View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm running XP. I did an Ad-Aware scan and removed some tracking cookies. It also stated that I had 29 running processes. How do I find what is running to help speed up my PC, and also; which are essential? I have dial-up AOL. It's running like a horse-drawn computer. How can I get it up to at least steam-powered.
View 2 Replies View Relatedim running XP. for some reason lately, i've noticed since my family changed ISP's, that my computer temporarily freezes. Like I'd be running 2 IE's, and I'm switching to the other browser, when the screen freezes - but I can move the mouse. It freezes for around a minute to a few minutes, but I can move the mouse. I go to click on eg the Start button, go back to the browser i was originally on, etc. Only after the screen temporarily freezes does the start menu come up at around the same time the browsers switch from one to another. how do i fix this? it's REALLY annoying. it doesn't only happen on my computer, but on my parents' computer as well. the funny thing is that it doesnt happen to my bros computer.
View 14 Replies View RelatedA while ago I turned my PC off by the main power while it was booting up by mistake, and after that it started giving me the BSOD saying "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer" with the error code "0x00000024". I managed to fix that with CHKDSK commands but now it's extremely laggy and buggy, for example, when I open a window, the window bar doesn't show on the task bar, music doesn't play, videos don't play, etc.
Would reformatting help? Or are the disks just broken beyond repair?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe run Comcast high speed, two computers running though a router setup. My son "opened a port" to speed up his game play. My computer now crawls. Pages take too long to load, and I now sometimes get the server error message here, server not responding. Any idea what I can do. My son seems baffled, but I know he doesn't want to sacrifice his warp speed game play.

View 11 Replies View RelatedFirst off i downloaded video ax object a few days ago and i then read up about it and realized it was a virus. From everything i read, it should show up in add/remove programs and in programfiles folder. It showed up in neither, the only thing i found was a folder named video ax access or something like that in programfiles folder but the folder was empty and no hidden files in it so i deleted it. When I downloaded setup.exe of the video ax object and double-clicked on it and agreed. Then it quickly installed without specifying where to save it?? Computer was totally fine for about 2-3 days no problems.

anyone know how to fix it?
first off my computer is a dell latitude c640 with xp pro. despite its age i have never had any problem watching videos or streaming audio offline. now it is laggy. if i watch a video it will every so often skip and jump. i then listened to a local radio station that is streamed offline and i get the same thing. lag. all video does it, fox on demand, any amazon video on demand i have and even Internet!
its not my internet connection i will say this. i thought of that but knew it could not be. for one thing i have watched videos before and never had that problem. also i am using my colleges internet connection so yes it has enough bandwidth. then there is the fact that it is not just video online. it is also video offline. downloaded amazon on demand skips, ripped dvd's too and when i watch it on dvd it skips too.
it recently started about sunday. if it helps i installed a few programs prior to this problem.
1)video lan http://www.videolan.org/been uninstalled since2)ms office 2007 (highly doubt this is a problem)
3)service pack 3 was installed sunday night(automatic update)
My computer all of a sudden slowed drastically. It hangs when I run outlook and when I try to clear my temp files in IE. I'm getting huge memory usage from "epmworker.exe", "Generic.exe", and "alg.exe" I have run spy sweeper and AVG and have found nothing.

View 6 Replies View Relatedcomputer (WinXP SP2 - 1GB RAM) just started in the last day or two to load really slow -- it takes a good half hour or more to get to the point where you can click on an icon and it takes a few minutes to open. Don't even ask about the internet. it did not download anything in the last few days and has no idea why this is happening.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy problems are a very long boot up (go away and make a coffee length) and also slow running, especially in opening progs for the first time ie, very slow to open Word initially, then much faster opening subsequent Word files. Even so, the laptop has slowed considerably and is often hesitant.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an older Dell with windows XP and lately when i double click on something either on the desktop or elsewhere, the computer won't pick up that the mouse is clicking on it.Then other times it's perfectly fine.it seems to be slow at "thinking" sometimes when i open firefox and clicking in Firefox web pages it doesn't notice that i'm clicking on stuff...so there are times when i'm constantly clicking on an icon to open it!
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy computer freezes up. No keyboard, mouse, ect. The mouse arrow disappears. I have to "power off" the computer to get things working. Now here is the strange thing, if i move the mouse around "quickly" the computer will work OK. This is on a new install of Windows XP + sp1. If I am moving the mouse slowing as in solitare the system will lock up in about 10 mn

View 14 Replies View RelatedAnd yes, I've seen the link with all the progs to clean up your machine- great idea to put them in one place. Ran all of them, still no dice. Here's the problem. Everything is running slow- games, IE, etc.- and when I check task manager I range from 10% to 20+% CPU usage (not sure if that's normal or not) when nothing but the essentials are running. update: i've defraged all drives, cut my memory back to 512MB (out of 1.5GB) and killed all unnecessary background/startup progs. What other info do you guys need? You've helped me a few times before, and it's usually something bone-headed I've done, but I'm also bull-headed and that's the only way I seem to learn yes you may have seen this post before, but it's 7 or 8 pages back now. and since there's no search option here, stuff tends to get left behind.
