Operating System Not Access Users

Dec 8, 2008

My "Users" screen is up, but we can't click on any of the Users to open them up. Can't click on "Turn off computer" either. We have to use the power button to shut down, but that doesn't help anything.Tried running a bunch of spyware scans in safe mode, but doesn't seem to be helping.

Operating System Pro No Access CD-RW Drive

Apr 18, 2005

I want to archive some files to CD in order to save HDD space, and decided to use the Windows XP facility to do this. When I insert a blank disc in the CD-RW drive (E:) nothing happens - no drop-down menu appears to ask what I want to do. (I'm told I should get a drop-down menu asking what function I wish to perform). If I try to access the drive via Windows Explorer (I also have a DVD-RW drive F:), I get an error message "E: inaccessible". What do I have to do to get Windows to recognise, and use, this drive, please? To use the facility, if available, seems so simple, which would speed up the archiving process.

Unable To Access Operating System By Any Means?

Dec 29, 2005

I have been handed a PC to "sort out". It`s OS is XP Home. The problem being, that when it is switched on, it brings up the following screen We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. Start in safe mode.Safe mode with networking.Safe mode with command prompt.Last known good configuration setting (most recent setting that worked). Start Windows normally. But whichever option you select, the computer simply reboots and brings up the above screen again.

All Users Documents Access Denied

Jun 10, 2005

I've got a question regarding my windows xp home edition machine. I've got a couple of user accounts on the machine. One is my own administrator account, called my name. I've also got a Guest account and another account called Games. My account has a password but none of the others do. In addition to these there is this mysterious "Administrator account" on my machine. When I try to log in as "Administrator" it won't let me. It tells me that I don't have proper access or something like that. What really bothers me is when I go to C:/Documents and Setting/All Users I cannot open the Documents folder. It says it's not accessible and "access is denied." I have trouble installing stuff sometimes because nothing can access this folder (and there could be others I'm not sure). Is the Administrator account the problem?

Specify The Wallpaper On Users' Desktops And Prevents Users From Changing The Image

Aug 12, 2002

To use this setting, type the fully qualified path and name of the file that stores the wallpaper image. You can type a local path, such as C:Windowswebwallpaperhome.jpg or a UNC path, such as \ServerShareCorp.jpg. If the specified file is not available when the user logs on, no wallpaper is displayed. Users cannot specify alternative wallpaper. You can also use this setting to specify that the wallpaper image be centered, tiled, or stretched. Users cannot change this specification.

Sharing Applications Between Users, Power Users And Admin

Sep 10, 2005

What is the best way to share execution priviledges between limited users, power users, and administrators?Say an application has already been installed by a higher priviledged user type, and a limited user cannot execute it - e.g. an ISP login software, or Spy Sweeper. Note: ISP login software lacks profile, so I suppose I could just create that, however, Spy Sweeper is a head scratcher.Should the application be uninstalled and reinstall under All Users? How do you install an application to allow All Users to use it?I have already tried to use the "Run As" right-click Properties w/Shift key approach and that does not work.Is there an approach with regard to local security policy that would do what I want to do? How is that done? Or, is Access Control List the way to go?

System Wont Load Operating System / Unable To Format Disks?

Aug 19, 2009

I shut off the computer and turning it back on couldn't boot up windows. It gave the windows wasn't shut down properly and I tried the normal restart option and it would just give a black screen with a blinking _ and then nothing happens. Tried loading in safe mode but it gets to mup.sys then "Press Esc to cancel SPTD.sys" flashes below and whether I press Esc or let it be, nothing happens after that.

I tried popping in the windows xp disc that came with the laptop, boot from disc, it starts up but then after loading everything, it then says "Windows is starting up" the disc stops spinning then nothing happens. I tried popping in a windows vista disc and it says "Windows is loading files" with a progress bar, when it fills up, I get stuck with a blank black screen the disc stops spinning and then nothing happens.

System Restore A Good Idea - Logon Operating System

Apr 29, 2008

The situation: A reasonably new PC, clean and working properly. Several new programs are installed, including Firefox, Winamp, desktop publishing, photo manager, and security software (not the antivirus, standalone scanners.) Everything appears to be fine.I log on to Windows Live OneCare to use their "Safety Scanner" to, as they say, check for PC health issues and optimize performance. Mind you, the site recommends users log on once a month for the full service scan. As you know, the scan includes the removal of what it refers to as invalid registry entries. "Oh boy," right? The registry. Except you'd like to believe the official Microsoft site won't screw up your programs.

System Recovery Fatal Error - No Operating System Found

This is a six year old Sony, XP, AMD 1.0Ghz. Everything was working at the time I tried the System Recovery EXCEPT I was constantly getting low space messages for drive C. I have no files on this drive and very little software. It is a 20G hard drive partioned into two 10G partitions.
