View 3 RepliesWhat is the best way to share execution priviledges between limited users, power users, and administrators?Say an application has already been installed by a higher priviledged user type, and a limited user cannot execute it - e.g. an ISP login software, or Spy Sweeper. Note: ISP login software lacks profile, so I suppose I could just create that, however, Spy Sweeper is a head scratcher.Should the application be uninstalled and reinstall under All Users? How do you install an application to allow All Users to use it?I have already tried to use the "Run As" right-click Properties w/Shift key approach and that does not work.Is there an approach with regard to local security policy that would do what I want to do? How is that done? Or, is Access Control List the way to go?

I recently installed a US Robotics 56K(V92) Faxmodem in my brother's computer after his old one was fried during a storm. After installing it and making sure the "modem-on-hold" feature worked right I then proceeded to test it in his children's limited user accounts to make sure they can get on the net also. Now, while his children were also able to log onto the net, the modem on hold program (which until now was quite impressive) will only work for users logged on as administrators.
This fact was verified by one of USR's support technicians who informed me that they had no immediate plans to change it so it would work in limited accounts. Now this is a problem because he and his children all spend a lot of time on the net, and until his name comes up on the broadband waiting list, a modem is all they have between them and the net......
When I turn on my computer I don't get the usual blue log on screen with all the users, I get some lame pop up with just one use and the only other option is so shut the computer down. When I go to user accounts, the only user that comes up is my dads, which is a limited account, so I can not do much of anything on this computer. All my options (user logg off, restart, shut down) All in old looking popups, and not the usual.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got a question regarding my windows xp home edition machine. I've got a couple of user accounts on the machine. One is my own administrator account, called my name. I've also got a Guest account and another account called Games. My account has a password but none of the others do. In addition to these there is this mysterious "Administrator account" on my machine. When I try to log in as "Administrator" it won't let me. It tells me that I don't have proper access or something like that. What really bothers me is when I go to C:/Documents and Setting/All Users I cannot open the Documents folder. It says it's not accessible and "access is denied." I have trouble installing stuff sometimes because nothing can access this folder (and there could be others I'm not sure). Is the Administrator account the problem?

You can type a local path, such as C:Windowswebwallpaperhome.jpg or a UNC path, such as \ServerShareCorp.jpg. If the specified file is not available when the user logs on, no wallpaper is displayed. Users cannot specify alternative wallpaper. You can also use this setting to specify that the wallpaper image be centered, tiled, or stretched. Users cannot change this specification.

Two other accounts are normally available on the machine, Mine (named "RedCola") which is a passworded administrator account and a non-passworded limited access account.Tonight when trying to log on I accidentally typed the wrong password. When I entered the correct password on the second time it gave me a message that my account was locked and would have to contact my administrator. I rebooted just in case and the account was not available to select, but the generic Administrator account was now there. When I went into that account to check User Accounts though the Control Panel my account (named RedCola) was not even listed. I rebooted again. At the log-in screen I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del twice and typed in my account name and password. Again, same message about the account being locked.
