I didn't establish User a/cs when I first set up my PC. I have since done so but now I can't access some progs because they are for Admin. I have tried starting in Safe Mode pressing F8 but I get an error mssge - Keyboard error. This means that when I do get into Safe Mode I can't do anything to change the settings.

I tried my email program and it was asked me to set it all up. I then went into mydocuments and it was empty. So if I go into my drive and look at Documents and Setting I normally only had Administrator, AllUsers and my other ID motopsycho. Now I have the following....Administrato Administrator.Chris

im trying to help my brother out with his computer. It used to be our family computer and when my dad gave it to my brother he deleted all users except my brother. Unfortunately my brother is a limited user and is unable to many things on the computer. Is there like a default administrator password? He is using windows XP home.When I restart the computer it has a log in screen where you type in a username and password, not the traditional windows xp login screen.

Decided to add limited accounts for wife & kids.
Every time the accounts are logged in to, they get the error message - Error - Access Denied. The process for this is LVCOMSX.EXE somethin to do with the logitech webcam me thinks.

I now have a new lodger moving in, and she needs the pc for studying. I have set her a limited account up, but how do I restrict her from a) downloading and b) accessing my folders.I have tried the share /unshare, but when I log on her as her, I can still view my own folders. If I right click on one of my folders, and then go to properties/sharing, it does say 'to share this folder with other users on the computer' drag to shared documents - I have not done this, so thoughtit would not be shared. Where it says' To make this folder and its subfolders private so that only you can access, select the follwing box' - That box is greyed out, so I cannot do anything!

View 2 Replies View RelatedHopefully I can explain my situation without dragging it out to long, but it is involved.The problem is with my wife computer which is an Emachine, Model T3265, running Win XP, Home Edition and IE 7.0.The last time my wife was on the computer was the evening of Aug 14, at which time she had been playing the card game Spider Solitaire. I am also listed as a user but only to keep it running for my wife.When she tried to use the computer the next day, Aug 15 she kept getting the message Windows can not access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item.Having come up with the same results as my wife, here is what I have been able to determine.
Be it from the Start Menu, Desk Top or Program Folder, the end result is the above .message. .It didn't matter whose account I was in, mine or my wife, or if I tried to open an executable file or program directly or with a shortcut, the results were the same. However I did find a couple of things that were quite odd. The items stored in the task bar at the bottom right side of the task bar could be opened, but only from here..These programs consisted of the Virus Program, Trend Microsoft Pecillin, messenger program and the like. I also found that if I opened Documents and Settings and then opened either my wife or my personal folder and then went to Favorites I was able to access the internet. I could not do is run Restore from system tools and when I tried use the run function in the start menu I got a pop up window which said Windows can not create a shortcut here. Do you want a shortcut placed on the desktop.Short of doing a full format and re-installation can you tell me what has happened and how to fix it?
Guest account feature is off. Two other accounts are normally available on the machine, Mine (named "RedCola") which is a passworded administrator account and a non-passworded limited access account.Tonight when trying to log on I accidentally typed the wrong password. When I entered the correct password on the second time it gave me a message that my account was locked and would have to contact my administrator. I rebooted just in case and the account was not available to select, but the generic Administrator account was now there. When I went into that account to check User Accounts though the Control Panel my account (named RedCola) was not even listed. I rebooted again. At the log-in screen I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del twice and typed in my account name and password. Again, same message about the account being locked.
View 1 Replies View Relatedsetting up more than one user logon for windows xp home edition w/ sp2 installed (using fat32). What I would like to acheive (if possible) is to limit my teenagers (2) access to certain files and programs. More specifically programs such as windows explorer (including right-click on START button), access to the "RUN" command, control panel, and other system controlling programs. I have searched on C-Net and microsoft, finding bits and peices but not all together in 1 post and not a step by step. I am not afraid to edit the registry.Also I do not want to convert this comp to ntfs (unless there is a way to back up a massive amount of data without a cd/dvd burner, as I am under the impression that a re-install of XP and reformatting of hard drive is required to switch to ntfs). What would be ideal (and maybe easier to do?) would be to have teenage-user1 and teenage-user2 logon bring up only a desktop with no taskbar and/or START button, thus allowing only access to the programs that I shortcut to the desktop (this thought just occurred to me while typing this).
These children are 15 and 16 and are smart enough to type a google search for password/registry/command prompt hacks and crackers and such. I haven't seen anything in regaurds to what I am looking for all on 1 system or complete in 1 post/step-by-step. Possibly I am not typing the correct search words, but seems alot of text for a search ( am not typing "the" "and" etc. and am using/trying as many buzzwords as I can think of...) and I get no way too much irrelavent and sometimes confusing info or no matches at all. I may be making a mountain out of a mole hill with how I want to do this, as it probably has been done before, if so a link(s) would be much appreciated as would any advice from "seasoned/in-the-know" users/programmers.
My desktop started acting strangely so I closed down programs and did a reboot which took a lot longer than normal - and later found out that my disk was full. During all of this, Windows somehow forgot where the administrator account was and created a new one that has no access. Can't open any programs, can't open Control Panel or IE. The folders for my old Administrator account are still on a second hard drive where they've always been, but Windows created a newly named Administrator account on my C: drive. I've tried the CTL ALT DEL twice trick to log in as administrator and still have the same situation. No programs work, control panel doesn't work. All give same error message, either it can't find the path or I don't have priv to access. "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."I've fixed the full C: drive issue since I can still access Windows Explorer, but can't seem to get my old Administrator account back. I can't delete the user since I can't get into Control Panel. I've started in safe mode and still have same issue.

I restarted the computer - no error message - but now it appears to be logged in as a guest (my settings have all gone - no icons for my files on desktop, etc.). When I look at the users in control panel it shows just main user and guest (i don't use the users options on windows - only me using the computer).

A couple of times recently, I have made service calls that if I could have gotten into the Administrator's account, I could have fixed it; but, some fool had changed passwords on both the user account and the Administator account.Is there a way to create an invisible account with administrator privilidges that can be accessed in some way but that doesn't show up in the log-in screen or under Users and Passwords?

View 3 Replies View Relatedthe closest we have found to our same problem is number on thread t350665..background one of our customers has run into a problem: they have been using XPhome for about a year, SP2 installed smoothly and has run well for a few months, they turned on automatic update, it installed, then next boot:problem it asked them for logon password where there was, previously, no (more specifically, blank) password. We tried booting into safe mode as admin, it also asked for a password where there was none. We have not found a default password, none of the defaults we knew for other microsoft products seem to work. The closest thing to a solution we have found is KB321305, but this article assumes they made a password disk (which they didn't, I think because they were not as suspicious of microsoft as I am), nor have admin priviledge, because the OS (or some updated part of it) seems to have forced a password on ALL accounts where they were all previously blank, so we can't even start in safe mode. They do not relish wiping their OS and starting over, and neither do I.

Just 2 days ago, my son decides to "create" his own user account and he happens to set it him up also as the "administrator". When ever we turn on the computer, it would go to a screen and it would ask us to select a user to log on as (only one avail, it's his). We'd click his user account and it goes to a desktop, however, there is only 2 icons (recycle bin and adobe reader), nothing else. Where are my files/icons? How do I fix it? I rather undo what he did but it appears that I can't delete his user account because he is the administrator.
