Just upgraded a 98se to winxp.ONE problem I'm having is getting Norton AV to work. XP security screen states that I don't have an anti-virus program.I've tried to uninstall and reinstall NAV but xp won't let me uninstall. Something about desktop is "read only" and I can't figure out how to change. I right clcik, unclick "read only" only to have it recheck itself.
View 10 Repliesupdated windows now I could no longer get online and windows stop recognizing my dvd drive. I tried restore and that fixed the internet but not the dvd drive. SO I then uninstalled sp2 but I still can't get my dvd drive to work. When I go to the control panel it tells me theres a problem with the driver but its the same driver I was using previously with no problems.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought a Dell system with XP. After upgrading(incl. new motherboard) the already installed Nike Philips MP3 player "Digital Media Manager" software wouldn't work. Nike/Philips sent me to Dell who sent me back to Nike/Philips who then sent me to Microsoft who I have so far been unable to contact successfully.Tried to uninstall software but received variety of errors, incl. some Java ones. Eventually appeared to delete it but trying to reinstall software always displays "Digital Media Manager already installed". Have tried manually removing some Registry elements but I'm clearly missing some. Does anyone know precisely which Registry elements I need to remove for a complete manual uninstallation ?

I am having a driver problem, which i find to be very weird. I cannot install, or uninstall a driver, nor can i disable on from device manager. When i try to do any of these I get either a "run DLL as an App has enountered a problem and needs to close" or if trying to do something from device manager, I get Microsoft Management Console has enountered a problem and needs to close. In the first case I believe the file was sysag.api in the second the file causing an error is mmc.exe.

I want to set up 2 users for this laptop. myself and my daughter. I have it set with myself as the admin and her as a user. I want to be able to limit the amount of damage she does to the poor thing. My main question is how to set up certain programs to work and not work for her. I have one program music match that works in admin but not on user even though it seems to say it will work for users. From what I have seen from this operating system its not real easy to set it up. I have a book from the library but its a que and not good for me. Any advise on a good book would be great. I know it would be easier to use xp or win 2000 pro but thats not nearly challenging enough for me.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI installed the SP3 today and have been kicking myself since then. I didn't even follow advice I was giving others to wait. I set a restore point before I installed it and went into Safe Mode to restore to that setting. When I checked on my Add/Remove Programs file it states the SP3 Cannot be Removed. I have read here in a few threads that some people have uninstalled it. I don't know of anyother way other than AddRemove programs. I hope I don't have to reformat. What happened was that my computer would start to boot up and hang, then I got it to boot up as far as desktopand then it will just hang.

I'm using FireFox and completely satisfied with it.I tried looking at MS's website and it tells me that I need to go into Add/Remove in teh control panel to do it.However a few weeks back I had posted saying that my Add/Remove shows nothing at all and I have to remove programs using the registry to find the uninstall string.Now, I'm no expert, or even that comfortable working with the registry but how would I go about removing IE6? In doing so, Windows XP installed setup files on MY HD. I run Win XP PRO. Not Home Ed., which is what we installed on his HD b/c that's what he had. The installation of Win Xp Home Ed went well and his computer is running fine now.Anyway, so now I have Win XP Home Ed setup files on my comp, in addition to my Win Xp Pro. Every time I restart my computer, it gives me the option of running Pro or Win Xp Setup. Not really a major biggy since I can just choose pro and go on to start my comp regularly. However, if I wanted to get rid of that and get those XP Home Ed Setup files off my computer, how would I go about it?
