I'm posting this for someone just starting out with their 1st computer.There were 2 virus scanners installed Norton and Mc Afee I tried un-installing Mc Afee but the full thing won't uninstall and the Norton is corrupt the only thing you can do is run the liveupdate when you click on 'scan for viruses' you just see the outer edges but not the whole dialog box (tried uninstalling but can't remove all the components as well.
View 1 Replieswe had to remove Visual Studio 2005...when uninstalling VS it tells you to unistall portions in order...we did that and now nothing is listed in Add/Remove Programs relating to VS at all...however, in the start menu there is MS SQL Server 2005 configuration tools...when you reboot windows xp you get an error saying SQL Server could not start...well, we don't want SQL Server 2005 on there and are trying to remove it but it is not listed in Add/Remove at all...can't find anything relating to this at all.how do we remove SQL Server 2005 configuration tools?

When I attempt to uninstall a program, the corresponding programs "uninstaller", asks for a network resource. Here is an example screen shot of what I am seeing when I attempt to uninstall Ad Aware: It doesn't seem to matter what I am attempting to uninstall. In all of the uninstall scenarios that I have seen Add / Remove programs asks for an MSI file with a similar name to the program that I am attempting to uninstall.

I ran C-cleaner today and under the 'Tools' section, found in the 'Uninstall' section several strange programs that I have never installed. I don't know whether to remove them or leave them as they are. I've had the experience of deleting some mystery programs off my old computer and then finding that something or other couldn't run, so I'm deathly afraid that the same thing will happen on my laptop. I'll list out my NEC laptop mystery program names here.
what these programs are and whether to uninstall or leave them? Here they are:

4. CP2101 USB to UART Bridge Controller
5. Internet Worm Protection (could this be part of the trial version of Norton Antivirus on my comouter?)

Like the title says, when I run Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, some of the apps have a Change/Remove button, but some (including some I really want to uninstall) have no such button. It just has a date and says how often I use the app.

I have a problem with my Installshield engine, and so I am unable to install/uninstall programs. I am running Windows XP home on a pentium IV, 2.4 GHZ with 512 ram. I think the problem started when I was installing a program called eBay Blackthorne from a download. Now, any install/uninstall is affected.
The error is "Internal error # 2738".
I was checking my daughters pc for some usual maintenance. The start programs on list suddenly dont open, computer freezes up, did the error-checking but I cannot seem to get some vital prgrams to open up. I am running a couple of recent worm tools from Symantec and so far, nothing. Could this be a hardware problem or can someone tell me something I am missing?

I was able to locate them using "search" then open and pin to start menu. (The search function displays i.e. shortcuts for "administrator", "guest" and the other user, but not for me. I set a restore point before I installed it and went into Safe Mode to restore to that setting. When I checked on my Add/Remove Programs file it states the SP3 Cannot be Removed. I have read here in a few threads that some people have uninstalled it. I don't know of anyother way other than AddRemove programs. I hope I don't have to reformat. What happened was that my computer would start to boot up and hang, then I got it to boot up as far as desktopand then it will just hang.

I'm using FireFox and completely satisfied with it.I tried looking at MS's website and it tells me that I need to go into Add/Remove in teh control panel to do it.However a few weeks back I had posted saying that my Add/Remove shows nothing at all and I have to remove programs using the registry to find the uninstall string.Now, I'm no expert, or even that comfortable working with the registry but how would I go about removing IE6?
