About ten days ago my Acer Aspire E360 (AMD 64 X2 3800, 2gb - Win Media Center 2005) started giving BSOD errors at startup. It would to into safe mode but no trouble shooting worked. Finally it wouldn't boot at all giving me the: NTLDR missing error. I downloaded the ISO that 'fixes' this error and it didn't work, saying that hal.dll was missing. My recovery disks - 6 in all - are available but when I booted from them they said that it would erase the entire C drive. In the meantime I downloaded ISOs to test the disk and the memory. Disk was fine, but there was one very bad memory stick, which I've replaced.
I don't want to lose the C: data. I did do an Acronis 10 backup just before it went totally down, but I'm not sure that the bad memory stick didn't corrupt data that's now backed up. A friend gave me a copy of a WinXP Pro (without serial number) to see if I could use the repair function. However, he only copied the files and did not clone the disk so it's not bootable. Using another computer I used Nero (Caldera DOS) to make a bootable disk. Unfortunately when I tried to boot up with it I got a warning: "EMM386 - address line A20 already enabled." and then it froze.
Auto Run and Auto Play just quit working. I did the basic, went to the drives concerned, the Auto Play is enabled, looks like.The msconfig option is out of my expertize level. Would someone know what happened, and how I can get those options working again?BTW, the System Restore quit working, too. I tried to roll back to a good working setting, but SR didn't restore. I tried several times, different dates.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought a Dell system with XP. After upgrading(incl. new motherboard) the already installed Nike Philips MP3 player "Digital Media Manager" software wouldn't work. Nike/Philips sent me to Dell who sent me back to Nike/Philips who then sent me to Microsoft who I have so far been unable to contact successfully.Tried to uninstall software but received variety of errors, incl. some Java ones. Eventually appeared to delete it but trying to reinstall software always displays "Digital Media Manager already installed". Have tried manually removing some Registry elements but I'm clearly missing some. Does anyone know precisely which Registry elements I need to remove for a complete manual uninstallation ?

However, a few days ago, everything went weird again. (But in a different way before I used the recovery cd.)All the installers didn't work. They all had errors halfway through. They created empty folders in the program files and they can't be removed. Most things in the program files now can't be removed. I also can't install some other programs and the error messages were something like I didn't have access. But I was on the administrator account. View 14 Replies View RelatedI just got a Samsung DVD/CD+RW and it's been working great. However, one thing bugs me. Auto Play will not work with it. I have options in the drive's properties menu to choose what actions the drive should take when a media CD is installed. I have it set so that any type of media is AutoPlay. There're no options for data discs. However, no matter what kind of disc, from movie to Windows XP nothing happens. I have to open up My Computer and then browse for the auto play.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an AOpen DVD Reader and a Samsung DVD Burner drive in my XP Pro SP2 system.My problem is that whenever I put any CD or DVD in either drive the auto play will not work, if I open up My Computer and click on the drive Icon it will open up in the folder list but there is no Auto Play option.I have run the CD Auto Play from K'K line 10 and also restore Auto Play Icon, line 17 but none of these have worked. I have also run the repair tool from Kelly's Korner line 234 right hand side but that is unable to repair the function.

When I go to the device manager, it's telling me that no audio device is installed and I can't seem to find it or how to reinstall it (I do not have the disk that came with the computer). However, my main concerns are the USB ports and the Plug and Play feature. These were working fine, but now nothing happens when I plug in a USB device. There is power going to the USB ports, however, the system doesn't seem to recognize that I have plugged something in. I've tried uninstalling the drivers and restarting the system, and the drivers were correctly reinstalled but it is still not finding any new device that I plug in. View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen i put my computer in standby or hibernation...about 75% of the time, when i bring it out of said state, i can use instant messaging, play online games, my internet works, but not my internet browser. neither firefox or IE works, it acts just as if i was offline. my second problem...is when using a program that opens an HTM or HTML file inside itself (counter-strike, anti-virus, just about anything), it asks me before it opens it, and if i click ok, it opens it in my internet browser, and i have no idea why. this gets REALLY annoying, especially during online gaming when i can't see in-game guides to do things, and it opens up 3-4 dialog screens before every single game.

When i try to do any of these I get either a "run DLL as an App has enountered a problem and needs to close" or if trying to do something from device manager, I get Microsoft Management Console has enountered a problem and needs to close. In the first case I believe the file was sysag.api in the second the file causing an error is mmc.exe.

View 2 Replies View Relatedwhenever I try to play music it doesnt play, it says low on memory, whenever I open any Microsoft Word program it gives me some error about a license, and whever I try to copy and paste anything, it doesnt let me. I have a few partitions on my hard drive and whenever I copy one file or a folder or anything, I cannot paste it anywhere. If I open Control Panel, the screen doesnt appear as usual, all the icons are on two columns on the lft side with a scroll bar next to them. If I try to open Add/Remove programs, it comes up all garbled. I was going to just reformat the whole computer but it will not boot from the cd rom drive now. And whenever the computer is booted in W2K and I try to browse the CD in My Computer, it just says "Please insert disk in drive...." Also, whenevr I restart, it sits on my desktop for about 5 minutes before it finally brings up the icons and everything. It has never done any of this, it just started this morning.
