I have a computer that I just put a new hard drive into with fresh install of Win XP home. It's an Intel board and the start up always pauses after the messages that it's detected a keyboard and mouse and
usb. Then it pauses and just says press F1 to continue. Pressing F1 makes it continue to start up normally.
I have reset the Bios values to defaults and tried to change several of them, with not effect at all. If I unplug the keyboard it sometimes skips the F1 pause. The intel website has not proved helpful. They don't have any discussion groups either.
I'm using a pentium3, micronpc. I'm running on xp pro. press alt+Ctrl+Del for the pc to continue start-up. I've already gone into the BIOS settings and changed the boot sequence around but it's still not conrected the problem.
A friend of mine gave me a few computers- because his office was upgrading all of their systems- I reformatted many of them and installed windows me (they are too slow to support xp), but I am having a problem with one. Originally it had windows 2000 pro as the os( I didn't have the password to log-into the computer) So I ran fdisk, formatted the hard drive, then tried to install the new os but I keep getting the error message upon booting that "invalid system disk, remove then press any key to continue".
I thought the cd-rom was bad so I replaced it, I changed the boot sequence, used a floppy to boot, even got the hard drive manufacturer's utility program to prep the drive for the os but even that doesn't work. Am I missing something? Does the fact that I didn't have the password to enter the computer have anything to do with this? I used this same method for installing me on all the other systems and they are fine, but this one is an issue.
I am running XP Pro on a laptop loaded with programs and files. When I recently started it up, instead of loading with the familiar Compaq logo, it started in a DOS program (Phoenix BIOS) with a warning that "it had not been shut down correctly last time." I think I did shut it down correctly last time. The BIOS offered me two options. 1) Hit F1 to Boot or 2) Hit F10 to continue. I hit F10. That took me to a screen where I had to guess what to choose. Did I want to Save and Exit? Did I want to Escape and abandon changes? etc. I didn't know what to do but it seems I had not made any changes so I said "abandon changes and boot
once the on button was pushed, it came up with the BIOS screen asking for the password.I removed the CMOS battery, which allowed me to change the Password so I can get onto BIOS now. However, when I boot now it just comes up with the BIOS screen.I set HD to boot first, aswell as setting the clock and date. I then ask it to save and quit, after which it shut's down, and reboots, only, BIOS keeps coming up. And I need to get this sorted asap
I have had windows XP Pro installed, updated and running fine until about a week ago. I was away from home for about a week and left the machine plugged into the mains but powered down. When I returned home to boot up, it kept doing things like constantly hanging on parts of the bios POST screen, eventually booting up after thirty or so complete restarts. It finally booted into windows but after the last shutting down, it will now not boot up at all. I have replaced the bios battery and reset the bios several times.
When I turn on my computer, it does the bios check, then goes into the bios screen on its own. I have checked all of the bios settings, and see nothing set wrong. The only way I can get itno my xp pro system, is to use "F8" during the bios check, the select my hd from there, then it seems only half of my programs work, and it also seems to be randomly changing the programs that do not work, when I do this.
Got a bit of a problem with my housemates pc.A friend gave him some extra RAM, i checked it out and it was crucial 512mb pc2100 CL2.5, and although it didn't match his exsisting RAM it seemed to me that his mobo would only run the FSB at 200mhz anyway so i went ahead and fitted it.It worked fine I then noticed his system temp was running a little high (60-65 degrees), so i took his heatsink off and cleaned the dust and refitted it with some new thermal compound.I added too much and the temp went up. To nearly 90 degrees.I shut it dwon as i didn't want the cpu to pop, cleaned it off, reapplied less compound and figured this would work fine. Now we have the problem. Most of the time: Power on and nothing happens. No bios, no beeps. Occasionally: Power on, i jump into the bios, the temp looks fine (30-40 degrees) and then it freezes right there in the bios after about 30 seconds to a minute. This sounds like a heat issue, but the last temp reading before freeze is 33 degrees.?I've double and triple checked that the heatsink is on properly and thats fine. I followed the official guide on how much compound to use (a blob the size of an uncooked short grain of rice).
Im new to PCs and since my motherboard is three years old is it a good idea to upgrade? I contacted the maker of my motherboard and they say an upgrade is available and sent it to me for { DON'T CRACKUP} $49.00. I already read that you can really mess up your PC if you do one thing wrong when upgrading. Am I a fool for buying the upgrade? Please let me know as I can send the Floppy discs back.
I have ibm thinkpad R51 2887 nq2 series .My system has been crashed as it is not starting. The whole system gets hang after showing the first ibm screen. I just flashed/upgraded my BIOS for my motherboard, and now XP doesn't even boot up. After the BIOS load, I get a "MBR error 2" message and it just stays there. My board is an Asus P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe. I used the Asus Update Utility to flash my BIOS.
I've been trying to reinstall XP Pro sp2 for the past several days. I have:
1. Used the XP Pro CD, but after it loads the XP tools, I get a BSOD saying can't continue, check for viruses & rund Scandisk. 2. Went to My Computer/disk management, left click on drive I want formatted, but "format" is grayed out. 3. Ran Kaspersky internet security 2009 and eliminated any malware detected plus ran scandisk with no consequences. 4. Tried 1 & 2 again with the same results.

I have tried repeatedly to download Webroot Window washer ver 6.5 to my wife's computer. For some reason the download arrives with the select language menu vacant. When you click on the dropdown menu, it is also blank. You cannot continue past this screen. My wife has McAfee Virus Scan and Spybot Search and Destroy plus the firewall that Microsoft supplies. Could these interfere with the download? If so, how do I temporarily disable them so I can download Window Washer. As an alternative, can someone suggest another program which will function like Window Washer?
I am trying to install xp on it and having nothing but problems. It runs through the set up and then gets so far and says that there is a problem with the set up and installation cannot continue. It says that it could be a damaged disk. The disk is not damaged, as it is brand new. I called the manuf. of the hdd and they said it is a windows problem. I am getting a stop error screen with the following information:
Problem caused by the following file: partmgr.sys DRIVER_UNLOADED_WITHOUT_CANCELLING_PENDING_OPERATIONS
Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. Tech Information: *** STOP: 0x000000CE (0xF87CD667, 0x00000000, 0xF87CD667, 0x00000000) partmgr.sys

I have Windows XP on a Compaq laptop. When I turn it on, it attempts to boot up. It starts out normally, flashing the Compaq logo, then the Microsoft logo but seems to get hung up there and won't continue. The MS logo stays on the screen. There are no error messages. Is this a virus? If it is, how do I remove a virus if I can't log on?
I have Windows XP Home installed on my computer as my OS. Recently, I've been cleaning out my computer by uninstalling programs that I haven't used for a while. However, the uninstallation of some programs fails. For example, I have a software called JapaneseNow! (to learn Japanese) installed on my computer. However, trying to uninstall it pops up the error message that "Uninst.isu" cannot be found and therefore the uninstallation cannot continue. I already cleared off a software called SpanishNow! beforehand, which may have caused Uninst.isu to be cleared....
I'm reinstalling my XP Pro OS and I need a file for Extreme Graphics Controller Windows 2000/XP installation disk. The message states I need this file 'ialmnt5.sys'. An odd problem is occurring,,,If I do a search for outlook.pst, the search finds it and Shows that it resides at C:Documents and SettingsGalLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftOutlook When I attempt to follow the path using Windows Explorer I go to the C: drive, Navigate to Documents and Settings, then Gal, then no local settings folder is shown. When I boot up my computer, I get several messages from Windows which read this way: "[insert file with a .exe extension here] - Corrupt File The file or directory C:WINDOWSsystem32UACmqiemusiwu.dll is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility." This message comes up every time that I try to run an executable file and seems to prevent some of them from running altogether. I can run Chkdsk in Safe Mode, but after it completes file verification it says "Errors found. CHKDSK cannot continue in read only mode." I have a virus (Total Security 2009) that is preventing the computer from displaying the command prompt in regular mode, but the programs that I need to get ride of the virus are all executable and cant be installed because of this glitch. Any help with what this file UACmqiemusiwu.dll is or how to fix it would be great. I've tried deleting it, but the computer won't let me because it is corrupt and unreadable.
I installed an anti virus program and restarted it. it turned to a screen to boot windows safely. But it couldn't continue. I fixed now by reinstalling but can anyone tell what was the problem.
