when I try to move a file using "Move To Folder" Windows Explorer says it has encountered a problem and must shutdown then after I close that dialog (send error report/or not) Dr Watson Post Mortem Debugger does the same computer locks up except I can use Task Manager to reboot.
View 5 Repliesalrighty, here's what's happening. theres a folder with a ton of music in it that I created for the sole purpose of gathering it all in one place. now, when you rollover the folder icon, double click it, explore it, search it, open it, etc, you get the send/dont-send windows error and explorer crashes and restarts when you click dont-send.

However now I seem to have ended up with a few corrupt Folders/Files.Whenever I try to run a Norton Antivirus scan or any number of Spyware removal programs such as Spybot, Spysweeper, Ewido, Ad-Aware etc they all get stuck or crash on one particular general data Folder. View 1 Replies View RelatedMy pc is so slow that it takes ages to play a song in wmp11. Ive used tools like ad-aware and registry mechanic, tune up utilities. But still no improvement. It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. And the processor is hogged, at the highest level, even though i killed many a startup processes.

The error message above is in the Application Event Log. the Event ID is 1000. Done some searches and tried a few things but still user gets this error. After this error in the Event Log another message is "The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted. The Event ID is 1002 for this one.

I am having problems starting both Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer. Both generate the same error: "Internet (or Windows) Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The details show that ole32.dll is the guilty module. So far I've had no success in locating a solution. I am using Windows XP Home Edition. I should also note that the control panel won't function either since it is basically part of Windows Explorer.

In the attached screen shots, you will see I have no folder trees in any of the pop up Add, Move, or Copy pop ups in Explorer and Windows Media Player. I have no clue if this can be restored to show again. This has happened before I upgraded Media Player so it shouldnt be that. I'm thinking Windows Corruption somewhere.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was moving about 450gb of music from my old external (which was almost completely out of space, 465gb) to an internal 1tb drive. I was installing/setting up a program, thinking 'no way this will affect the file transfer', when suddenly that program gave an error (can give specifics on this if needed). Immediately after, my files stopped moving. It said 'delayed write failed, data has been lost' or something like that. I looked on my external, and it was empty. At this point i was rather upset because i thought i had lost years worth of music. Since I thought i had lost all my data, i tried one of those recovery programs("diskdigger") And it couldn't even access the drive. Gave an error, then showed it as 0gb. But the drive properties still showed 300+ gb even though the only folder in it was shown as empty.
So, i did the classic windows fix-all, restarted. My computer would not even go past the motherboard boot screen for 5 minutes. At this point i was about to jump out the window, but i restarted again and it worked. I went to my external, all my folders were there, i could open all the subfolders, play the music with vlc, etc. BUT now when i try to move the folder with all my music, it says "Cannot move file: Cannot read from source file or disk".
I can move the my documents folder, however upon reboot, it is moved back to the default location

When my files in "My Documents" outgrew my hard drive's capacity a while back I bought a new hard drive and decided to move my "My Documents" onto the new F: drive, leaving everything else on the original hard drive. It seemed like the simplest solution to my problem at the time. The situation does create a few syntax problems revolving around the question "When is the 'My Documents' folder not really the 'My Documents' system folder?" Most of the time I don't have any problems with the arrangement, but there are a couple of anomalies. At present my command line environment variables do not have any easy way to point to "My Documents" because (for example) %userprofile%My Documents points to the folder on c: that used to be the 'My Documents' system folder rather than to the current location of the system folder.
That is not usually a big deal but it may be related to the more frequent problem. A few ill-behaved programs expect to find and store files in %userprofile%My Documents (which is on C: drive) rather than in the actual system folder "My Documents" on F: which makes it harder to find these files when I search for them. Just to 'simplify' the situation I thought about setting a reparse point in the old "My Documents" folder ( %userprofile%My Documents ) that points to the actual system folder (which is F:My Documents ) Tinkering with settings like this has potential to break things in unexpected ways so I thought I'd ask whether there are any obvious problems with the 'solution'. Or are there better ways to keep the user documents on a second hard drive?
I have a laptop running XP pro and whenever I try to rename, move or delete a file in explorer, DRWatson(kind soul that he is), pops up to tell me that he has encountered a problem and he needs to close. He then gives me the option to send an error report to microsoft. After sending numerous copies of these error reports to bill and not recieving anything in return, I thought it was about time I tried someone else. This is how I came upon this excellent site and after reading some of the posts, I am hopefull that there is a knowledgeable person on board who will be able to help me. The error report from DrWatson is below. If anyone can understand it and knows what the problem is, please let me know because at the moment I cannot do anything with my files or folders and it is driving me mad. The error report says:

I don't have the windows bar (the one with the start) and I can only run programs through the CTRL+ALT+DEL and having a new task created. I was contaminated with several trojans/worms/etc but I think now I clean, since i already run Spyware Dr. and Spybot. I also already run Trend micro online clean and I have avast antivirus installed.

This happens whenever accessing My Computer or accesing files in ext drives.In Safe Mode I tried Ad-Aware, SpySweeper, spybot, and some others.I disabled Dr Watson. Now I get this error when accessing problem areas on my comp;So when I click OK explorer crashes... but doesn't freeze up like it did with DrWatson enabled.
View 9 Replies View RelatedEverything seems to be working without a problem. And after running numerous virus scans and spyware scans, I don't pick up any problems. However, every time I open up a folder which has some of my movies in it my computer hangs. Actually only windows explorer hangs, everything else functions fine, but my taskbar becomes un-clickable and the folders hang. I then close the drwtsn process and it all resets. I don't really want to delete the folder with my movies so is there any way to do anything about this?

When I try to create a new folder on this CD and rename it after the "new folder" appears, the system crashes and reboots itself. I have been able to do this without any problem before and this has suddenly just occurred. I can't be sure if this is the first time I have tried this since updating to SP2. Can this be a problem with Windows Explorer?

I can make it happen consistently by going to the eighth level of sub-folders.It just closes Explorer and then everything comes back up (except for Explorer or my email if I was attaching a file).
I have tried everything, including a reparative install of Windows XP Pro. I have run sfc /scannow. I try to do regsvr32 ntdll.dll and I get the following error:
ntdll.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. The file can not be registered.
I have run Ad Aware SE, SpySweeper and Spybot (and even a TDS-3 full system scan). Spyware/virus is not the problem. Caches/temps are cleared, she defrags fine. This is a Dell Latitude 600m 1.6GHz 768MB.
I log into my account, windows loads up and during start up, explorer.exe just crashes, it completly removes itself from the task manager every 20 seconds, desktop icons then dissapear with only the wallpaper/background showing. This is a real problem, I've used Spy Doctor and Kaspersky, it found a few malware and trojans and my system appears to be clean however my explorer.exe continues to crash every 20 seconds, forcing me to launch programs through task manager in order for me to function on the Computer. I've read up this problem throughout google and tried some of the advice thats been given to others with a similar problem as the one im facing with however it still crashes.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI first noticed that explorer would crash a few weeks ago after I stumbled across an infected .wmf file while surfing the net. I was logged in under my limited account and my anti-virus detected the .wmf but it could not take action, I believe due to the fact I use system restore. I finally was able to delete the .wmf after which I ran several different scans and could not detect anything except Microsoft (R) HTML Application host had been altered (24,576 bytes to 24,064 bytes), so I replaced the file (note: explorer was already crashing before this point). The only time it seems to crash is once in a while when I click on My Document, Control Panel, My Pictures etc.

Every time i try to run any program to help, it says Windows Explorer is not responding, furthermore, i cannot access the internet. When i try to access the network connections, it says to make sure Network Connections is running. Also, i just deleted a trojan, i cannot recall the name, but AVG couldnt delete it. I saw it was located in the temp internet files folder, so i just cleared it. It also said there was a change in kernel32, but i've been told thats rather common.

At login screen I put my credentials, it starts to load my desktop and then, before anything can load appears a message saying this (or something like this):Explorer.exe must restart because it can load an application.I click on Ok and then nothing happens. I only see my desktop background.Well, I reset the computer pushing the button on the PC. I load Windows XP on fail-safe mode and login as Adminitrator. Everthing goes well.Then, I reboot Windows by software to start Windows as the usual way. Then, I login on my session and it works well, I have no explorer crash and I can work.But this is not the key to solve the error because it returns to happen.

For about a week now when you start windows and login as a user or administrator and even safe mode explorer crashes as soon as it starts and every time you try to restart explorer it crashes again. I can do ctrl-alt-del an start a new task other than explorer and the task works just fine but explorer will not work. I've ran anti-virus and spy-ware software and found nothing. I've removed all software that isn't a Microsoft product and still no luck. I would just reinstall windows but I can't find the CD.
