My latest reformat of XP Home SP2 and loading of all my programs (Word was installed through MS Works 6.0) and all latest updates has somehow caused the clock to now show the day of the week in the taskbar, under the clock. Have tried reducing size of the Task Bar -- have checked customize under TaskBar settings, but it doesn't include anything obviously jumping out at me and saying "day of week".

View 2 Replies View Relatedmy e6400 cpu does not show up in device manager. it shows up in the bios, and it shows up in the system information screen that lists your computer name, memory installed etc. it does not appear in device manager and task manager only shows one cpu. this is an intel core2 duo processor. system works good just doesnt show up in device manager in windows xp sp2.

While the laptop was being repaired I used an enclosure to access my data and changed the permissions on it several times and I think that may be part of my problem. When I first put it in I could access everything okay, but first I had to change my permissions which I did. After that I tried installing new software (itunes) and it said I didn't have proper access, so I went in and messed with the permissions again. Now after I log on I'm greeting with a black screen. I can access the task manager, but nothing else

View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I go into Documents and Settings folder, I always get this "popup" window named "Sign in with Microsoft Passport Network" and I don't feel safe even though it probably really is from Microsoft. More so, it's just plain annoying as hell when I'm trying to navigate through Documents and Settings.On another forums board, someone suggested I create a new key in my registry which appeared to be a new key to suppress the "popup". I didn't feel safe doing that even though I've worked in my registry before, because this person who suggested this, didn't have any credentials, just a mere 4 prior posts to that forum, hence I don't feel safe trying that.Can you please tell me how to keep this window from popping up everytime I go into Documents and Settings?

When I do a Task Manager or Ctrl Alt Delete, the little green square is full up and this is with no programs running except Windows. I am using Finity Soft Memory Manager and this program says Free Ram 54%, Memory Load Index 44%, and CPU 100%. How do I find out what programs are running other than using Task Manager which shows no programs running?

I used the Change Icon feature to put the desktop icon back to the 6 style, because ironically I like it better. But when I download something or IE opens a seperate window, the bar still has the IE 7 icon. For some reason, this BUGS ME to no end. How do I get all of IE's icons back permanently to the 6 look?
View 9 Replies View RelatedOk so heres the deal with what hapened to me yesterday night.I come home from work my pc is always on 24/7 and so i just open the screen to see i have a write error says something about windows duno what system file that had a write error something to do with the nero folder then i click ok and i have 10 million errors to click ok to after wards and it says in a lil ! sign pop up down that i had a write failure that may have been caused by a system failure or something. when im done clicking the oks to the errors my pc wont respond only the mouse would move the rest was frozen. So i restart and get the windows splashscreen loading forever

If I reinstall on the 950GB side of the disk can I some how move what ever file tells windows that programs are installed to the new install? because now I'm out of space at first I thought that the 10GB would work if I didnt install anything on the windows partition but now I'm F-ed!
View 6 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine told me the other day that he had downloaded a third party system clock because his did not show the day of the week in the tool tip that appears when you hover over the time. He said the rest of the computers in his house did and that they were all running XP. At first I didn't think that this was even a feature of XP. My computer also does not do this. Today at work however, I just so happened to hover over the time and noticed that the tool tip did contain the day of the week. I am always double clicking the clock to check the day of the week at home and this feature would be quite useful.What's going on here? How do you get the day of the week to appear? I checked the system clock settings and there is nothing in there. Google's no help either.

However, when booting up, it attempts to open OE before opening my Wireless Network Connection and naturally, it can't do the OE Send & Receive when opening. Is there any way to regulate what order programs in the Start Programs are opened, i.e., to open the Wireless Network Connection first?

I am trying to create a task using Task Scheduler, and it asks me to "set account information". I am given three boxes. One of them, marked Run as has "COMPUTERJesse" already filled in. The other two are marked Password and Confirm Password. when i open Partition Magic 8 i see my Maxtor 6Y120P0 drive in a yellow color and the file system marked as "other": but my Windows 2000 Disk Management shows healty:
under windows i can read and write to the partition, so what is wrong? what does Partition Magic wants?
I recently downloaded some media files and straight after my computer slowed down to a crawl and then would not respond. The mouse pointer remains active but i cannot click on anything succesfully. The task bar and task manager do not respond at all, i can open files saved on my desktop but cannot do anything when they're open and cannot close them again. I reset my PC a number of times but this did not solve the problem. I assume this is a virus or spyware problem but could it possibly be anything else?

View 1 Replies View RelatedDid a clean install of xp a few months back, when I booted it up shows 2 copies of windows. The (default) gives me an error when I try to boot it. Never really bothered me before but I need to be able to have windows restart automatically now. There is only one OS, no dual booting what so ever. If I go into Start up and Recovery only one OS is shown. So I can't switch the default, that would be to easy. Anyone have any ideas? This is what my boot.ini looks like

I recently baught a new hard drive and intalled windows xp pro sp2 on it. I made 2 partitions on this drive, one for the system and on the other one (D) I put the majority of any user files I might have had (inc. mp3's, avi's, mpg's, jpg's, etc.). Everything was fine at first, and after a week or so, my D partition shows up on my computer but is inaccessible. I get "Disk is not formatted" whenever I try to access it.I have a lot of recordings on that drive that have no backup anywhere.

1. In a folder window (ie My Computer or Explorer) the title bar only shows
the first letter of the path. If the path is C: emp the "C" is displayed if
D:archive then "D" is displayed. I have tried going to "Tools--->folder
option ---->view and select "show full path in title bar" and checking and
unchecking. I have tried different fonts and different size fonts.But still
the title bar is unchanged.
A small program called Window XP Key Viewer shows my OS key differently. I have no idea about the reliability of this program. If anyone of you have some idea about this matter please help me.Does OS changed the key that I used when I installed the OS for security reason? Is there anyway to check the serial number of my OS.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI always liked how in WinXP, in Windows Explorer it shows zip files in the left window, as if they were sub files, allowing their contents to be viewed in the right window with a single click. However, mine has suddenly stopped doing that, zip files now only show up on the right of the screen. Anyone know why this would happen, and a quick fix?
