Okay, so I had installed IE 7 Beta, but then I went back to 6. I used the Change Icon feature to put the desktop icon back to the 6 style, because ironically I like it better. But when I download something or IE opens a seperate window, the bar still has the IE 7 icon. For some reason, this BUGS ME to no end. How do I get all of IE's icons back permanently to the 6 look?

Now, after the cleaning activity as explained by techguys, everything seems going well. All programs do start without problems (through the start-menu or the quick-start taskbar), but there is a small drawback: my desktop screen shows only my wallpaper, there are no icons. The right-mouse click on the desktop also doesn't work (although the desktopsettings are accessible through the control panel). I use WinXP pro. what is wrong and how do I get the icons back on the screen?

View 4 Replies View RelatedOk so heres the deal with what hapened to me yesterday night.I come home from work my pc is always on 24/7 and so i just open the screen to see i have a write error says something about windows duno what system file that had a write error something to do with the nero folder then i click ok and i have 10 million errors to click ok to after wards and it says in a lil ! sign pop up down that i had a write failure that may have been caused by a system failure or something. when im done clicking the oks to the errors my pc wont respond only the mouse would move the rest was frozen. So i restart and get the windows splashscreen loading forever
View 11 Replies View RelatedI remember few days ago.. my kaspersky identified some system file as a trojan.. so it probably a misunderstanding when i was installing system mechanic. it got deleted.. and i have this automatic option to delete them after they are put in backup in kaspersky.
now whenever i open my pc, my desktop and taskbar and start menu,etc goes away after a few seconds! Now i rely on the task manager..
Several unwanted desktop icons appeared recently (I think they come via Search2000 when IE is used). They won't right-click for deletion, nor will they allow themselves to be drop-dragged to the recycle bin. They don't appear in the desktop icon list when using the desktop cleanup feature.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy latest reformat of XP Home SP2 and loading of all my programs (Word was installed through MS Works 6.0) and all latest updates has somehow caused the clock to now show the day of the week in the taskbar, under the clock. Have tried reducing size of the Task Bar -- have checked customize under TaskBar settings, but it doesn't include anything obviously jumping out at me and saying "day of week".

However, when booting up, it attempts to open OE before opening my Wireless Network Connection and naturally, it can't do the OE Send & Receive when opening. View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm going to try a system restore and I need to close all open programs. Does this mean I need to close Norton Antivirus, Spybot and Ad-Aware too? What about programs that run in the background that you don't see? I've never worried about this when installing software--just left them running--but I don't want to mess up with system restore. I have lots of disc space and plenty of memory, if this makes any difference.

SITUATION:
Last Night I noticed when I was editing that some of my avi exports were all distorted and fragmented... So i figured "I havent EVER ran defrag (stupid me) on this hard drive maybe I should defrag it" So I looked into a defrag program called "diskeeper" I defragged C: (windows drive) and attempted to defrag D:.... I came to my comp and discovered an error that just said failure with the drive or something... After that I could not access (D I restarted, diskcheck did not work, and I dont want to do system restore... I posted on another websites forum and someone said I probably went over the 137GB limit... I think when I went over the 137GB limit, it possibly overflowed over some kind of boot files or something that lets windows read the disk i dont know (not that techincal with computers)So i looked into that, and I have an ATA card... and Windows NO service pack XP pro... Ive heard things about having a 48 bit bios or something... And after installing WINDOWS XP SP1... I try to get on my computer and i load windows
On my HP laptop, I can not move any of the desktop icons. They snap back to original position when released.
"Auto Arrange" is not checked. I have tried with "Align to Grid" both on and off. "Lock Web Items on Desktop" is not checked.
When i was on the net i clicked save web page as to see what would happen. Now all my icons on my desktop look like they are highlighted when they are not.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI wanted to change icons on my desktop. so i was looking for the function, went into folder options, then to file types tab, I clicked on file folders, then on advanced. Didn't select anything, clicked ok. After that every time I click on a folder it would open in acdsee. So I went back there, couldn't find a setting to readjust it, then added a new command to open folders in explorer. Now each folder I click on opens in a new window.

He was cleaning his keyboard off and he must have hit some kind of key combination, because all his desktop icons disappeared except for the My Computer and Recycle Bin ones. I guess he had a bunch on there that he needed, but couldn't find them. They weren't in the Recycle Bin and a file search didn't turn any of them up.

The computer is scanned every day with AVG 7.5 Internet Security for viruses and spyware. View 6 Replies View RelatedI opened that stupid E-card virus I think. Now all i've been getting is tons of pop-ups. I read in a forum to just let it run it's course and eventually it would stop, or to do a bunch of stuff that I didn't understand. So, I ran all of my anti-virus' and ad aware and ccleaner and regcure and still I'm getting tons of popups but I was just going to be patient and let it run it's course. But now I keep getting this new message and when I close the message it ends up causing my taskbar and icons to go away. I was continually restarting my computer to get them back and thinking I would just not close the message in hopes that I could at least copy my documents over to another computer. I have not been able to do that so far and I'm freaking out. I use this computer for work. I am very new at this and this is my first post so please bear with me. I did read a few posts and realized that most people do ask for that Hijack This report thing, so I've done that and will post it next.
