When my wife boots up her PC, her desktop icons take a very long time to appear.i have applied only a few important programs to run in the startup. The computer is scanned every day with AVG 7.5 Internet Security for viruses and spyware. I have used Spybot and Windows Defender which all have given negitive results.I have also defragged the disk drive as well.The computer is running Windows XP.

As i start up my computer i become stuck with the desktop background after the welcome screen and the desktop icons and start button arrive too late almost taking more than 8 minutes... i am sure windows has loaded and i could hear the start up sound but not the icons and taskbar which appears only after long time.i have analyzed this problem for all these weeks ..i have come up with the conclusion that its a RPC(Remote Procedure Call) which is creating this problem..i diagnosed this when i could still start up task manager when i have desktop background and i end an svchost.exe process....Suddently a shutdown screen with a time down count of 1 minute appears saying that(RPC has been unexpectedly terminated..the system is going to shut down..save ur work..blah blah) ...But then all icons starts appearing and taskbar gets loaded...i rush into run command and type "shutdown -a" and the screen closes and i continue my work..

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy Taskbar and Icons take a long time to appear on the desktop. This started a couple of days ago, but I have since restored the system back to well before this problem started with no luck. I have run AVG and Stinger anti virus scans, as well as MS anti-spyware, Spybot, Adaware, Bazooka, SpywareBlaster, and RegScrubXP, but no help. When my desktop appears, I notice under Processes in Task Manager, that only about half of the 40 or so processes have started. Then after a minute or longer the rest of the processes load. This may be normal, I don't know. Could the processes loading sequence have changed, causing the Taskbar and Icons to load at a later time? Also listed among the processes is Isass.exe which has a scary ring to it. I'll have to Google that one.

View 7 Replies View RelatedCurrently using XP Pro, SP2 with P4 3.2, 1GB RAM, 80GB HDD (90% free). While using explorer to open a folder and display the files in it, the illustrator (ai) files (hundreds of it in one folder) were shown with the generic/windows system icons first and gradually been transform to the Illustrator files icon. The process took so long and made a system in hold/freeze. It happens as well when tried open files using File Open in Adobe Illustrator or Design in the very same folder and files. I've tried solve it using Display Appearance Effect as well as using regedit to modify the value on Max Cached Icons in registry but didn't work.

Now, after the cleaning activity as explained by techguys, everything seems going well. All programs do start without problems (through the start-menu or the quick-start taskbar), but there is a small drawback: my desktop screen shows only my wallpaper, there are no icons. View 4 Replies View RelatedI remember few days ago.. my kaspersky identified some system file as a trojan.. so it probably a misunderstanding when i was installing system mechanic. it got deleted.. and i have this automatic option to delete them after they are put in backup in kaspersky.
now whenever i open my pc, my desktop and taskbar and start menu,etc goes away after a few seconds! Now i rely on the task manager..
Several unwanted desktop icons appeared recently (I think they come via Search2000 when IE is used). They won't right-click for deletion, nor will they allow themselves to be drop-dragged to the recycle bin. They don't appear in the desktop icon list when using the desktop cleanup feature.

SITUATION:
Last Night I noticed when I was editing that some of my avi exports were all distorted and fragmented... So i figured "I havent EVER ran defrag (stupid me) on this hard drive maybe I should defrag it" So I looked into a defrag program called "diskeeper" I defragged C: (windows drive) and attempted to defrag D:.... I came to my comp and discovered an error that just said failure with the drive or something... After that I could not access (D I restarted, diskcheck did not work, and I dont want to do system restore... I posted on another websites forum and someone said I probably went over the 137GB limit... I think when I went over the 137GB limit, it possibly overflowed over some kind of boot files or something that lets windows read the disk i dont know (not that techincal with computers)So i looked into that, and I have an ATA card... and Windows NO service pack XP pro... Ive heard things about having a 48 bit bios or something... And after installing WINDOWS XP SP1... I try to get on my computer and i load windows
On my HP laptop, I can not move any of the desktop icons. They snap back to original position when released.
"Auto Arrange" is not checked. I have tried with "Align to Grid" both on and off. "Lock Web Items on Desktop" is not checked.
When i was on the net i clicked save web page as to see what would happen. Now all my icons on my desktop look like they are highlighted when they are not.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI wanted to change icons on my desktop. so i was looking for the function, went into folder options, then to file types tab, I clicked on file folders, then on advanced. Didn't select anything, clicked ok. After that every time I click on a folder it would open in acdsee. So I went back there, couldn't find a setting to readjust it, then added a new command to open folders in explorer. Now each folder I click on opens in a new window.

He was cleaning his keyboard off and he must have hit some kind of key combination, because all his desktop icons disappeared except for the My Computer and Recycle Bin ones. I guess he had a bunch on there that he needed, but couldn't find them. They weren't in the Recycle Bin and a file search didn't turn any of them up.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI opened that stupid E-card virus I think. Now all i've been getting is tons of pop-ups. I read in a forum to just let it run it's course and eventually it would stop, or to do a bunch of stuff that I didn't understand. So, I ran all of my anti-virus' and ad aware and ccleaner and regcure and still I'm getting tons of popups but I was just going to be patient and let it run it's course. But now I keep getting this new message and when I close the message it ends up causing my taskbar and icons to go away. I was continually restarting my computer to get them back and thinking I would just not close the message in hopes that I could at least copy my documents over to another computer. I have not been able to do that so far and I'm freaking out. I use this computer for work. I am very new at this and this is my first post so please bear with me. I did read a few posts and realized that most people do ask for that Hijack This report thing, so I've done that and will post it next.
