Show the Map Nework Drive button. Navigate in the registry to HKEY_CURRENT_USER SoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced subkey and set the value for MapNetDrvBtn to 1. The Map Network Drive button will appear in Windows Explorer and My Computer toolbars.
View 9 Repliesi was prompted to restart my dell machine running windows xp pro at work this morning by mcafee. when i did so it started up with no task bar/start button. program icons were displayed, and programs would load when icons were clicked on. however i soon noticed that i could not cut and paste in illustrator. i cannot even cut and paste in any program, and cannot drag documents from one location to another.my network is no longer available either, including internet.

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy office has a number of mapped network drives for each user which, unfortunately, start at drive letter F.Each time a USB device is used on the computer it is also automatically assigned the drive letter F (presuming that C is hard disk and D and E are CD/DVD drives). This has to be manually changed from within Disk Management.Apparently this is as a result of physical drives taking precedent over the mapped network drives.Is there any workaround for this other than moving the mapped drive letters further along in the alphabet? - this is not really a feasible solution at this time.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've connected an external USB drive, but when I go to My Computer it shows it as a network drive. In addition, it gives it the same name as the mapped network drive that already exists there. When I change the name of the external drive there, it then changes the name of the mapped network drive, so again they both have the same name, although the drive letters are different. Any ideas how to make the external drive appear where it belongs in My Computer, under Hard Disk drives?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 3 drives mapped on a WinXP Media Center Edition machine, which always show up as Disconnected Network Drive with every boot. I can access them if i double click them, and then they are marked as connected.This is a problem, however, because when i load up Media Center, I have these 3 drives mapped under My Video, and they won't display. What I am doing now, is remoting into the system every time I boot it, opening each mapped drive, and then launching Media Center. But, this is a pain in the ***, because I jsut want to boot up and go with the remote control.

She's actually made a shortcut on the desktop for it.Try mapping the drive however, and it say Access is Denied every time. Try to disconnect the drive and it tells you the files are in use (because they are, but not through the map). So to reiterate those two methods of network access I listed above have both been tried.
I am still working on this one. Okay, a Dell Desktop running XP Home. An IBM laptop running the same. DSL and a Lynksys Wireless B router connecting all. AGV anti virus on Dell. All adapters attached. Norton on laptop. File and printer sharing enabled on both. Of course, there's the Windows Firewall on both. I can ping the laptop from the dell but can't ping the dell from the laptop. I get the message no network drive/resource. Can someone please tell me what I am missing?

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn my Network Connections it shows nothing. It is just white space. In my system tray, at the bottom right-hand corner of my screen, it shows no flashing computers. This has been so for around five months, I'm guessing. It never really bothered me until lately, and here is what I have done in order to fix it (to no avail, obviously):- Installed all critical Windows updates
- Ran Ad-Aware entire system scan (it's my only anti-virus program)- Tried to make a new network connection, but according to Windows, I have no network hardware, either- Put my Windows installation CD into my CD drive, went to "Install Optional Windows Components," and installed everything network related, then restarted.

Am now able to access the Samba shares from my Windows Vista machine WITHOUT entering username/password for my Samba user because I made a Samba user equal to my Vista windows user "masterdam79".
I WAS able to select the "Remember my password" checkbox on my Vista machine, first time I logged on into the Ubuntu server and now I never have to type in the credentials again on that machine.
I want to use a 120GB for backups for my wired computer and 2 wireless computers. How do i do this? And what software should i use to be able to backup and restore?

I ahve created the appropriate shares and have created a "My Network Place" to be able to view the files in that location. Howver, I am also trying to connect my bookkeeping software (QuickBooks) to the data store that resides in that folder. When I connect locally through the network at work, it seems to work fine.

Then NETWORK MAGIC pops-up and says {YOU ARE NOW CONNECTED} then I have to manually turn on IE6 button to go online, almost like the page {the page cannot be displayed} wants to come up first instead of the connection?

Since there's not a second PC to link to, what I did was to created a directory named est on the same PC , share it out, and then, map a network drive, named N, to it. When my PC has an Ethernet cable connected to a switch, Windows XP will see that N drive (existing on the same PC). The moment I disconnect that Ethernet cable from the switch, the N drive is gone. Is there a way to have a mapped network drive on XP (as mentioned above), without the need to have a network cable connecting that PC to a switch?

And then it appears as a "Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC", whereas I actually have a D-Link DFE-538TX 10/100 adapter. Furthermore, I get no icons (at all) in the Network Communications window. So if I want to change any settings of my LAN, for example, I can't, because I can't select the LAN icon or right-click on it. The LAN is working though. The current driver for the Realtek adapter which is listed is a MS driver.

It takes a long while when you click one icon in the “My Network Places” for that to open up and go to the next directory or when just first displaying the computers in “My Network Places”, it goes so slow.
I use Windows Workgroup on the LAN to share out internet. Everything else, other than browsing the network, works great. The internet browses nice and fast.
This morning I opened My Network Places while my pc was still loading all the programs at start-up and "My Network Places" was fast. After a few minutes it was back to normal low pace. Now I guess it is something running on my pc slowing it down. Is it maybe to do with XP Service Pack 2? Before installing SP2 the network browsing on my pc is fast, after installing SP2, it is slow. Other computers on the network without SP2 browse the network quite fast.
All the pc's on the network has XP Pro.
I was wondering if someone knew how I can get my back button back. when I get into a site. it wont let me hit the back button at the top of the screen.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have reviewed the following thread and discovered that the solution does not work on my WinXP Pro SP2 computer.Solved: XP shut down window Jag11 in post#3 of the thread and the original poster applied this fix which worked for the original poster, CactusJack: Control Panel>User Accounts Click Change the way users log on or off, tick the Use the Welcome screen, then click Apply Options.When I click on Start, there are only two buttons at the bottom: Log Off and Turn Off Computer, and no green icon for Restart. The green icon can be found when the Turn Off Computer icon is pressed and appears to the right of Stand by and Turn Off icons in the displayed window (Turn off computer) at the center of the screen.Is there a fix for this problem - i.e. how do I get the Restart icon back at the botton of the Start button display? Or, is this how WinXP Pro SP2 is normally, and not considered a problem?
