Can't Map A Network Drive Even Though Its Accessible

Domain has shared drive P: (Public)User can access drive via //servername/public or servername.domain.org/public and work out of the files there exactly as intended, with full access. She's actually made a shortcut on the desktop for it.Try mapping the drive however, and it say Access is Denied every time. Try to disconnect the drive and it tells you the files are in use (because they are, but not through the map). So to reiterate those two methods of network access I listed above have both been tried.
i have a dvd + - rw and it just stopped working the other day i was like whatever now i need it for a project for school and i cant get it to work can ne one help and i upgraded the ram a few weeks ago
I do not know what the fish happen to my PC.When i clicked on my drive,a message appears which states:"D: is not accessible.Incorrect function."I did not remove anything other than those unwanted applications.I thought I could restore my drive D when I run system restore.To my horror,system restore returns a message stating that "Changes made to drive(s)D: after this point cannot be reversed because the drive was either excluded from system Restore monitoring,or was turned off or removed".I really do not want to lose all my important data in that drive D.Pls can anyone provide your expert advice.
I have a hard disk (non-booting) that was formatted by windows 98. I put a new drive in the system and put xp pro on it. The drives show up in device manager, and on my computer, but when I attempt to access the drive, it says "unformatted drive, do you want to format". I hit no,because I don't want to lose the info on it.
When i plug in my pen drive into my computer, i open My computer where i can see it, but when i try to open it, a message pops up saying "insert a disk in unit H:" or something like this. This message usually appears when there is no disk in that drive and you try to open it. but the pen drive is plugged in! not even mac os read the pen drive.
i just formatted my comp d prblemis that i have a drive which has a few movies and songs in it and in checking memory usage of that driive it shoewed it had arnd 10 gb of things in it ie d songs and the movies.the problem is that when i click n the movie or the song it shows that it is not accesible access is denied
I am running xp pro. I have been having problems installing a scanner but that is for another time. Currnetly I have an error message that reads D:is not accessible. Incorrect funtion. This has rendered that dive useless so I cannot load or play any discs. How do I get this drive working again?
I just downloaded this program a while ago because I keep getting an error, E:drive not accessible; incorrect function. I thought the scan would fix errors. What can I do to fix it. Also same message from drive F. Trying to download pictures to a CD
I receive the following message in Device Manager under the floppy drive: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39). I have attempted to remove the drive and let XP recognize it and I have also tried uninstall and install of the driver both without success. I found similar hits to my problem through a google search and one had a solution for a CD rom drive problem from this forum.
I was hit by the hurricane when it was a category 1 hurricane and lost power for several days. During this time I had my computer off. When power finally came back on I turned on my computer, but even though I didn't lose power again the phase went up and down. When I tried to turn my computer on again I got a blue screen, and then I started getting an error message when it tried to load windows 2000.
i have an external dvd-rw linked to my computer.upon putting in a dvdwith music folders on i cant open or explore the disk to see what is onthere.i get the above error message come up.any ideas on what could becausing the problems -- scott1690
Would someone please help me if possible,to resolve these problems and why these problem occurred.I've got blue page three times before these problems occurred.windows xp home sp3 1-right click on drive c and selecting check disk ,enter: check disk was unable to complete the disk check.2-type chkdsk c: x f in command prompt and restart...this message:the type of file system is raw.check disk is not available for raw drives. 3-disk management shows drive c healthy and with the FAT32 file system structure. 4-type chkdsk c: in command prompt...enter:the type of file system is FAT32....windows find errors in file system.
I have windows XP HOME installed on the C drive of my laptop and Windows XP Pro installed on the E drive. Both E and C drives had password protections. Few weeks ago I removed the password protection for E drive. But now, when I try to access E drive through my C drive (by going to My Computer>E>Documents and Settings>Jake) it is showing a "access is denied" window. Why is this? I have a 250GB Western Digital hard drive with a ~195GB partition formatted as FAT32. The partition is called "Documents" and has the letter C: assigned to it. The rest of the hard drive isn't formatted. The operating system (WinXP) is installed on a different hard drive.Since yesterday in My Computer or Explorer it's called "Local Disk C:" and whenever I click on it I get a box that says "The disk in drive C is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?". For two hours it came back and I backed up all the most important information but then the same problem came back again. I was able to see the contents of the partition through a few applications but not access it. My whole computer is working sluggish since this happened.
My friend's computer seized up in the middle of the boot. Tried recovery, but it isn't able to go forward. The hard drive seemed to be spinning tho, so chances were good we could recover the data. I removed the hard drive and copied everything to a back-up external drive using my own computer. Replaced the hard drive in the disabled computer. Question is how do I install Windows XP? The recovery files on the hard drive are not accessible, I assume, so we can't use those - right? We misplaced the disks that came with the computer, so I'm buying a new copy of Windows XP.
I have two laptops, a ThinkPad T30 and a Latitude C840 (they are both working with XP SP2, except the T30 doesn't have a screen). I'd like to move the T30's drive into the C840, but when I do this, the C840 will hang right after the BIOS screen (incl. the XP CD's Press a key to boot off the CD if I tell it to boot from the disc drive first). My first thought was to try Recovery Console from the XP CD. I can log into the install, and I've already tried fixmbring and fixbooting it. This doesn't help.
This leaves the option of the drivers not being right. I installed the C840 chipset drivers, nothing. I'd really rather not go on a wild goose chase trying to figure out what'll get things up and running
I use Cobian Backup to produce a zip-file containing all files and folders, except for temporary-folders (I added an exclude-filter), of my system.Before I can rely on this method, I need to find a way of restoring the 27 gb zip-file, which I store on a networked drive, easily. how booting up a laptop with a formatted harddrive, be able to access a network-drive and extract all the contents of the networked zip-file to the hard drive?
My office has a number of mapped network drives for each user which, unfortunately, start at drive letter F.Each time a USB device is used on the computer it is also automatically assigned the drive letter F (presuming that C is hard disk and D and E are CD/DVD drives). This has to be manually changed from within Disk Management.Apparently this is as a result of physical drives taking precedent over the mapped network drives.Is there any workaround for this other than moving the mapped drive letters further along in the alphabet? - this is not really a feasible solution at this time.
I've connected an external USB drive, but when I go to My Computer it shows it as a network drive. In addition, it gives it the same name as the mapped network drive that already exists there. When I change the name of the external drive there, it then changes the name of the mapped network drive, so again they both have the same name, although the drive letters are different. Any ideas how to make the external drive appear where it belongs in My Computer, under Hard Disk drives?
Any idea what causes mapped network drives to appear as 'Disconnected.Network Drive' in 'my computer?' This happens even when a system is powered up with the networked system already online (supposed to reconnect on startup).Double-clicking the drive letter in 'my computer' accesses the drive and changes status to 'Network Drive.' Unfortunately, accessing by another app gets the 'disconnected' status.There must be a registry patch or option for this
I have 3 drives mapped on a WinXP Media Center Edition machine, which always show up as Disconnected Network Drive with every boot. I can access them if i double click them, and then they are marked as connected.This is a problem, however, because when i load up Media Center, I have these 3 drives mapped under My Video, and they won't display. What I am doing now, is remoting into the system every time I boot it, opening each mapped drive, and then launching Media Center. But, this is a pain in the ***, because I jsut want to boot up and go with the remote control.
Show the Map Nework Drive button. Navigate in the registry to HKEY_CURRENT_USER SoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced subkey and set the value for MapNetDrvBtn to 1. The Map Network Drive button will appear in Windows Explorer and My Computer toolbars.
I am still working on this one. Okay, a Dell Desktop running XP Home. An IBM laptop running the same. DSL and a Lynksys Wireless B router connecting all. AGV anti virus on Dell. All adapters attached. Norton on laptop. File and printer sharing enabled on both. Of course, there's the Windows Firewall on both. I can ping the laptop from the dell but can't ping the dell from the laptop. I get the message no network drive/resource. Can someone please tell me what I am missing?

In my Network Connections it shows nothing. It is just white space. In my system tray, at the bottom right-hand corner of my screen, it shows no flashing computers. This has been so for around five months, I'm guessing. It never really bothered me until lately, and here is what I have done in order to fix it (to no avail, obviously):- Installed all critical Windows updates - Ran Ad-Aware entire system scan (it's my only anti-virus program)- Tried to make a new network connection, but according to Windows, I have no network hardware, either- Put my Windows installation CD into my CD drive, went to "Install Optional Windows Components," and installed everything network related, then restarted.

Am now able to access the Samba shares from my Windows Vista machine WITHOUT entering username/password for my Samba user because I made a Samba user equal to my Vista windows user "masterdam79".
I WAS able to select the "Remember my password" checkbox on my Vista machine, first time I logged on into the Ubuntu server and now I never have to type in the credentials again on that machine.
I want to use a 120GB for backups for my wired computer and 2 wireless computers. How do i do this? And what software should i use to be able to backup and restore?
I had to install a new hard drive on my laptop. It has windows xp. That installed ok and now I can't get my wireless to work. It says "No active network adapters". It is not plugged into the ethernet, my home computer is. I usually just get on my laptop in another room with the wireless that is built into the computer.
When i made the map network drive , and i got a drive called it N as a network drive if i tried to access it , this mes. appear but if i right clicked this drive and choosed open or explore , it work without appearing this mes.
I am trying to set up remote access to files located on a webserver in my office. The server is Windows 2000 Small Business Server. I ahve created the appropriate shares and have created a "My Network Place" to be able to view the files in that location. Howver, I am also trying to connect my bookkeeping software (QuickBooks) to the data store that resides in that folder. When I connect locally through the network at work, it seems to work fine.
