Hosts File Not Blocking Sites Properly / Sites Blocked In Options?

Sep 9, 2005

Is there any reason the hosts file should not block sites properly?Certain sites I have put in there aren't being blocked, and this is a problem. Also, does it only block the major site (just the www.badsite.com) and not all subdomains of that? (for example "signup.badsite.com")

Internet Explorer 6 Won't Allow ActiveX Content To Run Fro

Sep 15, 2005

I am running Trillian pro 3.1 and I am having a problem when the program goes to open my Hotmail account. Since I installed SP2 IE pops up a message that says "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer. Click here for options..." The solution to this problem is supposed to be to mark the check box in Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab > Security " Allow active content to run in files on My Computer" The problem I have is that this for some reason doesn't fix my problem. I still get the message poping up saying "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer.

Security Settings Do Not Allow Web Sites To Use ActiveX

Oct 31, 2007

When I clik on the MMA Presentation I receive the following error: "Your security settings do not allow Web sites to use ActiveX controls installed on your computer. This page may not display correctly. Click here for options" The only thing that appears is the Information Bar. It won't allow me to clik on any options. I tried opening the webinar presentation on my laptop and it worked fine. They are both using Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2. I went into Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Options, Security settings and changed the Active X prompts to mirror those in the laptop. But it still won't allow viewing of the presentation. In doing a Google search, one person said to look at a Microsoft support doc, and try Method# 4, Reregister DLL files that are associated with Cryptographic Services. I tried that but it still did not correct the problem.

AntiVirus Sites Blocked Even After Clean Install.

Jul 9, 2009

For some unknown reason my anti virus will not update as it says there is no connection that it could find to update with, which I find rather suspicious. I could neither access ANY antivirus websites either. ex www.grisoft.com, www.mcafee.com, www.symantec.com.

So I done a clean install formatting my hard drive fully and starting from scratch. And to my fear I still could not access ANY antivirus sites still.

I had only installed AVG Free and Firefox. Even before I connected the net to the computer I put AVG on just to be safe and it still would not update.

SP2 And IE7 - Unable To View Sites In Internet Explorer

Jan 28, 2008

i'm runnin XP SP2 and IE7. the problem i'm having is that ever since i moved i have been unable to view sites in Internet Explorer because I keep getting Apache Server at go.microsoft.com Port 8100. I have tried to reset the settings in Internet Options to manufacturers spec but that yielded no results. I can use internet explorer fine on the guest account, however it is indeed..a guest account. The issue isn't such a big deal since i use Firefox anyway, but it is annoying when i rip a CD to my computer and am forbidden to access CDDA for covers, song titles and such.

Activex Settings Prohibit Running ActiveX Controls

Jul 21, 2005

Completely patched WinXP with all updates and service
packs.
Symantec Internet Security gives the following error:
Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls
on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly.

I checked the Symantec site for info. This led me to run services.msc,
and I received the same message. I have set everything to default
without result. I cannot find any useful information in the MS
knowledge base or through Google.

Any ideas before I wipe out this install and start over with Fedora Core?

ActiveX Error Messages When NOT Using Internet

Feb 26, 2005

My Dad recently reformatted our computer, wish he hadn't! Now I keep getting Internet Explorer error messages that say something like "Your security settings prohibit ActiveX controls. This page may not display properly as a result". But I get this message when I am not even using the internet! I can't explore files or even access the control panel properly because this message will pop up and then somehow disable access. For example, I can open the control panel but then the error message comes up and when I click on "add/remove hardware" (or anything else), nothing happens! This is quite debilitating. Also, my current security setting DO NOT prohibit ActiveX controls, I have it set to "prompt". So the message doesn't make any sense at all.

Norton Blocked Invasion To PC: Unable To Connect To Internet?

Mar 26, 2009

I have windows xp home edition with Norton antivirus protection. I got a message recently that Norton blocked an attempt to invade my pc. It was a fake site that looked like Internet Explore virus protection, and it said to start scan now. I didn't and just closed it and thought everything was fine. The next day I tried to log on and it just went back to the log on screen. It said logging off. I kept on trying and it did the same thing over and over. It was like something was blocking me logging on.

Pc Won't Let Me Go To Certain Sites Like Paypal Or Anti-virus Sites, Malware?

Aug 2, 2009

when out of no where, I received those weird progams on my PC which are those fake Virus scanners and such. i then deleted it from the source, and ran my Nortan scan and my spysweeper, and they found nothing wrong with my pc. Now, the PC will NOT let me go to "important" sites. For example, Bank of America, Paypal, anti-virus sites, Ebay, etc. But will let me go to sites like Myspace or forums. I had my favs on my toolbar as tiles so its easier to access them, i had about 10 of them, and now only 5 remain after the whole thing happened, and the 5 that were removed were "important" sites. Almost every thing on my tool bar was removed, including File, Edit, View, Tools, and such. My search engine is still displayed though.

Attempts to get to symantec, mcaffee, avg, etc give site not available results in IE 7 - includes techguy.org!!!!, but non-"fixit" sites like google and everything else in the world I can get to. Every few clicks, the url is redirected to an ad site. I've run adaware and trendmicro which found Troj_vg_fcx and removed it, but the problem persists.
