Update Site - Install The ActiveX Control Required To View The Website?
Dec 20, 2005
I am using Windows XP and IE 6 SP2. I used to be able to connect to the Windows Update site and download relevant critical updates etc. Something has gone wrong. When I connect to the update site now, I receive the following message:
Install the ActiveX control required to view the website
"Install the ActiveX control required to view the website," but I don't get the bar saying to install it. None of the troubleshooting tips were relevant.
have a laptop running windows xp sp1 and i recently for the first time tried to run windows update. The page it loads says "Checking if your computer has the latest version of Windows updating software for use with the website
The website uses ActiveX controls to determine which version of the software your computer is running. If you see an ActiveX warning, make sure the control is digitally signed by Microsoft before installing it or allowing it to run."
everytime i try to see a movie in a website (like a movie trailer) or a website that has music (a friend's network for example). it asks me "click to run an activex control on this website" and i have to accept each time. it gets a bit annoying. i dont think i had this before so maybe something changed in my settings that makes me accept this each time. in addition, i tried to go to internet option>security>custom and enable all the activex plugin options... but i still get the same window asking me ro run activex. i have also realized that in some websites like mojoflix.com (similar to Internet) i cannot even see any videos anymore. there is a small red x (inside a white square) on the top left corner. any idea of what we might have changed that does not allow me to see this videos and asks me for activex verification in other sites?
I can't install windows installer from the Win update site. I get the Error Code: 0x80070005. I am trying to install 893803 (v2) as selected by win update. It will start installing then quit about 3/4s way through. I also get these messages...KB893 803 v2 Setup Access is denied. And KB893803 v2 setup installation did not complete.I have win xp home sp2. I recently reinstalled the OS and am trying to update it.
1) i bought it with service pack 1, when i downloaded and installed service pack 2 from the good old windowsupdate site, things started getting funkky.
2) i can no longer install any new updates from the update site. i can download them but when the install part starts, i get errors and asks me to debug them.makes no sense to me.
3) more problems. randomly, my computer screen will sometime go comepletely blue, white white typewriter font, (a windows message) and it will say...blah blah error restart if its ur first time seeing this message.check recently added programs/hardware and contact their manufacturers if uve already seen this message.then it lists some numbers and it poops on me.
4)random popups saying i have memory loss / missing files - they will ask me to debug them or end them.then i have to send ANOTHER stupid error report to windows, yes those are a pain in.
5) my aol instant messenger has problems as well whenever i log off and close aim, i get errors about it saying i need to close it or debug it but i already closed it. sometimes it says im missing files from aim. but how? even when i just installed it
6) sometimes it says my files in win32are pooped.and i get weird errors like warning messages and all this weird crap.
My work computer has all of a sudden stopped allowing active x to run on our system that prints our reciepts.. we get this message when it should be printing the reciept"INTERNET EXPLORER HAS BLOCKED THIS SITE FROM USING AN ACTIVEX CONTROL IN AN UNSAFE MANOR, AS A RESULT THIS PAGE MIGHT NOT DISPLAY CORRECTLY." how can i get this to go away and allow us to print our customers reciepts.. we are using XP with IE8.
Can not view pictures on this website http://www.joellusion.com/ I am running IE 6.0, on Windows XP have run spyware doctor, registry mechanic, microsoft antispyware. I have turned off firewall and pop-up blocker. I still cannot view his pictures. This is a website my nephew built. Everyone else he has checked with can view them with no problem.
Using XP home edition. I recently joined a Christmas card site to send E-cards and everything went okay. Today I wanted to send a New Years E-card but upon revisiting the site, I found I couldn't view any of the cards and got a blank screen with a small red 'x' in the top left-hand corner. I refreshed the screen but no joy. Then I altered security levels to minimum to see if that'd fix things - it didn't so I altered them back to default.
When I open my internet explorer 8, I go to my home page (www.Windstream.net), I am only able to see the top part of the web-page, above the green line. All the news clips and data on the rest of the page do not appear. When I go to www.MSN.com or www.YAHOO.com, both pages appear as they normally show. When I go to my bank's web-site, and try to login to do my online banking, the pop-up login fails to appear.
Another example is when I go to www.ADOBE.com, and select the "downloads" tab, then Adobe Reader, the page goes to the right place, but the yellow bar asking for permission to install Active-X never appears, and the pop-up that tells me to click here to begin download never appears.I am running AVG9.0 (free version) and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware I tried removing IE8, which put me back at IE6, but I had the same problem. SO I downloaded and installed a fresh copy of IE8, but I have the same loss of data on my screens. This happens in IE6 and IE8, so I suspect that I am over-looking something obvious.
I have a hp laptop with winxp pro media center Edition service pack 2. Windows update keeps redirecting me to mac update site any ideals why it would be doing this?
Completely patched WinXP with all updates and service packs. Symantec Internet Security gives the following error: Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly.
I checked the Symantec site for info. This led me to run services.msc, and I received the same message. I have set everything to default without result. I cannot find any useful information in the MS knowledge base or through Google.
Any ideas before I wipe out this install and start over with Fedora Core?
Am running XP with sp2 . Never come across this problem till now. When I get onto the Microsoft website and try to add updates manualy, the site checks out my PC system to see what os system im running (i presume), then I get 2 options, 1 to install custom updates and 1 for download priority. If I click on either I get a bar with moving green dots in telling me itschecking for latest updates on my computer. It does not stop! And when I press the Back link or close it just about freezes my whole pc, even Ctrl, Alt & delete does not work
MS windows update site will not allow manual download that I can see. It wants to download and install. Am I reading this correctly, or will it download and LET me install at my convenience? MS Instructions says to turn OFF AV before installing and I am not about to turn off AV while internet is turned on.
I am trying to download win XP, sp3, (for single computer, NOT for "IT" version) and it seems that MS does not want that to happen. I have spent the last hour searching for a MANUAL download of SP3, and not having any luck. Found several ways to get the "IT" version but there is a warning on the site, " NOT for single computers". I want to have a copy of SP3 for future needs and do not want to DISABLE AV while downloading. MS site advises to disable AV before installing SP3. Can anyone give me a link that will let me download SP3 and save to file, for individual computer?
I simply can't connect to this site. I try from the start menu, IE loads, and just goes blank. The blank page source advises me to add the website to trusted zones, which i did to no avail. WinXP pro - SP2 - updateded
When go to Microsoft.com and try to update my computer, it says that the update was failed. I have tried everything I can think of to fix this problem, but am out of ideas.
I have a problem that I can't figure out. When I go to windows update on the start menu I get sent to www.msn.com.Also when I click on Microsoft update it just grinds and grinds. Also when I go to the windows updates web page and try to download something manually it validates my machine and presents a clickable download button. When I click on it I get a very small windows pop up that says page not found.I can not download anything off of Microsoft's site. When I go to update superantivirus I get an error that says "There is an error trying to retrieve definitions" "Make sure your firewall is not blocking superantispyware.exe from accessing Internet"When I go to update adaware I get can' find Internet connection.
I was have a choice to switch in my control panel fron classic view to category view. When i update my pc i lost that choice and showing folders in "my computer" had been changed too.I try to restore the system but i faild. Is there a way to get it back?
When I open to read my e-mails I get a message saying Failed to install Adobe Flash player Activex Setup. What can I do to remove this message when I openmy e-mails?
I seem to be having trouble with both of my PC's (dell dim 2400's with XP home) accessing the Windows Update site. I can never get on and get the usual page suggesting to try later or try downloading manually, which I can't do either. None of my System Restore points work (on either one)! Also, our DSL connection is working fine, as for as IE6 goes. (I can get Google, Yahoo, Bestbuy.com, ect.) I can't access the msn web-site either and Outlook Express 2003 hangs during the receiving part. I've tried Trend-Micro's Housecall and it cleaned several trojans, but I still have the same problems. I've never experienced this "Denial of Service" attacks.
All of the SP2 install guides at windowsreinstall.com link provided in the sticky state that XP Home CD is required, what if I don't have one, I have a Dell-provided "reinstall" CD for XP. Can I still use the same procedures to upgrade to SP2
I just did a clean re-install of windows xp home edition and I cannot go to any microsoft site. I tried going to start menu then clicking windows update but it comes up page not found. I have tried both IE and Firefox to go directly to microsoft's website to get service pack 3 and all the updates but it won't go to any microsoft website. It just comes up page not found. What could be causing this?
I am getting ready to install this to test some software and I wonder about the uninstall process. I did not find it addressed on Microsoft's website. If it works, I will be getting some new hardware and I will not need it on the original PC any more.
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005' [dbmssocn]General network error. I have run live update and installed all updates OK except .NET Framework SP1.1 update. This will not install and there is no reason given why - it just says installation failed
Suddenly, I noticed that Windows update no longer works. I still get automatic updates, but for some reason I can't manually update things. Anyone else seen this? If you note, they're asking to install an Active-X control, but the information bar doesn't popup to allow me to continue.
I inadvertently blocked a Web site on my home computer. All mail from this site has images blocked and most links not working, and I can't access the Web site in Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Netscape browsers suddenly. However, if I read my email or try to access the site on another computer, everything is fine. I remember clicking something having to do with the content on this page being "unsigned," but I haven't been able to find a way to fix the problem. When I've cleared cookies, history, cache, files, and unchecked all security everywhere, I sometimes can access the Web site until I close the browser and re-open it (even with no changes made), but the images and links are still blocked in my hotmail.
I just switch hosts for one of my web sites. I change the name servers and they have propgated because I checked the DNS on a DNS report website and the domain name points to the new host. Everyone can connect to the new host and view my web site except for me. The only way I can connect and view my web site is if I go to it through a proxy. I tried flushing the cache. I tried clearing the temporary internet files and history. I tried disabling the negative caching through the registry. I tried restarting the dns client service.
I use Serif Page Plus 9 to create my web site and added sound files which used to work perfectly when published but now when previewing my site in webbrowser and publishing my site to the web there is no sound.
