Am I reading this correctly, or will it download and LET me install at my convenience? MS Instructions says to turn OFF AV before installing and I am not about to turn off AV while internet is turned on.
I am trying to download win XP, sp3, (for single computer, NOT for "IT" version) and it seems that MS does not want that to happen. I have spent the last hour searching for a MANUAL download of SP3, and not having any luck. Found several ways to get the "IT" version but there is a warning on the site, " NOT for single computers". I want to have a copy of SP3 for future needs and do not want to DISABLE AV while downloading. MS site advises to disable AV before installing SP3. Can anyone give me a link that will let me download SP3 and save to file, for individual computer?
When go to Microsoft.com and try to update my computer, it says that the update was failed. I have tried everything I can think of to fix this problem, but am out of ideas.

It will start installing then quit about 3/4s way through. I also get these messages...KB893 803 v2 Setup Access is denied. And KB893803 v2 setup installation did not complete.I have win xp home sp2. When I go to windows update on the start menu I get sent to www.msn.com.Also when I click on Microsoft update it just grinds and grinds.Also when I go to the windows updates web page and try to download something manually it validates my machine and presents a clickable download button. 2) i can no longer install any new updates from the update site. i can download them but when the install part starts, i get errors and asks me to debug them.makes no sense to me.
3) more problems. randomly, my computer screen will sometime go comepletely blue, white white typewriter font, (a windows message) and it will say...blah blah error restart if its ur first time seeing this message.check recently added programs/hardware and contact their manufacturers if uve already seen this message.then it lists some numbers and it poops on me.
4)random popups saying i have memory loss / missing files - they will ask me to debug them or end them.then i have to send ANOTHER stupid error report to windows, yes those are a pain in.
5) my aol instant messenger has problems as well whenever i log off and close aim, i get errors about it saying i need to close it or debug it but i already closed it. sometimes it says im missing files from aim. but how? even when i just installed it
6) sometimes it says my files in win32are pooped.and i get weird errors like warning messages and all this weird crap.
I have Windows XP and when I loaded my picture program for my digital camera it loaded quicktime onto our computer. Which disabled the cookie for one website that my father uses. I've tried everything in internet options to enable the cookies, I've lowered the privacy settings to allow all cookies, I've set everything to allow cookies, yet this site won't work. but there are other cookies on our computer, it's just this one website that will not let him log on. When the message pops up it says that either javascript and/or the cookies have been disabled... I know it is not the java because I reinstalled it and that's working just fine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI seem to be having trouble with both of my PC's (dell dim 2400's with XP home) accessing the Windows Update site. I can never get on and get the usual page suggesting to try later or try downloading manually, which I can't do either. None of my System Restore points work (on either one)! Also, our DSL connection is working fine, as for as IE6 goes. (I can get Google, Yahoo, Bestbuy.com, ect.) I can't access the msn web-site either and Outlook Express 2003 hangs during the receiving part. I've tried Trend-Micro's Housecall and it cleaned several trojans, but I still have the same problems. I've never experienced this "Denial of Service" attacks.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI now think a problem, that may have been a bug, could now be a winsock problem. What is happening, is I cannot connect to windows update. It is only anything having to do with and url dealing with windows update. When I get the screen, "unable to connect" and select to have I.E. run diagnostics, it doesn't come up with anything. I've run serveral virus/malware scans and nothing comes up. I have XP, a legal copy, but it does not have the diagnostics software. I have downloaded some sort of winsock "fix" software, but do not want to run this, in fear of totally messing something up.

All mail from this site has images blocked and most links not working, and I can't access the Web site in Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Netscape browsers suddenly. However, if I read my email or try to access the site on another computer, everything is fine. I remember clicking something having to do with the content on this page being "unsigned," but I haven't been able to find a way to fix the problem. When I've cleared cookies, history, cache, files, and unchecked all security everywhere, I sometimes can access the Web site until I close the browser and re-open it (even with no changes made), but the images and links are still blocked in my hotmail.

View 10 Replies View RelatedWhen i connect to the internet, The Icon of the two small computers does not go to my Task bar ( near the tasks eg: msn messenger ), until i go to My Network Connections, Right click and press Refresh... i mean it does'nt go automaticaly, same as my network connection when its aquiring the ip, it stays there in my tray until i refresh my Network connections, Anybody knows a workaround ? I change the name servers and they have propgated because I checked the DNS on a DNS report website and the domain name points to the new host. Everyone can connect to the new host and view my web site except for me. The only way I can connect and view my web site is if I go to it through a proxy. I tried flushing the cache. I tried clearing the temporary internet files and history. I tried disabling the negative caching through the registry. I tried restarting the dns client service.

I finally found a driver from Germany. When installed with right mouse clicks, it installed in English, and worked perfectly. Since the MS automatic update to SP2, it no longer works, and the driver from Germany won't install.Does anyone know of a driver that will work?

All of the sudden when I go there to get updates, all I get is the option to click on Express or Custom. Then when it gets to the page where ya see the green balls moving across the page while its scanning my system to see if I need any updates, it just stays there and if I stay at that page too long, my PC locks up.
I'm running XP Pro with 500MHz and 256 in ram. I've tried to contact Microsoft tech guys that I can barley understand and they have no idea what's going on. It doesn't make any difference if its a fresh install of XP Pro with nothing else installed except for my wireless card so I can connect to the net, or the current system I'm running now.
my Help and Support doesn't work at all, but that's not important. Secondly, whenever I open Microsoft/Windows Update, it opens in Firefox, and shows everything (cause of IE Tab add-on), but it opens a blank IE windows as well... The URL works fine in both browsers. Also an error pops up whenever I open Gigaget (probably cause of Ad banner, but I've never seen it). Screenshot of error:
Lastly, and most importantly, it seems that the Explorer file manager on my Guest account is messed up. Whenever I open a folder, or any shortcuts that open by Explorer (ex. my Computer) Search pops up. Then if I search something, and it shows a folder (and probably anything else opened by Explorer), when I try to open it, this kind of thing happens: There might be other things that I may not have noticed, but I'm sure about these ones.

View 4 Replies View Relateddaughter has an "emachine" (I know, but it's too late) with XP. Son opened a "cheats" from Google and now they can't open internet explorer at all. Just gives us the "sorry, we'll send error report." They can right click on the "explorer" icon and open by "run as" but they can't download anything, or open new pages (assuming the other pages are stored). They play a game called Ragnarok(sp??) and that may have something to do with it, not sure. Anyway, I've checked internet connections and she is enabled, I've run Winsock and that doesn't help, even loaded Foxfire browser to bypass, but it won't open either, just gives me the same message. We even updated with the XP2, still nothing

i'm using windows xp service pack 2. i try to go to the windows update page and all i get is a blank white screen and on the bottom left hand corner of the screen, it says done. but nothing is there. if i edit the top url, i can go anywhere i want but just not windows update. i have no viruses, spyware, adaware as i have a thorough check of all and came up empty.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI shut down system restore and went into safe mode to clean out spyware,ect. In safe mode, spybot,i used ewiedo,smit,adware. i dont recall but i think spybot was the only program to find an item. When i rebooted in normal XP, i have been unable to connect IE6,Weatherbug,Widgets to my wireless connection. However Firefox is connecting pretty good,atlhough my wireless program is funny, its telling me there is no internet connection as i surf I tried 'internet options' such as resetting IE, i tried that scannow command. again, i dont have the system restore option to use. but also yahoo widgets are not connectiong nor weathebug.
