View 1 Repliesi'm runnin XP SP2 and IE7. the problem i'm having is that ever since i moved i have been unable to view sites in Internet Explorer because I keep getting Apache Server at go.microsoft.com Port 8100. I have tried to reset the settings in Internet Options to manufacturers spec but that yielded no results. I can use internet explorer fine on the guest account, however it is indeed..a guest account. The issue isn't such a big deal since i use Firefox anyway, but it is annoying when i rip a CD to my computer and am forbidden to access CDDA for covers, song titles and such.

View 14 Replies View Relatedi recieve this error message everytime i try to do a search from my address bar in internet explorer. i can type the direct address and i can go directly to a site, but searching is dead. i have enclosed the message below. might you be able to guide me? The page cannot be displayed The page you are looking for might have been removed or had its name changed.
Open the home page, and then look for links to the information you want.
If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.
If you still cannot open the page, click the Internet Explorer Search button to look for similar sites.
Hello. I have recently been unable to search via my Internet Explorer address bar. I've went into the "autosearch settings" of IE, and tried three different serach sites and I still get the "page not found' error.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI keep all of my digital photos in one folder. I have a few AVI files taken with the camera. If I navigate to a sub folder that contains one of these AVI files Explorer shuts down with a "Data Execution Prevention Error"
It does not happen if I run in safe mode.
PC shuts down using the internet and immediately get PXE E53 - no boot filename received and PXE MOF - Exiting Intel boot agent. This happened a few times and a simple turn off/on solved the problem. Now I cannot get it to reboot at all. I am running a IBM NetVista with XP and Norton. Both XP and Norton have auto update so they should be have all current updates.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI just looked at internet options - security - restricted sites and found a bunch in there. I had none about a month ago and never had any before. Some sound bad but that's irrelevant, my question is how did they get there? Is this some connection to MS's new security downloads?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently had a bout with spyware. I ran a full Malwarebytes scan and removed all the items it found. I restarted the computer like I was instructed to do and it booted up fine. explorer.exe shuts down about every minute or so and restarts. There's no error message or anything, just everything on my desktop disappears then re-appears. This only started happening today. It was working fine last night before I got hit with the spyware this morning. What could possibly be causing this and how do I fix it. My computer is basically useless in this condition
View 2 Replies View RelatedSince recently, whenever I insert a DVD/CD intomy DVD drive & try to browse it (via OPEN or EXPLORE) the DVD does open & I can see the icons/folders + other details, but within seconds, I get a box saying "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem...etc" & explorer shuts down & restarts. This happens only when I access my DVD drive. I'll be grateful for a solution., Here's the details from the Event Viewer , the last time it occurred (an hour ago).

View 2 Replies View RelatedGot a machine on the bench right now (Dell Dimension 3100, XPHE SP2) which shuts down Windows Explorer whenever I try and do a search. I just updated this machine to SP2 and have run SuperAntiSpyware (SAS) and CCleaner on it. There must be a conflict somewhere and I have no idea what files may be conflicting.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a windows XP.could not be saved, because the source file could not be read. Many times, and very quickly, my internet browser will shut down with almost the exact same error message. The "bbzvcelz" part always changes even if it is the same file. This problem has not lasted very long, my computer is 4-5 years old, and I have run Norton antivirus many times to eradicate the problem.
View 5 Replies View RelatedInternet access through my browsers and online games seems to shut off for no apparent reason. It just started doing this a couple days ago.If I wait long enough, it'll sometimes come back again. If I reboot, it's back online again.Strangely, bittorrent seems to keep working without any problems.I can also ping websites by name.I'm having a really hard time troubleshooting my problem.I'm really not sure where to start looking.I've tried turning on and off the antivirus and firewalls. I've run virus and spyware scans. I tried using a different network card. It doesn't seem to be the router since the other computers in my house work fine.My computer dual boots with Vista and I don't seem to have a problem in Vista. It just happened again immediately after I posted this message in IE7.I could no longer connect to any websites.I closed the IE7 window and booted up Firefox, which worked fine. When I opened IE7 again, it was working again as well. All of this happened within 1 minute.Another example of strange behavior. Right now, Firefox is giving me 'Unable to connect' when I try to browse. But it's also in the middle of downloading a huge file without any problems.Bittorrent is working fine.
View 17 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Dimension 2350. It will decide to shut down on it's own. I can tell it actually shuts down because windows doesn't try and run a chkdsk when I start it back up. Anyway I made sure to check my power settings and everything is set to Never shutdown or hibernate. It is also not hooked to the internet or a network. Just left it on doing nothing for about an hour and a half, came back and it was off. It actually only accesses the internet when I run Windows Updates.
View 12 Replies View RelatedIs there any reason the hosts file should not block sites properly?Certain sites I have put in there aren't being blocked, and this is a problem. Also, does it only block the major site (just the www.badsite.com) and not all subdomains of that? (for example "signup.badsite.com")
View 10 Replies View Relatedwhen out of no where, I received those weird progams on my PC which are those fake Virus scanners and such. i then deleted it from the source, and ran my Nortan scan and my spysweeper, and they found nothing wrong with my pc. Now, the PC will NOT let me go to "important" sites. For example, Bank of America, Paypal, anti-virus sites, Ebay, etc. But will let me go to sites like Myspace or forums. I had my favs on my toolbar as tiles so its easier to access them, i had about 10 of them, and now only 5 remain after the whole thing happened, and the 5 that were removed were "important" sites. Almost every thing on my tool bar was removed, including File, Edit, View, Tools, and such. My search engine is still displayed though.

View 5 Replies View RelatedOne of the kids downloaded rapid antivirus and it's screwed everything up. I've managed to get rid of therapid AV, but it looks like I've got some malware/adware of some sort running. Attempts to get to symantec, mcaffee, avg, etc give site not available results in IE 7 - includes techguy.org!!!!, but non-"fixit" sites like google and everything else in the world I can get to. Every few clicks, the url is redirected to an ad site. I've run adaware and trendmicro which found Troj_vg_fcx and removed it, but the problem persists.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSince moving to Win XP I have found that Win Explorer Search Files & Folders function does not work properly (as Win 98 did).I need to search a subset of the files (for example *.pas) to find a file containing a string (for example TLargeInteger). Win 98 would have found this but Win XP returns with no item found when there is definitely a file(s) with that string in it in plain text (ie not unicode). Is there some subtle selection I am not making or is the Win XP Search function broken.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI tried to change the start button text just now (following the instructions here: http://www.theeldergeek.com/change_s...utton_text.htm) but I ended up not liking it because the search function was rendered unusable. Anyway, I read that there was another way to do it by just renaming the original explorer.exe (to something like ORIGINALexplorer.exe) and replacing it with the modified version (now named, explorer.exe) and putting that in C:/Windows. This way, there's no need to go into the registry and the search function is still usable.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI've been getting a message from 'startup mechanic' to advise me that program 'uuespo' c:windows/system32/uuespo.exe is attempting to run at system startup. I checked the description and it's meant to be a nuisance program that changes your IE homepage so I disabled it and deleted the file from the above path. when I right click 'start' and 'search' nothing happens, the same with left click 'start' 'search'. If I right click a folder in windows explorer and select 'search' nothing happens, but I can open windows explorer, then select search, but this only allows me to search the whole drive. So in my haste I deleted 'uuespo.exe' from the recycle bin. The program still seems to be install somewhere tho and startup mechanic is still flashing up messages telling me it's trying to register at startup. I'm also having problems within Internet explorer since this all started, in that it won't open pop-up screens from trusted sites.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I right click the "Windows" directory in Windows Explorer and select "search" and do a search for "Hosts", the search finds the "Hosts" file in the "C:WINDOWSsystem32driversetc" directory. All well and good because that's what I want and expect.
However, when I right click on the C: drive itself in Windows Explorer and select "search" and do a search for "Hosts", the search fails to find the Hosts file in the "...driversetc." directory. It does find
hosts files elsewhere. For example it finds "Hosts.txt" and "Hosts" files that I placed on my desktop.
When I right click a drive in Windows Explorer and select "search", I damn well want to search the entire drive. Unfortunately, Windows has apparently defaulted to some kind of limited search. How do I force
Windows search the entire drive?
I attempt to start search from the start button explorer hangs. when i open task manager it shows explorer is using up all of the cup time and the only thing i can do is end the task and restart. Whenever i start a search from within a window it works perfectly.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having some trouble opening my Local Disc (C:). When I go to My Computer and then double click the drive icon, it brings up another window that's just a search window allowing me to search the C drive. Usually when you double click it just browses to whats in the drive, but I don't know what happened. I can right click the icon and select "Explore" and it will work fine, but I do not want to have to do that every time. Is there some option I must have turned off maybe?
