With certain pop-up stoppers, my pop-ups stop, but are replaced with script errors. This is almost just as annoying. Here is how you can get rid of most of those script errors:Open up Internet Explorer, click on Tools, select Internet options, click the advanced tab, and under the Browsing section, be sure that the Display a notification about every script error is unchecked
View 9 RepliesThat turn up errors of 'wrong path' or 'incorrect syntax'. In the 'real' MSDOS world, there are NO spaces in file/folder names. XP tosses grand folders with spaces such as Documents and Settings....but the typing of such a folder name in the MSDOS window (cmd) gives you those errors I mentioned and most people give up out of frustration trying to figure it out and typing the name without the spaces or using the 8.3 old MSDOS method with the ~ doesn't work either, such as documents What you have to do is literally fill in the spaces by using a question mark where the space would be and type the whole folder/file name...such as Document and Settings. Do this for each subpath folder/file as well and you will get where you need to be. Totally a PITA, but it works.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI downloaded some windows updates but not all of them installed. When I go to Turn Off Computer, the "Turn Off" button has changed, indicating that when I hit it, it will install the updates. There's also a field I can click which will Turn Off without installing the updates. When I click the Turn Off buttion, it attempts to install two updates. It doesn't appear to be successful. Every time I Turn Off Computer it apparently tries to install the same two updates. I can reboot and do this over and over and they don't "take".There's nothing in Event Viewer to indicate what's going on. I couldn't find any installation logs though I'm not sure where to look.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I start the computer, I get a screen freeze and have to press Ctrl,Alt,Del once before any programs will startup. A lot of probs with internet connection and slowness while surfing as well as a lot of pop up ads in my face.
There are system boxes coming up with registry and dll errors and the whole system seems SLOW.
The family computer is playing up and to the best of my knowledge the computer in question just simply suddenly stopped working as it should. I am unable to get the 'default' welcome screen upon start up and am getting the logon box where you type in a username and passworld. I know how to get rid of this, user accounts>enable welcome screen - but it will not solve the problem.This is just the start of the problems. I get a whole host of errors which popup one after another.

Okay so I usually leave my computer on all the time. I went to bed and when I got up it was off and couldn't get it to turn on. So I assumed it might be the power supply so I went and bought a new one from stamples. He turned on for maybe 5 seconds then turned off. so I took it back thinking maybe I didn't have enough watts. The higher watts didn't doanything. I am lost without my computer can anyone help? I have Win XP..Could it be the fan? Even though the fan worked when i plugged in first PS...Second didnt do anything. Could it be something to do with motherboard?

View 6 Replies View RelatedHad to reinstall Windows XP. It appears there are issues with SP2 involving the video graphics card and the sound. Now I'm stuck. I thought that if I chose "do not use this device" under "Device usage" on the display adaptor tab, that it would pick the right adaptor.
Anyway, my screen went blank and I tried to reboot in safe mode and it sticks at mup.sys. I disabled mup and it now sticks at "nid" something or other.
I use "Windows Narrator" to try and reenable the adaptor but I think the reinstall or the SP2 killed my sound.
Is there a way to reenable VGA adaptor from the command prompt in recovery mode?
I recently ran my windows update and downloaded all necisary files but when I finally got to actually getting SP2 an so on . For some reason the firewall for it won't turn on and I've done what's told me to do but nothing I can't get it up and going
View 3 Replies View RelatedOnce again the computer impaired one comes to the table of knowledge.I shut down my PC, fans stop, lights go out. About 6-8 mins later it starts up again, been doing this for four days now. I ran a virus scan which came out clean. The only way to keep it turned off is to unplug it. The only tinkering I've done lately is to try to open a port on my router which I didn't get done, forgot password and reset button doesn't work. I don't think my PC is set to hibernate, I have never used that feature.

Then I hit the one on the computer about 10 times as well. This is getting annoying and its really agitating when you think you've turned it off and when you come back its on.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy problem with this computer is that every time the computer is turn on it freezes at any time... but then i turn it off and back on and i hit Delete and load the Fail-Safe Mode bios and save it then restart the computer it works fine... but then i cant turn off the computer because it would freeze... I have all software and bios with the latest updates but still i get the problem i have restart Windows Xp and still have the problem... View 14 Replies View RelatedWhen SP3 first came out, I jumped at the opportunity to update my perfectly running smooth computer with SP3 for windows. As soon as I did install SP3, nothing seemed to work correctly anymore and I had to end up reformatting my computer. It destroyed my perfectly good up to date computer. Yes I have a genuine copy of Windows XP if that's what you were about to say. So my question is, did anyone else every have a problem with SP3, are their known issues, and should I risk installing it again? I have always believed in if its not broke, then dont fix it. Well, sometimes my high hopes and curiosity of updating will improve performance from what it already is, gets me in trouble sometimes. Let me know guys. I will hold off for a bit.

Whenever I plug into a LCD projector and activate my external monitor the
dual monitor feature comes on and I cannot disable it.
Some times I want to run dual monitor with the laptop (such as for
lectures), however, sometimes I want what appears on the laptop screen to be
the same as on the projected image.
I have tried going into the Display Properties and Settings to disable the
second monitor and when I do all that happens is that I go back to only
seeing my laptop's monitor and nothing on the projector. When I activate
the external monitor the dual monitor feature kicks on again.
It never used to do this and I am not sure what changed on my system.

View 4 Replies View RelatedPc had win98 installed. With the pc came a support cd for my ASRock mobo. I installed the cd and installed 4 in 1 drivers, no problem. However it wrote over my existing drivers for my modem and graphic card. I read the manual and it read that this mobo was designed specifically for XP. So I formatted my hard drive and installed XP pro, without a hitch. However it did not detect my modem.
It detect everythig else There wasn't a list to chose from. I went to a web site and d/loaded proper driver from the info off my modem. The problem was I couldn't load to floppy cause the file was 2.44 mbs. So here's where the stupid in me comes to play. I removed the hard drive from my old pc and installed to my new one, but of course it did not boot, no screen, nadda. I reversed my screw up, and my pc still does not boot
whenever i Hibernate My System and then Turn it BACK ON, IT HALTS AFTER COMPLETING THE LOADING OF "RESUMING WINDOWS", Then Nothing Happens. This sucking problem was with my AthlonXP-2400+, with totally different components(but the running Programs are same --- My Friend has the SAME SYSTEM AND SAME RUNNING PROGRAMS like I DO,They have no problem). View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a older Imb laptop modle T23 computer and when I shut it down rather then using standby it takes several times trying to get it to come back on. I press the little round on/off button and the (z) button lights up and I hear the fan turn on and all of a sudden a series of beeps, and the screen won't turn on. The beeping is like 8 beeps, then stops but still nothing come up on the screen. Completely black! So i turn off the computer again, and turn on same thing. I continue doing this like 30+ times sometimes more sometimes less, then finally the beeps dont start and the screen is working. So needless to say its still working in the mean time, but its just such a pain if I shut it down. . For now I am just going to continue using standby but when I have updates sometimes i need to shut down.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've never had any problems with my computer in the past, I look after it as well as I know how but have recently been having problems with The Sims 3 (a lot of people are having issues with it). My problems related only to the game play and I had them sorted out and fixed finally. I played today when it crashed on me. After about an hour of waiting I still could do nothing to get the crashed game off. I had tried all the key commands I know, including the obvious ctrl + alt + del but still it was going nowhere so I switched my computer off at the tower. I know, stupid, but I could see the waiting game was getting me nowhere.
Anyway, now whenever I turn the computer on, it does the initial load, then it takes me to that black screen asking if I want to run it in safe mode or start it as usual and after that screen, it starts to load up windows but stops and takes me to a blue screen. This is the message on the blue screen - A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.....
